The portrayal of a Cold blooded Industrialist who will go any length to run his business is Impeccable.Day-Lewis won Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe,Screen Actors Guild, NYFCC and IFTA Best Actor awards for his performance. That is basically every award under the sky.My fav scene in this movie: Daniel Plainview falls into a 50 foot tunnel while drilling for Oil and breaks his leg. He finds an ore sample indicating the presence of oil in the tunnel. There is nobody around for help within his eyesight. He climbs out of the tunnel and crawls on the ground dragging his broken leg to the nearest assay office(Which is probably miles away from the drilling site) to record his claim!

I think this is the wrong question. A better question might be: Why would it matter? The HFPA could be as diverse as the globe its members supposedly represent, and it would still be an organization notorious for being corrupt and easily swayed. It would also be notorious for having dubious judgment, both because of the small sample size (it has about 90 voters, compared to, say, 8,500 for the Oscars and about 100,000 for the Screen Actors Guild awards) and the suspect credentials of its members. (Are they really journalists? Do they really know about filmmaking and TV production? Are they TV and movie critics or just reporters?).The diversity scandal is a blessing in disguise for the HFPA.
