Yes, all the time, but probably for different reasons than you think.For me, as an orchestral musician, I expect the conductor to be a facilitator, someone I trust to help guide the performance by what the orchestra sounds like from the podium.There are three main criteria that I use to evaluate conductors personally, but they are general enough that they probably work in any situation:Is this person prepared (does the conductor know the piece well enough to make informed decisions about how it should sound)?Is this person clear (does the conductor give instruction in a clear, coordinated manner)?Is this person respectful (does the conductor ask for things in a reasonable way, deal with difficult situations gracefully, and all around just have good rapport with the group)?Many people expect the conductor to be a leader or someone who shows the orchestra where to play. These conductors are usually not successful from the standpoint of criterion three. Successful conductors tend to be flexible enough to collaborate instead of dictate (in other words, the musicians with the instruments know what they are doing to a vastly large extent).Conductors who are overly flashy or emotional on the podium may fill criteria one and three, but usually are unclear enough as to be unreliable. Unless the style is backed up with an incredible amount of substance, they tend to also run afoul of criterion three.The last thing to mention is that these judgements are highly subjective and differ from musician to musician, often depending on what part the person is playing and what instrument, etc etc ad nausem.Anyway, that’s the way that I compare the good ones from the bad.

Only as a composer or conductor does this matter at all, and then only very slightly. As an instrumentalist or singer, they truly will not care an iota about your past accomplishments, because they’ll have the benefit of a traditional audition to evaluate your skills.Put another way: these people are faculty at the most prestigious music schools in the world. Most of them play in world-class orchestras or have had major careers as soloists. It would be pretty disconcerting if they gave a damn whether you were chosen for All State Orchestra by some high school teachers, no?

When i was in XIIth, i always used to ponder upon how come those seniors who were getting a meager 70% in Pre-boards are getting above 90% so easily in finals.I always thought that the difficulty level of the Pre-boards must be very high compared to the CBSE papers.Then, came the dreaded boards. Teachers have been continuously warning us to improve our answer writing manner otherwise we may suffer a lot in boards; as we were all to busy in doing rough calculations as concise as possible for JEE preparation.I thought that the best way to improve is to check how the previous year toppers have written in exams. so i stumbled upon this authentic link from where you can see answer sheets of those who scored 100% in respective subjects.When going through Physics answer sheet of someone who has scored 100%(70 marks) in it, i found a completely wrong answer for 1 marks question.Ans: One ampere is that amount of current which when through a 1m long conductor placed at a distance of 1 m from a conductor carrying the same amount of current in same direction attracts it with a force equal to [math]10^{-7}[/math] N.According to Wiki: Ampere - WikipediaThe ampere is that constant current which, if maintained in two straight parallel conductors of infinite length, of negligible circular cross-section, and placed one meter apart in vacuum, would produce between these conductors a force equal to 2×10−7 newtons per meter of length.The examiner has put 3 tick marks on this answer. The calculation Part shown is also wrong as the formula for force should be :[math]\frac{\mu }{2\pi }\frac{I_{1}I_{2}}{r^{2}}l.[/math]After committing such a blunder he was awarded full marks.That guy basically changed the fundamental definition of one amperes.Although it is just a matter of 1 marks, but still giving someone 100% in XII standard Exam means something and teachers should religiously check the paper of at least those whom they are awarding full marks.That day i realized why everyone scored above 90% in cbse boards :), and due to this did not care to prepare for boards seriously and ended up scoring a meager 91% :(:(!!.So, don’t worry you will definitely get at least 2% above what you are prudentially expecting!!!But, again i would really be happy if such negligence is avoided by CBSE in coming years as it mocks those who work hard for getting good grades.P.S- http://cbse.nic.in/curric~1/modal2014/Class%20XII/Physics.pdfThis is the link for that said answer sheet, guarantying the authenticity of my claims.
