Crappie Outline: Fill & Download for Free

I've had such an idea. A sci-fi YA about an American civil war somewhere in the future. I called a friend, who would make a good (but somewhat not experienced) writer and so we began writing.First had a crappy outline.But it was an outline.And we work on this piece for… one year? Two drafts later we realized there was no way to make it interesting/well written. There was too much information to handle with, and as two young writers we had no chance of pulling this off.So he quit, I quit.Three-four years later: my friend has gave up writing completely, but I, in the other hand, started working more seriously. Grandiose outlines, character exploration, self resolution after each chapter and yet another outline for the next chapter, and most importantly— IDEAS I COULD HANDLE.If I'm better at writing in third POV limited I will write about one character, and probably will create a smaller, realistic setting rather than a grand sci-fi YA novel idea that features two character that talk separately from first person POV.Is an idea big enough to become a novel? Maybe. If it's too big for you. If you make it hard for yourself to write it because of poor planning, bad setting, wrong POV, lack of writing experience.All of these should be enough for you to make a descision.Do you want to make endless drafts and rewrites to make the most out of what you have?OrLeave this idea in the drawer for now and come back to it with fresh mind, more writing experiences, better outlook on what made it “bad writing” as you called it?It's up to you. This one has multidimensional aspects.This is how a typical TV series (the popular saas bahu ones) run:Ingredients:The most ‘Sanskari' and at the same time most ‘vulnerable’ to all possible tortures in the family female protagonist.Take a silent partner to him. This male protagonist speaks up once in the entire episode. Lucky, if he gets more dialogues. Most of them being ‘Mama's boys'A wicked and evil minded character, and you can fit as many people to play this role from ‘mother-in-laws' to ‘ex-partners' who have nothing else but to practice monologues after decorating themselves with kilograms of cosmetic stuff.One Son. One daugter too. Wait one more. Wait one estranged one too. And some few adopted ones too.Important: Age Filter: Turn Off. Nobody grows old.Preparation:Start with any random theme. Name it as title to your story. You have to start with this theme. Stick on it atleast for 15–20 days.Put torture, exploitation, overly flooded drama, volume of tears exceeding the water in the entire Indian oceanOkay, TRPs dipped this week. Add some more unjust drama. A murder. Kill the male protagonist. Re-enter old people. Resurrect some people. Kill some more.The series has more police and court cases pending than any other city put together.You get the idea how it flows right?What's wrong?Unrealistic: I can tolerate one murder and one ‘tantrik baba', but now you're overdoing it. There's excess of everything. People get born ’n' number of times, somebody turns into a fly, animals start living in your home, everyone has a ‘Judwa'(duplicate) brother/sister in some corner who coincidentally reunites after decades.No Content: The shows starts with one objective and ends up with even crappy outline. Infact, there's even worse thing than that. Series will run infinitely unless the Tv channel pushes them out due to negligible TRPs or unless they run out of budget. How long can you take the same thing on and on for years?Audience Acceptance: They run because we accept. We feel so touched seeing the same emotional torture again and again. I don't know if it works as soul satisfaction for some people, but as if everyday stress in our lives wasn't less, that we audiences want to absorb more badly scripted nonsense.Well, as long as masses enjoy the ‘masala' series, Indian TVs will continue to broadcast them. Few shows still strive to make themselves stand apart from the crowd, but if generalised, it all sucks.

The state of the healthcare system and how nobody is willing to give up their entitlements to fix it. America has some of the most expensive healthcare in the world...many citizens spend more on crappy health insurance than they do on their housing. Yet it ranks very low on the list of developed countries for quality of care. It's so bad the life expectancy is decreasing. The whole system is so broken and corrupt that it is, in any practical sense, impossible to fix. The ACA (obamacare) just doubled down on the beurocracy and corruption and costs. I could outline a relatively simple plan of about 8 steps that would fix it. But any of those 8 steps would be politically impossible to legislate. It is cheaper and I get better care by flying to Mexico to see a doctor.
