PDF Editor FAQ
What was your worst neighbor experience?
I lived in a little private neighborhood. It would be called gated but there was no gate. Everything was fine. Then the house next to me was sold just after being built due to a divorce. I was at the end of this peninsula and owned the last two lots (i.e both sides of the end and 6–8 times the land of every other lot). We each had rights for our utilities and traffic to cross the properties on the road further up from us. There was a 15 foot easement for the road. So, I arrive home and find a fence post in my driveway (within the 15 ft easement). I ask the new owner to remove it and he refuses (his first mistake). It cost me $1000 to put in another driveway. Easier than filing a lawsuit. Then he started driving at high speed in the no wake zone (that he legally had right to cross) on my property. I literally owned the waterway (yes if it doesn’t connect on both sides it is like a pond) but it was a legal no wake zone. I made no complaints but talked to him. Eventually I made a complaint to the Sheriff. He was ticketed for this 5 times. Isn’t video great?Next I get a call from the water company. They wanted to know where I wanted my meter moved. I was dumbfounded. They were going to charge me to move it. Why did it need to be moved? It turns out he had formed a “group” of the the three owners of 4 lots (I owned two of four) at the end of the road and decided (without ever telling me there was a group) to put in a cul-de-sac which would be 95 % on my property. There was no easement. A simple certified letter to the paving company and water company stopped them. Amazing what a 50 foot cypress tree costs to replace (he called them fern trees). I think the number was $60,000 apiece.Next I get a lawyer letter from the company his wife (a paralegal) worked for claiming there was an easement. It was drawn on plans 20 years earlier and never built, never filed or described and would have taken up 2/3 of his front yard. He claimed emergency vehicles could not turn around and the easement had to be moved because his house had been built. The fire department said they would just break through his fence if he needed.Another certified letter to the law firm and they stopped (free services only go so far), but my neighbor parked a trailer in the road. I moved it after knocking on his door. While my wife was videotaping it I moved it to the side. He called the police making claims. That worked out well for him too. He was charged with making a false police report. He kept driving on to my property and doing doughnuts claiming he had a right to turn around. So next I put up an iron gate just like his. I painted my boathouse on his side only a hideous pink (I couldn’t see it, a bit passive aggressive but not against the rules). I put up no trespassing signs. He was cited for being on my property twice (gotta love cameras). He called the police when I would drive across his portion of the road. I kept a copy of the easement in every vehicle. So the police would show up, I would show them certified court documents and explain. It didn’t hurt that the sheriff and most of the detectives had spine surgery done by guess who. They would go warn him AGAIN.Finally, I planted huge bamboo. This stuff grew. It totally cut off his view and lowered the value of his house tremendously. Most of his waterfront view was directly across my property. He complained. I just said I wanted privacy. Battle won.He sold. I knew the next neighbors and they asked me I could trim the bamboo. I shook his hand and said “glad to” can you help a bit? That stuff was hard to kill. It all went away.Neighbor from hell disposed of. It took 5 years but it was my second house.
The private property where I store my RV is trying to keep it. There were no agreements. They simply want to take it. How should I proceed with trying to get it back? I didn’t get a chance to register it in my name. I have bill of sale and keys.
Simple get the title mess straightened out. Do you owe them $$$ for storage? Yes? Pay up & then move your RV & take them to small claims court.Start with a simple certified letter. Say as little as possible. Be gracious .Dont threaten or rant the battle is in court ,plan to win. You have to show a loss.Make sure ALL your paperwork is in order
The IRS called and said that I owe them money and that they could possess the house unless I pay. I don't remember owing anything but am scared. What should I do?
Simple. The IRS never calls. I repeat, the IRS never calls. (Okay, not for this kind of thing.) They send the sheriff with a certified letter that is handed to you in their presence. If that happens, be worried. It hasn’t. Don’t worry.
