Assuming you meet all the requirements for a waiver, the best way to get a recruiter to request a waiver is to do as much of the work for them as possible. Time is valuable, don't take up more than necessary. The process varies but the following should cover all the steps you might be able to do on your own.At the beginning of the month, go to the recruiter's office and, this is crucial, bring at least two qualified people with you who want to enlist right away, don't have any medical or legal problems and can meet the physical fitness standards. You want to hand them their monthly quota and free up their time for the rest of the month.Ask your recruiter for a DD-369 Police Record Check form and fill it out for them. If your case occurred outside the local area, contact both the courts and the police station and find out who would be able to sign off on the DD-369 and if they're willing to do it over fax/email. If possible, have the completed form and your records sent directly to the recruiter. Do not try to hand carry them, it's a matter of authenticity and chain of custody. You want to save the recruiter an hour on the phone and possibly a trip to the court house, especially if it's far away. While you're at it, ask for an SF-86 and get started on filling that out.Be physically fit and not have any medical issues. If you can't meet the physical fitness standards for the branch, don't bother going to the recruiter until you can. If you require medical waivers, it better be for something minor. You will have to list the felony on the medical screening questionnaire and it will require review by MEPS personnel. They may or may not want to see your legal documents. The more waivers you require, the more work you will generate. This is counter to your interests.Ask the recruiter what statements you need to write for the waiver request and the format it needs to be in. This will depend on the branch and the recruiting station. Get someone who writes well to go over your statement and make sure you have proper spelling and grammar. Lay out the facts of the case and leave any emotions, opinions or other editorializing out. Include any subsequent community service or other things you've done to show that you have learned the errors of your previous ways and are now a contributing member of society. Have supporting documentation. You won't be able to save much time here because you would have to write a statement any way you go about this but this shows you're willing to take initiative.The waiver process is long and people in it are low on the list of prioritie, especially for something this big. You'll need to maintain your interest and not expect much attention from the recruiter while you're waiting. You also have to do all of this using the correct forms and formats the first time or the waiver will be rejected. If all of this sounds like too much work, now you know why no one wants to request a waiver for you. On top of that, even if you were able to bring in qualified recruits, the recruiter still has to worry about next month's quota.Remember, there is no guarantee you'll find a recruiter willing to work with you and no guarantee you'll be granted a waiver even if you do.
