Living in NYC, there are always people who want to stay over because of hotel rates here. Which is fine as long as they understand that I am not running a hotel.Examples:Cupboard space is rare in NY apartments. If I give you water in a mug, please just accept it. I probably have very few water glasses and they are all in the sink.Same for towels. I don’t use face towels. I don’t have any. Please don’t explain to me why you need one after I handed you a clean bath towel. If you need a face towel every night, you should have brought your own.I work. Please just accept toast and an egg in the morning. No, I cannot cook a hot breakfast for you every day of your stay. Yes, I realize I am Asian, but I don’t always have rice ready to eat as you so desire. And if I say I don’t have it to any other Asian ingredient, please don’t explain to me what the ingredient is. And if this line of requests gets any more annoying, I will not cook the usual hot breakfast on weekend mornings that I usually offer to guests.Coffee- if you require 100 percent fresh coffee, I can provide directions to the nearest Starbucks. Or you can make your own. Your other option is to accept the coffee I made half an hour ago.My internet connection is not the greatest. Again, I will provide directions to the nearest Starbucks, but please don’t complain every single day as a middle aged adult.I clean the whole apartment before any guest arrives. If you take it upon yourself to clean parts of the house you deem unacceptable, that’s on you. However, please do not point out to me you cleaned the bathroom every single day you visit.Again I work. If you choose to arrive earlier than six, I cannot drop my job to meet you somewhere. Either you can come to my office and I will give you my house keys and directions to the apartment, or you can entertain yourself for the day until it is six. And never say my job isn’t that important and therefore I should just meet you to take you to the apartment.Do not walk around my apartment half-naked. I can’t even believe this has to be said. I can understand if you are going the ten steps from the bathroom to the bedroom, although even then…don’t people have robes anymore? But do not walk around my living room without a shirt on.
