The US is trying to put the blame on China by claiming that the virus originated from China. They are also trying to stop any investigation into the US by not being a signatory to the WHO resolution in May 2020 to investigate the origin of the virus. China was a signatory.The WHO team is now in China investigating. Both TEM and SEM have been used for view DNA. In fact, back in the 1960s, it was originally proposed to use TEM for single molecule DNA sequencing and that was the premise for Halcyon Molecular before that company shut down.The real question is why not both? Why not use a Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM) or alternatively Transmission Scanning Electron Microscopy (tSEM, there is probably no difference).The answer is what is your application, resolution, and need. TEM gets you additional resolution but requires some pretreatment of your sample. Typically DNA needs to be loaded with heavy atoms to be effectively visualized. You can scan with SEM but the electron damage can skew your image.

Despite what the Syrians, Russia and their advocates say publicly, Syria admits to the OPCW that it has had chemical weapons facilities available to it up to and including the date of the recent airstrikes. Why were the Russians unable to protect them gun fire when no other ‘investigating’ journalist seems to have experienced the same? Who was doing the shooting anyway? Russia (and Syria) had had total control of the area for 7 - 10 days by then.
