Microsoft offers two parallel sets of controls that you may add to worksheets or VBA userforms. They let you add dropdowns, textboxes, date pickers and the like to your project just like it were a custom-written application. You can find both sets on the Developer ribbon when you click the Insert menu item.The older set, called Forms controls, is supported on both Mac and Windows desktop Excel. Many Excel experts feel Forms controls are more robust because they have been around so long, and the bugs have been fixed. I recommend using Forms controls for these reasons.The newer set, called ActiveX controls, are supported only on Windows desktop Excel. I doubt they will ever be supported on Mac desktop Excel. ActiveX controls have many more features (such as color, 3D appearance, etc.) than Forms controls—but some experts regard them as buggier. ActiveX controls have been known to move or resize themselves unexpectedly, for example.Both Forms and ActiveX controls may be used both on the worksheet. Both of them may also be used on a VBA userform. They appear a little clunky IMHO on the worksheet, but look quite natural on a userform.<Rant> The documentation for both Forms and ActiveX controls is difficult to find in the VBA online help. Specifically, it is hard to tell whether the objects and properties being discussed belong to Forms or ActiveX control collections. I suggest relying on third-party documentation for this purpose—so make sure that you search for a Forms Checkbox or an ActiveX ComboBox.</Rant>

Linux has got more than 20+ DEs (Desktop Environments).Unlike Windows, which has got only one Desktop Environment, Linux has got many and in fact many companies are developing new DEs also.Both KDE and GNOME are free and can be installed on Linux and other OS like FreeBSD etc., and it will be very interesting to learn about these DEs as you won’t/can’t learn about these things in Windows.KDE - WikipediaGNOME - WikipediaLearn about xfce also : Xfce - WikipediaThe flexibility these DEs offer is unparalleled and one has to experience these environments to understand.e.g Windows don’t have the concept of Workspaces but these DEs have that - what is the meaning of it - simple - suppose you are using say some 12 windows - Excel, Chrome Browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Word, PowerPoint - all will be showing on the Taskbar and it will be confusing as it will not segregate all Browser based things to one Workspace, all Worksheet based programs to one Workspace etc.,But these DEs will help you to do it like this and if you start using these and become a power user, then you will understand how inferior Windows Desktop Environment is :(Learn more about the diversity of Linux and other things to appreciate the other side
