How was your SBI PO interview experience in 2019?

Place: Lucknow.Date:28th September, 2019The day started with the document verification process. As soon as I reached the venue I was made to sit with the fellow students for the DV process. For me, it went smoothly except for the part where the examiner started to give me a hard time over the name and the address of the references I gave. But It all worked out fine, in the end. After DV we were all made to sit in a conference room and wait for the GD process to start. There were 11 of us and 9 out of them were working mostly as SBI clerk. So I was pretty intimidated because of that.Anyway, very soon my gd started. Two examiners were there. One male and one female. Both of them explained to us the rules and regulations we needed to follow and after that gave us the topic of our GD.The topic was: Discounts given by e-commerce companies, are they sustainable in the long run?We were given 5 minutes to jot down the points after that the Gd Started. It went pretty smoothly as far the consensus is concerned. Not even once I felt that I was taking some kind of exam. People were really cordial and considerate when it came to listening to other people’s point of views. I spoke alot. And, once or twice the lady examiner particularly encouraged me with a smile. After that the GE started. The topic was yet again pretty basic. We were given 7 points that needed to be sorted out in the particular order of our priorities. Basically, we had to assume that we were going for an interview in a reputed MNC and what would be the things we would do first, second and so on in order to prepare for the same.Again our group reached at consensus. The examiners also cracked 2-3 jokes in between. By the end of it we were all laughing and pretty satisfied with our respective experiences. After our GD-GE we were provided with lunch. And soon thereafter, our interviews started. I had to go after 5 people, all of them were working as SBI clerks and were from my hometown. Deep inside, I knew that by the time my turn will come the general questions related to my city and SBI would be a gone deal. Still, I was hoping for the best. Now after a lot of waiting, my turn came. As soon as the bell rang, I knocked at the door and asked for permission to get in.There were 5 people. 2 females and 3 males.I greeted all of them. And they asked me to take my seat. I thanked them for the same.Lady 1: So, Aastha tell me something about yourself?I gave the prepared answer to this question. And, deliberately mentioned the part that I really liked reading. As soon as she heard that, her face kind of lighted up.So, which was the last book that you read?A: Crime and punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky ma'am.Lady 1: Oh, that's so nice, what exactly did you find interesting in that book?A: I gave all the details and the nuances that I liked in the book. How the book challenged my entire belief system etc etc.Lady 1: Which other books have you read? Who is your favourite author?A: Since I like classic genre, I've read To kill a mocking bird by harper lee. Jane eyre by Charlotte bronte, also wuthering heights by Emily bronte are some of the books that I've read. Also I've read almost all the books written by Jane austen. As far as my favourite author is concerned, I really like Khalid hosseinis work. I've read all three of his books.Lady 1: Since you've mentioned harper lee. Do you happen to know about any other work of hers? Now, I didn't know the name of the other book that Harper lee had written. So, I said that I am not really aware of it ma'am. To which she said that there was one book more that Lee had written. I told her that that’d would be the first thing I’d order as soon as the interview got over. She laughed at this and turned to the other interviewer for further questions.Male 1: *in a jolly tone* first of all Aastha tell me what kind of a biodata is this? I am not able to make out a single thing from it.A: Actually sir the thing is that I didn't read the instructions properly,so that's why i didn't realise that I was supposed to bring 4 copies of my bio data form and therefore brought just one instead. :P And, that is the reason the sir who was helping me with the document verification made copies of the biodata form I brought along. Hence, the invisibility factor sir. :PNow, I was expecting him to get really irked because of that, he instead started laughing and said it's alright, and told me it happens all the time and there was no need for me to break a sweat over an issue as trivial as that. After this he asked some questions related to the economy, because I am an MBA in-foreign trade so there were some obvious questions related to how the economy was doing in terms of foreign trade. After him Interviewer no. 3 took over.Male1: So, miss Aastha, tell me the difference between balance of trade and balance of payment?Told.Male1: Now, I'd like you to tell me if a firm incurs loss where is it settled in the balance sheet?A: It goes in the liabilities side sir.Male 1: Yeah, I know that but where exactly would you settle it? Would it be added to the capital or subtracted?*Now I don't know what came over me at that point of time, but I gave the wrong answer, but he didn't say anything and continued to smile, I realised that I gave the wrong answer, changed my answer instantly and apologised for being stupid. He smiled and told me to take it easy. Offered me water as well.Although some water would’ve helped but I declined his offer and the interview moved forward.Male2: So tell me have you heard that our economy is struggling GDP wise?A: Yes, sir. 5% GDP.Male2: Which sector exactly has been the wrath bearer of it all?A: Sir, automobile sector and the core sectors as well.Male2: Yes. So tell me is there any thing the government has announced recently in order to help them?A: Yes sir, recently Nirmala Sitharaman ji slashed down corporate taxes to 22% from 30%.Also, the CSR purview has also been expanded. Now the sectors can invest their 2% into psus and iits as well.Although, the economy is going to siffer to the tune of 1,45,000 crores but Sitharaman ji is making provisions to compensate for that.Male2: Anything in particular for the automobile sector?A: Sorry, sir but I can't think of any right now.Male2: Okay, no problem, acha tell me how exactly is your foreign trade related to the banking sector? Would foreign trade be able to survive if banks cease to exist?A: Not really, sir. Banks are an essential prerequisite for the foreign trade to work smoothly. No banks means no currency, how will the businesses run without currency!?Male2: *Smiling*What if I do barter?A: Sir, barter has it's own sets of disadvantages. *tried to put my point across by giving an example of two countries, to which he gave a counterpoint, which I seem to have forgotten :P*All I remember is that in the end he was pretty convinced and even cracked a joke about the economic situation of India and how it would be better if we switched to the barter system instead.Anyway, now the turn of the 3rd gentleman came.Male3: Tell me, what do you know about Shamiyana?A: I don't know sir.Male3: I see.He didn't ask me anymore questions.Lady no. 2, was the only person who didn't utter a single word during the interview. She was giving really cold expressions throughout. So when her turn came I was pretty shaken.Lady2 : What is current ratio?A: *misheard it as current asset and started giving the definition of that*Lady2: No beta, what is current ratio? In ratios there are usually two entities involved. What will be those two things?A: Finally the fact that she was asking about current ratio dawned upon me and I said current assets/current liability at one go.*But, she didn't even bat a eyelid and said thank you, you can go now.*I thanked everyone and came out of the room with mixed emotions. So, this was my overall interview experience. I don't know whether I'll be able to see my name in the final list or not, but, whatever happens, I'll always remember this experience. :)
