Poverty alleviation is an incremental process that needs modern approach, usage of technology, entrepreneurship and public private partnership. Technology just adds into the efforts of poverty reduction.Bi-partisan Initiative:Mr. Modi must be taking a grand stand to promote - as the question suggests - 'petty initiative' like Digital India. Therefore, it is not entirely true that Mr. Modi 'persists with petty initiative'.Infrastructural Development:Digital India has three core components. These include:The creation of digital infrastructure: Faster information sharing leading to better decision making. Well informed citizens making a peaceful and at the same time alert society.Delivering services digitally: This will lead to hassle-free, paperless and corruption free governance in everyday transactions.Digital literacy: Means Equality. Digital literacy has power to bridge the gap between rich and the poor. We have seen that access to information and possibility of faster exchange not only eliminates geographical separation but also propagates awareness (e.g. Facebook, WhatsApp)Digital India - Holistic View:Few points about how it has potential to change life of individuals.DigiLocker will promote paperless governance. Registration of documents and verification of their authenticity will be hassle-free. End Result: Less documentation. Accurate verification. Reduced redundancy. Anywhere access.Aadhaar Number (UIDAI) enabled secure way of identity verification. This is currently being used by various state police departments. End Result: Easier identity verification. Reduced lower-level corruption.Universal Access to Phones and Broadband Highways: Imagine every Indian getting connected directly or indirectly with other Indian. Broadband connectivity alone has huge potential to bring social equality.e-Governance – Reforming government through Technology: Regardless of economic status both poor and rich will equally benefit from e-Governance. This can arguably bring down the lower level corruption.After Oil, Electronics is the second largest sector where India has to make imports.
