Forum being the group of 8 to 10 company owners that meet every month.Before joining a forum, one has to take a one day training on the proper protocol during a meeting. The protocol is designed to increase trust and sharing and it is effective. The protocol is constantly being tweaked and every other year we hire a trainer to update us.There is no professional moderation during our meetings. The only attendees are the other entrepreneurs (and for us, a trainer every couple of years).The forum meeting is completely confidential, no notes are taken and the meeting is in a private location. If you miss the meeting, no one "catches you up" on anything that was discussed.As an example of protocol, no advice is allowed. If I give you advice, I'm going to expect you to take my advice and if you don't, I'm naturally going to stop telling you what I think because you don't listen. Similarly, if I discuss an issue and everyone tells me what to do, I'm going to feel defensive and be less forthcoming next time. So the protocol is that if I have advice, I think about what experience I had that shaped my advice. Instead of advice I share the story of my experience. So in reality I wasnt the one who dropped the ball.” After the meeting it was lunch time, so I went to my desk to sit for a second and process what had just occurred. What in God's UNPROFESSIONAL hell had I just experienced? An email pops up, it's the husband boss asking me to come in for a meeting with him and his wife when I get back from lunch. I closed the tab, said “have a nice lunch" to my coworkers and left. As soon as I found a safe spot to park I went ahead and emailed my resignation letter stating that I did not feel as though I was a good fit for such a hostile environment.” They tried calling me, but at that point I had experienced so much verbal abuse and seen everyone be verbally abused by this psycho for the entire time I was there. I didn't owe them anything. I walked away that day and have been more careful in my interview processes ever since, making sure I only work for companies I believe in and for bosses who respect their employees.
