You can confidently say, Ms. Renuka Chowdhary is confined to the pages of political history. She no longer has political steam, lost along with her party the Congress.She is originally from Andhra Pradesh (Visakhapatnam) but her last stint was as Rajya Sabha MP from Khamman (Telangana). Since the Congress is in death throes in that state too, she perhaps thought it prudent to exit the stage.As such, KCR never found any usefulness in her like charisma or charm or voter base and also having no relevance to the new state’s land & politics.She is active on social media though, more like “I am alive” signal than anything else.In my view, she was/is more famous for her “freedom” of speech in her sing-song voice, than for the content in her speech (read on).In American parlance, she can be called a “smooth operator who knew her way around”. And she managed to obtain an array of positions courtesy the party she then happened to be in. Was a member of the Rajya Sabha for two consecutive terms and Chief Whip of Telugu Desam Parliamentary party from 1986 to 1998. Was also the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare from 1997 to 1998 in the cabinet of H. D. Deve Gowda.Left Telugu Desam Party to join Congress party in 1998. In 1999 and 2004, she was elected to the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha respectively representing Khammam.In May 2004 she became the Minister of State for Tourism in the UPA I government. She was the Union minister of State for Ministry of Women and Child Development in the UPA I government from January 2006 to May 2009.In the May 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Renuka Chowdary was defeated by Nama Nageswara Rao of TDP from Khammam by 1,24,448 votes.The Mumbai newspaper, Mid Day, reported in 2009 that, in response to "Sri Ram Sena's Valentine's Day threat" Chowdary said that youth should "swarm" pubs and make a point to the "moral police brigade".After the 2009 Mangalore pub attack by the Sri Ram Sena, Chouwdary commented that Mangalore had been "talibanized". He said, the then Home Minister L K Advani had in 1998 suggested an all-purpose national ID in Rajya Sabha. [I verified this statement, it is true].Hearing this, Chowdhury had burst into a loud laughter. Then, the RS Chairman M Venkaih Naidu chided her for her "unbecoming" (sic) behavior.Modi then interjected - "Sabhapati ji meri aapse vinti hai Renuka ji ko kuch mat kahiye. Ramayan serial ke baad aisi hansi sunne ka saubhagya aaj jaake mila hai." (Translation: “Sire, I request you not to reprimand her. After the Ramayan serial [telecast very long ago], we have got the good occasion to hear such laughter once again”)The story did not end there. Renuka then retorted, Modi’s remark denigrated the status of a woman.She said to the ANI (a news agency) - “He passed a personal comment against me. Denigrating a status of a woman is a crime.”It is now established beyond doubt that BJP is against women. How can a Prime Minister speak like this? This shows his culture. I can't go to that extent”.Her logic was funny - say, Modi “denigrated” her.
