Why in the UK in 2019 can we not vote online, as obviously this would massively increase voter numbers; or are the government afraid of this, because the inevitable increase in votes from younger generations, would mean more votes against them?The current method works, so any suggested improvements should actually improve matters, and not create new problems.Would online voting massively increase voter turnout? It really isn’t hard to either go to a polling station or fill in a postal vote. Are there really that many people who would vote but find the current system too much like hard work. Most non-voters cite reasons like ‘voting makes no difference’ or ‘they’re all the same’ as their reason for not voting.How do you handle online security for the system? The last thing I want is yet another online ID with set of passwords and security. What happens when Ethel, aged 85, goes to the polling station, and is told she has already voted online because the system has been hacked? Or only finds out three weeks when the police come to talk to her about her having voted twice?How does it address the problems around electoral registration- either people not registering at all, or registering in multiple constituencies ( students, second home owners etc), which enables double voting?How does it address problems where one person in the family dictates how everyone should vote- very hard to do in a polling station, but easy to do with postal votes, or online.Online voting is fine for talent shows, but for a real election it is a solution looking for a problem.

Before I begin with my first day's experience, let me share some particulars.I am a fresher at IIT Mandi (2019 batch) pursuing Data Science Engineering (For my rank and previous JEE related answers, please visit my profile and find recently answered questions.Okay so , let's get going.I won't be talking about the registration or the hostel allotment days, as they are boring anyways. So let's get started with the first day of our 5 week induction program (Yeah , that's 5 weeks) It started on 26th July.25th JulyIt was the day of registration and a very busy and tiring day. Same day , my parents also left mandi after settling everything for me. So 25th night was my first night at hostel. At night, I played PUBG with my roomies , then watched a new episode of suits and went off to sleep.26th July (Basically the first day at IIT)Woke up at 7 am , did all the morning chores, took a bath and went to the mess for breakfast.After the breakfast, we went to the auditorium for a session with the director about the induction program and after few more sessions, we were sent to different rooms after being divided into groups.In the rooms also, there are verbal sessions going on where the explained the plans of the induction program ( which again was boring (not the activities which we will be doing, but the talk was boring))After these sessions, we went for lunch in the mess. Then we rested in our room for a while amd went to the auditorium again for an english proficiency test which lasted for 50 minutes.After the test and a short break, two more talks were lined up which again were not very interesting. After these talks, finally the time for talks was over and the last event of the day i e (Fresher Mixer at 8:15 pm) was to be held.Before the fresher mixer, we had a lot of time as the talks ended at around 5:30, so we went to the mess for snacks, and then to the sports complex to play Table Tennis. After coming back, we moved on for the fresher mixer.The fresher mixer was the best part of the day. We interacted with the seniors and our batchmates. An open talent show was also held in which anyone can perform on the stage. And, the best part was the dance by the seniors.After the event was over, we went to the canteen for dinner and then went back to our rooms.
