Product Management differs from company to company.In a large company, Product Management may mean product development with relatively small scope. In other words, the job is thinly sliced and the overall role of product management may be spread over multiple people and groups/organization.You will learn how to:1. Develop lots of documentation on the concept, idea, high level business cases for various gatekeepers, many times replicating the same information to fit into the document templates of other organizations (these organizations will only accept their document template). You will learn to copy/paste across documents :-)2. Develop Product Requirements Document and getting an unusually large number of interested and non-interested gatekeepers to review and approve your documents. This sometimes involves having meetings or conference calls with more than 30 people, some of who, by virtue of their role, are simply gatekeepers and have nothing to contribute to the product/project.3. Developing presentation material and presenting the product/project/whatever to a large group of gatekeepers for approval.4. At each stage, throwing your documents over the organizational wall to gatekeepers in respective organizations (e.g finance, Engineering, Web Development, IT, Marketing, etc). Sometimes each of these organizations have their own process, so hope for the best!5. In a large company, there are many projects that come through the pipleline, but the functional groups will/can only handle some of them (and projects get prioritized), soa) you will learn to work with your management to get a higher priority for your project. After all, this is the only project you have and you have to look after your career.b) you will learn to make your Total Available Market (TAM), Projected Revenue, or other important factor so that your projects gets the development budget/funding.6. Run weekly or so 'status' calls, answer mundane questions, and fill more paperwork, and twiddle thumbs/play games, play politics, till the product is developed over its expected development cycle.7. Towards the end, coordinate testing and provide info to other organizations (marketing, promotions, etc) to make your project successful. You will also learn to establish connections with sales and/or business development people to your product to customers.At a small company, you'll be doing all this and more.

There’s no such thing as “the best” or “the worst” sales process!What works for one business won’t necessarily be as effective for you. So you need to build a process that is tailored to your business specifics, your current needs, goals, and considering your sales strategy.However, there are some best practices you should follow. Have the process formally documented and stored in your company knowledge base, where every team member can access it.Consistent - make sure all of the involved parties – Marketing, Sales, and Success teams – know their responsibilities and strictly follow the process. Ensure seamless collaboration between them (as in case of lead hand-off).Measurable - keep an eye on your metrics at each step of the process so you can pinpoint any issues ASAP and adjust your process for better results.Up to date - don’t let your process get stale – regularly review your strategy, enrich your toolset, and adjust your process to the changing buyer’s journey.Hope this helps!

Google doesn’t have an over arching software methodology. Different teams have different ways of working. Some teams use an agile methodology, some use an informal agile like approach, others use a more top-down style (manager driven). It is rare to have specifications. There are some design document templates and some groups operate a review by committee type approach. Peer code reviews for all code is widely enforced, but standards vary significantly. There is a launch process which is quite rigorous and can be gating, if “best practises” have not been adopted.
