I'm currently a concept art student at an art university. You're inability to go to college won't hinder you much. After all a lot of artists break into the field having never went to college at all. Before you start there are certain disadvantages you need to be aware of. Outside of school you won't have a teacher and you won't have as easy of an access to professional critique. However there are ways around that. There are websites like http://www.conceptart.org/go/artist/, an art forum website, where you can get critiques. As for teachers, I would try to find some online workshops or some higher end art classes in your area. Its important to have a professional look over your work and give you feedback.All that considered the best place to start is by drawing still lifes. Lots and lots of still lifes. It sounds boring but its important. By drawing objects from observation (aka a set up right in front of you instead of from a picture) it will help you learn how to draw what you see and train your eye in form and value. Do hundreds of studies of those. Practice accuracy, rendering, light and shadow, and composition. When you feel comfortable there, move on to figure drawing (which is much harder). The best way to learn figure drawing it to go to an actual class and draw figures from life. There is no replacement for live study in this area. After figure drawing comes perspective drawing and after perspective comes design. Do hundreds to thousands of drawings in each subject in order to become strong. After still lifes you can technically do figure drawing and perspective in any order you want but make sure that design comes after that. You will not be able to design well if you are not strong in your foundations.Other than drawing, you have to worry about digital painting (or whatever medium you'll be able to design/illustrate the fastest and most comfortably in). If your aim is digital painting, http://www.ctrlpaint.com is a good place to start. He even has exercises to help improve your drawing as well as basic overviews about the topics I covered earlier. However he is not the ultimate means to an end in digital painting. Once you've gone through his stuff continue to practice and seek out other more intermediate sources to learn digital painting (if that is what you choose). The best way to improve is to practice alot.Ultimately your journey will probably take you years to complete. Practice and repetition will ultimately make you strong and give you experience. Outside feedback will help you improve in places you are unaware of.I know this response is a little general but there is no better way to become a concept artist other than becoming excellent in drawing and design. A key thing you should be aware of though is that design is king in the concept world. Your concept drawings should be clear and foundationaly accurate but, your designs should be what shines in your pieces. I have seen plenty of amazingly beautiful concept art pieces that were so focused on the aesthetic beauty of the illustration that they lost their focus on the design in the process.So remember, find teachers and mentors, find an art community for feedback and draw/practice like hell. Recently a good colleague, JS developer, recommended the book Javascript and jQuery which I found easy to follow and in turn recommend it to you, if you don´t have the chance to do that part time course.I really enjoy attending these 10 week part time courses. This is a really good introduction to User Testing, which is one of the main parts of User Research.The Lean Product Playbook: How to Innovate with Minimum Viable Products and Rapid Customer Feedback. If the Leans Startup book explains what and why, the Lean Product Playbook explains how – and you have to know how.Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products is a great book for those PMs who deal with mobile consumer applications. It explains how to build state of the art habit forming products.Agile Product Management with Scrum: Creating Products That Customers Love. This book is a good guide for all those PMs dealing with a Scrum team.Lean B2B: Build Products Businesses Want. This book is the Lean Startup equivalent for B2B products.
