What will be the consequences of Trump's tariffs?Oh boy, if it’s not so comical I’d be really totally floored! But I think I’ve finally figured out President Trump’s game now.He yells “China Threat” and gave Malaysia, South Korea, and Vietnam a big whack with his tariff on solar cells. U.S. solar panel import tariff to hit European, Asian manufacturersThen he yells “China Threat” and gave Canada, Brazil, South Korea, and Mexico a big whack with his tariff on steel.Then he yells “China Threat” and gave Canada an extra big whack for the Aluminum import.I mean, you can’t even make this sh*t up! Trump’s surprise tariffs horrified markets, Republicans, and America’s closest allyConstruction industry uses the most steel and aluminum, followed by automobile. President Trump’s wall will really cost an arm and a leg now, and goodbye Tesla plants.

What if I said construction is the 2nd largest economic activity in the country next to agriculture?Around 25% of nation’s working population depends on construction and its allied activities for their livelihood. (I am one of them :D )Just imagine the investments made in construction industry which is very much required for economic development of our nation. These investments increase opportunities.When opportunities increase, GDP of the nation automatically increases. (GDP is the measure of country’s economy)The infrastructure required by any industry is provided by construction industry. So, construction industry is an evergreen industry which helps in developing our nation.The main thing to be noticed here is: THE OUTPUT FROM CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY BECOMES AN ASSET OF THE NATIONBeing a civil engineer, I feel very happy writing this answer.There should be many more opportunities in Construction field so that many families in our country get benefited and there will be economic growth in our country.

The biggest problem Architect & Construction Industry facing now is the Real Estate Slowdown. The Construction Industry is the main victim. It started around 2010 itself and slowed down further in 2013 and from 2016 onward, the situation is very bad. This not only affects Architects but also allied industries like Sanitary and Electrical and even interior people also. Unfortunately nothing has been done to revive till now. If this trend continues it will reflect in other industries also.There are other problems which are unique to Architect and Construction industry is :Absence of a Single window system in clearing projects.Unprofessional in working. Without an Architect or an Engineer you can construct a building.Lack of monitoring of quality. The multi storeyed Building collapse in Chennai is completely forgotten and no lesson is learnt.Anybody can become a Real Estate Agent. And unfortunately they play a big role in manipulation of land prices.Interference of local Authorities.Still now we are using Bricks only for walls in most of medium sized projects, there are so many options available but not widely used.River sand which is used in Construction Industry is facing a huge crisis. No streamlining of usage of river sand.Bargaining in fees. I think people don’t bargain with doctors for fees- they are the only exception as our life is involved in that. But a Bad design or construction can also kill people, so awareness to Settle for Quality not cost should come.Of course to insists quality institutions like CREDAI are there but small sized projects do not come under any quality checking.Faculties are not meeting the standards in many colleges, so the students coming out lack knowledge and become incompetent to handle projectsThe Universities and colleges never work in Tandem with Construction Industry. so Industrial standards are totally different from book knowledge.You can get Electrical connection in some states without approval of Building. You need patta from revenue department for approval. One government dept. don’t care about approval, the other department asks for approval and all these are government departments and there is no co-ordination between them.Some body has to explain the magic of Cement Pricing. The cartel system works in fovour of Cement industry not construction industry.The RRB (New Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill passed by Parliament) has so many clauses which may slow growth of small scale construction Industry.Lot of Talented Indian Architects are available and we are opening more are more colleges. But very important and challenging Architectural Projects in India are handled by German and British Architects, who have little knowledge about Indian Heritage and Culture. If the country is not using our own talent, then where can they get Challenging projects ? OUR MISSILE TECHNOLOGY IS INDIGENOUS - and we achieved it with the help of great people like Dr. Kalam. So there should be checks and balances in construction Industry in India to grow.These are the points i know may be much more. Thanks for reading !
