This is important.I’ve several suggestions, perhaps there are several that might help you:Pay a friend in cash, to use their credit card for the purchase.Get your own separate bank account, and slowly collect money to make cash deposits in your own bank account. If your parents are not supportive, having control of your own money saved is a survival imperative.Get a PayPal account for future online purchases. They have extensive buyer protection for online purchases.Don’t use a Visa Debit card online. While Credit cards are safe, with bank guarantee, Debit cards are wide open to fraud (both online and point-of-sale) and you can lose your money.Locate a gender clinic, or perhaps several, and support groups. There may be a second hand binder someone can give you. You just got the new Super Nintendo, and you’re so excited to play. You plug it into your TV, pop the cartridge in, and boom, you’re gaming.Imagine that that’s you on the floor there. You’re having the time of your life, when all of a sudden, you get stuck on a level. Like, really stuck. You try and try and try, but there’s no way you’re finishing this level alone.What would you do?Back in those days, there was no way to find solutions online. I mean, there were Bulletin Board Systems, but video game specific BBSes were extremely rare; and even then, what kind of kid would be hanging out on bulletins?You might have been able to find answers in the Nintendo Power magazine, but what if your level hadn’t been covered yet? What would you do then?I’ll tell you what you’d do. You’d call the experts over at the Nintendo Power Line, who were blessed with one of the coolest job titles ever.Game Play CounselorAbove me is a 30-second clip of a 90s news reporter talking about Gameplay Counselors. She explains it pretty succinctly, but to put it in my own words, being a GPC was like being a gamer and a hotline worker, both at the same time.For sixteen hours a day, six days a week, stumped players would be urged to call the hotline and explain their problem to a Counselor, who would stay on the phone and walk them step-by-step through beating the level.There were only 50 GPCs working the hotlines in total, so recognising a specific GPC wouldn’t be unheard of for repeat callers. They also all had profiles of themselves in the Nintendo Power Magazine. To players struggling to get through games, these guys were like superheroes.Nintendo Game Play Counselors always had two things with them on the job. First was a console with them in their cubicle, although they didn’t actually boot up the games very often when helping customers.No, GPCs would instead spend most of their time consulting a set of several binders. Inside these binders were hundreds of pages of essential information for getting through levels.These binders had everything from article clippings and written notes to maps, illustrations and even hand-drawn sketches. Their work was extensive. A few years back, a few of the binders were listed for sale on eBay, with the following comments being made by the seller“These were the actual binders and resources game counselors used on the Nintendo Power line (206-885-7529), before they had access to computers and the Internet. This is volume letters G through K; the other binder I have is T through Z. There are at least 3-5 more in the set.”[1]Now, I’m not saying this job was a complete paradise, especially after reading some of the firsthand accounts of former Powerline workers. But I find it incredibly interesting to hear about how people got help for games back then.It’s even more interesting knowing that the Nintendo Power Line actually ran all the way up until 2010. That means that even after the Internet became widespread, there was still demand for people wanting help beating their Nintendo games.When the Internet came along, it made a lot of jobs redundant. But you’re unlikely to hear Game Play Counselors mentioned in that discussion. We have done a few, but recently have come back to hello fresh.Value:First, if you compare cost to a home prep meal from the grocery store, hello fresh does not come out ahead. Where we find value is in having the alternative to eating out. We can spend a lot eating out and having 3 good meals ready to cook in our fridge helps curb that. Non- hf days are supplemented with normal grocery meals like burgers, hot dogs, or fend for yourself. Before, we would dine out 3x or more per week, which can cost 20–60 per meal depending on quality. As a result, we are saving about 100+ per week. Grocery shopping expense is also reduced as is food waste.Portions:We have a family consisting of two adults and an 8 year old. We find he likes to help and that translates to more adventure in his eating. We're get the 2 serving meals, which is enough to split without leftovers.Complexity:We like to cook and can follow recipes well. The work is easier with 2 people, but can be done with 1. If you normally make burgers and mac n cheese (nothing wrong there! ) or meals out of a box, this may be more than you want to do in the evening. Recipe cards are 8 steps with multiple actions per step described in a paragraph. With 2 people, dinner is ready in about 20–30 minutes.Waste:There is a fair amount of packaging waste, but not much more than your average take out or grocery venture. We reuse the ice packs in coolers until they get holes and recycle the rest.Taste:Despite frequently using similar ingredients (chives, sour cream, potatoes, and panko make many appearances) recipes are mostly unique and delicious and can exceed standards of a moderate restuarant (outback, carrabas). Since the portions are smaller the meals are generally healthier.Other:If you save the recipe cards, nothing stops you from saving them in a binder and reusing them with by **gasps** going to the grocery store.Also, when crafting your own recipes, you do get influenced by the hf process. Everything from how to season food to staggering tasks to ensure everything comes out at once.You also visualize your recipe in 8 steps on a recipe card.Finally, they run tons of sales. Try it out, eat, cancel, coupon, repeat.Happy eating!
