Many schools, including UW Madison, provide access to software that walks students step by step through filling out the necessary forms. GLACIER Tax Prep is a common example of this type of software.I don't know whether the folks at HR Block and similar mass-market places are familiar with handling forms for foreign students. You could call and ask -- the specific forms you need are probably Form 1040NR (or likely the shorter 1040NR-EZ) and Form 8843. It depends on the reason why you were temporarily in the US, the reason for filing late, whether the ability to disregard days would change your resident status, and a number of other things. For example, it could result in you owing taxes after all. Or not. There are too many variables involved.
