The Chevy Suburban was introduced in 1935 but was aimed at the commercial and government markets. Very few private citizens bought them. If you wanted something with more then six seats or bring home big packages you bought a station wagon. All the comfort of your sedan with an extra row of seats. The station wagon was king of the suburbs until the 80’s.Regarding the cops anger it was because many truck owners would skip on safety issues. NJ inspections had headlight aiming test, a brake check on a skid pad, exhaust inspection, lights and horn checks, and tire inspections. This is back in the days when you could buy a recapped tire, that was unsafe at any speed. Inspections saved lives. Inspections are free at state operated stations. Here is a NJ inspection. Common? Not exactly but a lot of DMV, actually MVC here in NJ, staffers get stressed at their jobs since they have to deal with throngs of less than happy people that sometimes take their ire out on said employees. If you have a bad experience, take it up with their supervisor(s) and/or find the website for your state’s motor vehicle department and find the contact address(es) and use them.

Basically a piece of First Class or better Mail not over a few moths old with you Name and NJ address printed on it. Even a letter from good old mom mailed to you will work. I was helping a friend of mine get his Colorado ID and we went through this. Believe it or not one clerk said a letter from Social Security did not count! We went to a different office and it was accepted. If you do not have any thing that is printed you can go to the NJ web site and apply for any social program and use the letter of rejection as proof of address. That will take about 2 weeks to get in the mail. Also if your Vehicle(s) registered in NJ the registration will work
