Financial Aid?What is that?I am a proud member of the MIT class of 1973.Tuition for my Complete freshman year was $2,150.I made over $2,300 the previous 18 months working part time at McDonalds and was able to pay for my first year, myself…….It was easy for my parents (typical middle class) to assist me.I graduated with No debt and no financial aid.Easy.So,minimum wage went from roughly $1.25 the Summer before I started MIT and has just reached $11 per hour this year, a factor of nine. Whereas the Tuition for one year has gone from $2,150 to $48,000…… a factor of 22……And of course the endowment has increased from Less than one year of operating expenses to over Five times annual operating expenses……….And we wonder who is to blame for student debt……………….
