PDF Editor FAQ

What's the dumbest thing you've heard a defendant say in the courtroom?

In a juvenile court trial, the little old lady whose purse was taken in a robbery was on the stand testifying. “That young man right there had a gun pointed right at me. And he said ‘Gimme your purse.’” On cross-examination, desperate for some defense, I asked, “In which hand was the gun?” “It was in his left hand.” My client yelled, “She’s lying! It was in my right hand!” I didn’t win that case.

Was the juvenile court a good idea?

Yes, it was an excellent idea.Since I went to juvenile court and not adult court after I was charged with theft and fraud at age 17, I was given the opportunity to keep my nose clean until my 18th birthday. I wisely did so, and as a result I did not have a criminal record when I turned 18.Since my professional life over the past 30 years has been predicated on international travel, which I would not be able to do with a criminal record, I can literally say"My entire adult life would have been different and much worse were it not for juvenile court."

What is an experience you had at a court house that you'll never forget?

I got caught stealing when I was 14. Had to go to juvenile court. My mother embarrassed the heck out of me when she begged the judge not to put me in jail. I was only 14 for crying out loud. Never forgot that.
