Edit - January 2016. After the perspective of a year away from marinating in the steady drip of internal self-congratulatory PR Kool-Aid within Facebook I think I'd answer very differently today. Facebook has largely succeeded in its mission, with really only the unconnected/lower-margin parts of the world remaining. The BIG internal TECHNICAL problems have been solved and what remains is step-and-repeat with some revision and incremental refinement. The big wins and upside are in the past, and the internally available equity largely diluted to the level of "good bonus/nice parting gift." The average tenure of an FB employee is the exact duration of their four year vesting period. Every week you'd see the obligatory badge/laptop photo-farewell [FB Only] posts of super-valuable talent taking their vesting proceeds and going off to do something better - and you'd look them up on the internal org-chart tool and see that "yep... four years, almost to the day." The result of this constant attrition is that the "builder culture" that was pervasive when I joined in 2010 has been largely rotated out and replaced with a "maintainer" culture. The things I mostly saw being built in my last year were internal fiefdoms and infighting over who runs what. The people who stay longer are the "keep my head down, my mouth shut, and keep my job" folks for the most part.Facebook is making money by the multi-billions every quarter. They can and should pay above market rate, but they don't. There is absolutely ZERO reasons to take a pay cut to join Facebook today. None. Zip. Nada. Your equity grant will be minuscule, with minimal upside. The likelihood that you're going to work for an awful manager is almost guaranteed. FB internally TRIES very hard to develop managers, but honestly, it is all based on politically-correct, participation trophy generation pop psychology, primarily designed to prevent them from being sued for (gender/sexual harassment/racial/whatever) discrimination - very little about you know... actually managing people. The twice yearly Performance Summary Cycle is as onerous as it is useless. The results are meaningless, as the post-PSC calibration at the management level largely ignores the peer-input anyway and resorts to stack-ranking and horse-trading. I lived it first hand.So, read my original answer and realize that FB is no longer the scrappy little company with a great idea. They're an ever-growing bureaucracy with an undeveloped, immature front-line- and middle-management layer. Want to make big impact? Find a different employer, ideally where your expertise will have impact, and your pay will actually equal your contribution.Or invent a time machine and join Facebook in 2008, and leave by 2014 or so.(The Canucks haven't won the Stanley Cup yet either.)____ Original answer ____I was a VP of Tech Ops at a small, regional colo provider. It was a ton of fun to build a company from near-nothing, to a well-respected and mildly well-known player in the industry. In 2006, and again in 2008 Google tried to recruit me away to their Datacenters - for a lot of reasons irrelevant to your question I stayed where I was - BUT I did have to ask myself the very same question.In 2010 Facebook called me - and even *they* asked me that question. It came up in almost every interview: "are you going to be OK going from VP to a Datacenter Lead?"Honestly, it is kind of a silly question, because I answered it with: "Today I'm skating first line on the Chilliwack Bruins, and the Vancouver Canucks just invited me to tryout to be on their third line."It was a simple choice really. Go to the tryout. If they make an offer, and you like the people you'll be playing with... pack your bag!Bottom Line: TITLE is irrelevant. Impact is everything.At my old job I was the top dog at a small player with impact for a few hundred customers. Today, my work has impact on one/sixth of humanity. I work in what is the absolute leading edge of technology in my sector - a model of what the rest of the datacenter industry will be doing 15 years from now. best of all, it is open, and we've shared the specs from the servers to the building walls.So ask yourself: Titles? Levels? Those are just hooks to hang ego upon. Pay? That is up to you to negotiate. The core issue is: what do you want to get done?

Before you leave your home country:Get 3 sets of sealed and stamped transcripts from your university. You will need them when you pursue further studies in Canada.Get your kids' educational transcripts from their schoolsBring records of vaccinations for every member of the familyEnsure you bring stamped motor vehicle reports which verify your ticket history for the last 3 years from the ministry of transportation. You will be able to get a G license directly if you have relevant experience.Ask your auto and home insurers to provide claims history for the last 6 years. This will save you a whole lot of insurance premiums. 'Make that 10 years history if you can instead of just 6. Some Insurers give larger discounts for the more clean driver history you can provide'*Get letters of reference from 3 of your previous managers. Ensure you ask their permission before using them as references for jobs.Sell all your assets and bring the cash to Canada. You will need the financial buffer and honestly it may be a while before you head home.After you come to Canada get your SIN number and open your bank accounts. Deposit all your travelers checks and bank drafts right away. Apply for a newcomer credit card and start using it from day one (Even to buy your first cellphone and laptop- credit history is huge here) Book your driving test. Apply for your health card. Newcomer agencies will help you in all of this for free. Get a job. Find a comfortable home. Don't be too choosy about the job but please be choosy about where you live. Don't live in a basement. I would love to retire there some day.Don't convert Canadian dollar prices into Rupees, Pesos, Yen or whatever. It will just stress you out and serve no purpose. You need to eat and live a little. You can't watch prices constantly.Google ' Toronto Raptors' , 'Maple Leafs' and 'Blue Jays' (Toronto) ‘Canucks’ *(Vancouver), ‘Habs’ (Montreal Canadiens) and come up to speed on their history and top players. Then watch the games whenever they come up and be ready to dive into the water cooler chat like a pro.Sample the Canadian menu regulars. Get a Double-Double at Timmys, poutine and a hot dog at Costco and some Sushi from your local mall.Visit Niagara Falls, the CN tower, Ride the rocket and the Go train (all in the GTA) and Parliament Hill ( Ottawa). Go camping in summer with the 'learn to camp' programme. Don’t miss Whistler* and Kelowna* in BC and Jasper and Banff* in Alberta for some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in the world. We drove up to the East coast last year and were blown away by the beauty of Cape Breton Island, saw dolphins swimming along from the shore at Digby, saw the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy and enjoyed swimming in the warm waters of Parlee Beach and PEI, just to name a few unforgettable sights in that part of Canada. Depends on several things.Laptop or Desktop: While the desktop and laptop versions of the Pascal cards are remarkably close w.r.t performance - the cooling on the mobile cards can often be a limiting factor. Especially on AAA games for more than an hour or so of gaming - there is a chance that a laptop card may throttle.Depends on resolution and graphical quality settings. A GTX 1050Ti is best suited for 1080p gaming at medium to high settings.Depends on the game. Most modern AAA games would run quite well. Anything less would run much better.I would say 30–50fps (med-high) at 1080p for modern AAA titles. 60fps and above for older AAA titles and less demanding games at 1080p (high).You may experience different framerates depending on type of game as well. Some games are better optimised than others. Open world titles may have some drops in framerates compared to FPS games with a smaller map.With open world games, storage speeds can also come into picture , especially in reducing loading times. But once in-game, storage speeds aren't that relevant.CPUs and RAM aren't really that important beyond a point. Dual-core hyperthreaded CPUs do fine (as long as they aren't U-series Ultrabook CPUs) for most games. 8GB of RAM is fine for 99% of the games. Some games like Watch Dogs 2 and Just Cause 3 may throw up a warning that memory might be insufficient. They seem to prefer 16GB of RAM.TLDR: Depends on games - 30–50fps@1080p at medium to high settings. If it's a laptop - high temperatures might be an issue in long gaming sessions (1hr+).Also,Look up reviews on YouTube. Plenty of reviewers, like Dave Lee (Dave2D), review gaming laptops. Places like GamersNexus provide detailed analysis of hardware. Channels like Hardware Canucks, LinusTechTips provide consumer-level advice on gaming components. They do a lot of benchmarks on gaming hardware.
