How can we determine that is it worth it to engage with the influencers to promote our product or not, and how could we "price" them?

To know whether an Influencer is worth it AND how much they’re worth, you first have to know who you’re trying to target.Additional Resource: Here’s an entire article about Influencer pricing.Simply because the audience you want to talk to determines how much an influencer is going to cost and gives you a frame of reference for performance history. Consider the following qualifiers:Community size. The bigger the Influencer, the bigger the price tag. Influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers are basically PR professionals: expect $800 per post on average. The reach is tempting but the question you should be asking though, is this influencer appropriate for my product?Performance history. Likewise maybe an Influencer has a huge following but are those followers really engaging with the content? When it comes to performance, maybe micro-influencers are your best bet.Country/Language. For example, an Influencer with 2M followers who lives in India will be useless to you if you’re trying to sell an app designed for mothers who speak German. Some countries run much higher pricing than others.Any other type of targeting that would drastically reduce the number of influencers available to reach your target. LinkedIn Influencers are going to cost more than Twitter. What platform is your audience on? What niche do you represent? So that’s the methodology behind determining Influencer pricing and performance. How it’s actually accomplished depends on the tools you have at your disposition. One way to do it is with technology (disclaimer this is how we do it at my company, Upfluence. The examples provided are taken from our software.)Identifying the right influencers for your industryThe software locates influencers in just a few clicks. Customize your search with 20+ criteria such as keywords, follower count, engagement level, geolocation, language, and social platform.Instantly compare performance historiesInstant access to influencer performance history and stats along with list-building permits easy comparative analysis.Contact at scale and get the right priceIntegrated emailing with helpful templates, internal notes, real-time open rates, and the capacity to scale allows more flexibility so you can try multiple approaches or different value proposals with hundreds of influencers in minutes. Scaling = ability to negotiate more contracts and find the price that fits your budget.Takeaway:When it comes to Influencers, the price and performance needs to be judged in the context of your campaign. Identifying relevant influencers, comparing their performance, and negotiating prices is easier with tools. If you want to share product details in another question, maybe I can be of more help!Best,Vivien

I want to build a large addition to my house in Toronto. Which local architectural firm should I go to?

My house is in the Etobicoke area and just a few months ago we added a custom 2nd floor addition. We shopped around for contractors and architects, but found the only one that we really clicked with - Well Built House.Perhaps my favorite part in the entire process was how they really did their best in customizing the addition for us, as opposed to the other firms we checked out that preferred to build out of a template and presented us with a portfolio of options. Instead of doing that, the team at Well Built started by getting to know what we really wanted - from the functional features to the details of the design we wanted our home addition to have (it was a 2nd floor loft). Based on our meetings, they came up with a conceptual design of sorts, and when we approved, that’s when they started all the details in the floor, structural plans etc.Our neighborhood is a bit tricky on the outdated zoning laws, but Well Built offered really a complete package. They processed all the building permits and even applied for minor variances/exemptions to the City of Toronto so that the outdated zoning requirements wouldn’t get in the way of the modern and super functional design we wanted and needed. I’ve heard horror stories of homeowners like myself setting out on the building permit application process on their own, but luckily we were saved from all that by Well Built’s expert and experienced handling of building permits. We just ‘debuted’ the loft to a few family and friends and everyone really loved it. Oh if we could just tear down the rest of the house and pattern everything according to the addition, which has all the features my wife and I have always dreamed of, we definitely would!I suggest going to their website and reading about their unique process, as well as going over their past projects. http://www.wellbuilthouse.ca/Hope this helps, and happy dream house/addition building!

What cloud management software are people using today? What are their common uses?

