I’m answering for Finkshui’s sake about people’s names because In a name is our wealth, shame and blame.Between the first and last letter of a name are more letters.Between the ears of the name holder is an understanding like it or not that their name belongs to them.Between naming and dying there’s time to grow into and out of our names.When we aren’t comfortable in our own skins we moan, scratch and wince.Here’s a friend’s name who changed it from something like Richard to;Ramjamfunkyboogaloo Smythe.Ramjam a cool skater fencer dood who invented the foam sabre.What is a name by any other measure, definitions. The equestrian world relies on hardwork and volunteers. If you keep showing up , pitching-in ,and are sensible - then you’ll be welcome in the horse world. There are volunteer opportunities in many disciplines. In eventing, they always need cross country jump judges. It’s quite easy, just a score sheet that says if the horse took the fence, refused the fence (main qualification is eyesight, and reliability). Dressage shows always need scribes, and score sheet runners. You might have to study a week or so to be a scribe, and have quick writing skills. In show jumping, they always need a jump crew. If you practice and can braid well, then you can get $20–$50 in less than an hour. But you need to be organized, and get the horse braided in time for it’s class (plus warm-up) - else it’s a disaster.If you get to know folks, and are very reliable then you could be a groom at local shows.Half / partial leasing is a good option to reduce costs. Also, competition horses sometimes get easy hacking-out (trail ride) days maybe once / week. As long as the rider just walks or does easy riding, then their training won’t suffer. That may be a partial lease, or again if you’re very reliable then maybe no money changes hands. Armatures with a horse sometimes find it hard to get to the barn 4–5 days / wk, so having a reliable person 1 or 2 days a week can be welcome in the right circumstance. Maybe you just get permission to lunge the horse ( but study/ practice how to correctly lunge a horse) , maybe an easy ride. It can help keep the horse going for people with busy schedules. Or some barns have rescue horses, or otherwise pasture ornaments that might benefit from a human working with them. Depends on your equestrian abilities what might materialize for you. It all starts with you being a reliable person , that has common sense.Oh, and the obvious: stall cleaning barter for riding time. Would be hard to find a stable manager that wouldn’t go for that, once they got to know you.

Nothing weird about it. And guess what? I got to choose my name. How weird is that?Not weird for catholic children being confirmed who get to choose and add the name of a saint to their allready given names.Not weird also; I tried to get folks calling me Paul instead of Godfrey my given name; one I have grown to know, unnderstand and love. In light of and despite embarassment ensuing from such an odd posh name I loathed for its teasing an an inaability to roll my R’s like an Icelander can grr. Godfweee, Godderrs, Goddlles all made me reach for a blanket.Paul’s anecdote. I had three fights before conceeding or losing, if you will to Godfrey. A year before Godfrey chose Paul for confirmation naming I’d been chosen to represent our school to play/fight in matches with other school’s fencing teams. As usual the week following confrimation I was looking forward to a fencing match latter in the week.Training was on Tuesday, matches on Wednesdays, Saturday’s, Sundays was competitions, house and club matches.I decided to start calling myself Paul on the next fencing match’s score sheet. It was weird being called Paul I nearly had to forfeit one of the matches because I was late to the piste.If you like a name try it on, maybe others have given you nick names you like the sound of also try them out.
