I was a young PFC with the US Army back in the early 80’s… we were in the barracks at Hohenfels, Germany right after coming out of the field. We were standing around talking for a few minutes when in walked SFC Wallace, our platoon sergeant. He asked in a loud voice if anyone had any hot sauce on them. Now back in those days they had just come out with the new MRE’s (blechhhh) and a lot of us carried hot sauce to give it some flavor. One of the SGT’s volunteered his bottle of tabasco sauce. I was expecting him to walk back to wherever his food was to season it when he… tilted the bottle back and just squirted a bunch of it in his mouth… said “ahhhhhhh…” when he was done, and handed the bottle back. Yes I was impressed.

The M60 has been in service for 1961 to present. It is a extremely old tank design by modern status.In fact, the U.S. No longer has any of them in active combat service.The last 18 M60A3s were maintained at the Combat Maneuver Training Center (CMTC) near Hohenfels, Germany. They were used in the OPFOR Surrogate role by Delta company 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment until 2005.The reason is that they were replaced by the M1 Abrams after the Gulf war. The M60's were even phased out of US service as a training aid in 2005.Except for a small number in active service, most M60s were placed in reserve, with a few being sold to US allies. They now just maintain them, start the engine and run them around a bit to make sure they still work. They also upgrade them into the M60A3 SLEP version.Very few U.S. Forces using M60s are sent to combat, they send M1s.

It’s a Virtuti Militari monument – which means “for military virtue”. In the center the Virtuti Militari order is engraved, Polish highest military decoration (established in 1792).Inscription below reads:Bogu duchaOjczyźnie życieStolicy krewWhich translates to:To God – spiritTo the country – lifeTo the capital – blood1 August 1944 – date inscribed on the left – is the day when the Warsaw Uprising began so this is what the whole monument refers to. This monument commemorates the lives given in the Warsaw Uprising and it was erected on 1 August 1946.I now noticed two letters, A and K, inscribed below the dates: that would be for Armia Krajowa, Home Army, Polish resistance movement from the WW2.