At BuildFax, we have used RightScale since August of 2009, and have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars because of this selection.BuildFax is the only company that has managed to aggregate a national database of building permits. (This is much harder than aggregating tax assessor data--which is the standard public property data that is sold today--because there are only around 3200 tax assessors, but more than 19,000 building departments). We created our own internal processing pipeline that takes whatever data we receive (whether in PDF, Oracle backup, Excel, etc format), and goes through a series of automated and semi-automated processes to send it into our production database, where we deliver reports to customers via a web site and/or web services. We manage both public clouds (currently Amazon and Rackspace Cloud) and a private cloud (XenServers + Cloudstack running on servers in our office) through RightScale's ServerTemplates and RightScripts. We run our processing pipeline mainly on our private cloud (because it's cheaper), with overflow processes running on Amazon (more on this later), while running our production/customer-facing servers on public clouds, spread across service provides and regions.RightScale is a critical part of our infrastructure because it enables us to treat our servers as software. (I wrote an article about this topic for ReadWriteWeb; check it out here: http://www.readwriteweb.com/cloud/2011/03/the-advantage-of-cloud-infrastructure-servers-are-software.php). We define our servers, system software, code checkout, and all configuration and initialization in RightScripts, so that doing any kind of server maintenance (rebooting, relaunching, resizing, scaling, moving, upgrading, load testing) is trivial: just clone the template, change the necessary parameters and/or scripts, and click a button to launch the server. We do a lot of spin-a-server-up-for-a-single-function, like converting file formats or converting database layouts or using Hadoop to do address correction. In these cases, our control system will launch instances in our private cloud--if there's availability. If there isn't, it automatically launches instances in the public cloud. This way, no process waits for anything. And the best part about RightScale is that the ServerTemplates, combined with the flexibility to launch them on public or private clouds, AND combined with the RightScale API, means that we use the exact same code to launch the server, whereever it needs to be launched. And we don't need separate configurations for the servers, whether they're run on Amazon, Rackspace, or in our own private cloud; RightScale has already taken care of that for us with its multi-cloud images and entire setup. I'm not aware of any other platform that has anything remotely approaching how easy it is to do this type of multi-cloud deployment with so little work on our part.RightScale also has great predefined database templates and monitoring profiles, so that setting up a MySQL master-slave replication across regions (or even across cloud providers) with automated backups, one-click restores, multi-EBS-volume-RAID-0-arrays (a must for performance), and a complete monitoring setup takes all of one minute to set up. (We're in year two of our RightScale master-slave setup, and we were not affected by the April 2011 AWS outage as a result).RightScale's auto-scaling is great, but auto-scaling is pretty easy to implement, and Amazon's auto-scaling is fine as well. The real issue with "auto-scaling" is what you do with your database servers, not application servers. And last--but certainly not least--RightScale's multi-cloud images combined with their ServerTemplates and RightScripts make moving from public cloud to private cloud (or public cloud to public cloud) trivially easy. The fact that they roll them and certify them means that doing something like upgrading from Ubuntu 9 to Ubuntu 10 (which we did last year across 25 different ServerTemplates and multiple public clouds) was as simple as changing a parameter in each template.A few words about the other providers mentioned in this question:enStratus: When I last looked at enStratus, they had nothing with similar functionality to ServerTemplates and RightScripts in RightScale, which saves us at least 3 FTEs. Server software installation/configuration/etc just doesn't seem to bepart of the enStratus focus, but for us, it's such a huge part of the costsavings. If the expected practice is that someone's going to set up aserver make an EBS snapshot of what the server should be at startup, that's not customizable/flexible enough for us... and if the expectationis that the responsibility for that level of configuration needs to behandled by Puppet or Chef, well, we find that the way RightScale has setthings up is easier and frankly more flexible.Kaavo: I have only browsed the Kaavo site, but after watching a number of videos and reading through the site, Kaavo looks like an earlier version of RightScale.Scalr: Scalr strikes me as a service that's trying to deliver the same functionality as RightScale, but with less knowledge required up front. We have the knowledge, and I'm a bit skeptical about whether Scalr really can make things easier (this page gives me a lot of pause: http://scalr.net/tour/config-templates/ - I feel much more comfortable attaching actual configuration files to RightScripts).
