“Well, go ahead and pull the trigger.” Another dispatcher was on the line with a suicidal man who was threatening to shoot himself. The dispatcher was getting frustrated with him and finally lost her cool and said that to him. I grabbed the phone away from her and told her to get out of the radio room for a bit. I took over the call and was able to talk the man out of killing himself. I was livid with the dispatcher (she was new and clearly not cut out for the job). She quit shortly thereafter.

We had an incident that involved a former spouse who broke into his ex-wife’s home in violation of a restraining order. He wasn’t allowing her to leave, saying he just wanted some time for them to discuss their problems. She said she had to call off from work or she would be fired. He allowed her to use the phone.We had a very sharp woman dispatcher working:The conversation went something like this:Dispatcher: “Police department. What is your emergency?”Caller: “ Hi, Mr. Jones, it’s Sally. I won’t be coming in to work today.”Dispatcher: “Do you need the police?”Caller: “Yes, I should be back tomorrow.”Dispatcher: “Are you in any danger?”Caller: “Yes, I have a bad cold.”Dispatcher: Police are en route. Are there weapons?”Caller: “I’m not sure, about next week.”Dispatcher: “The police will be there in less than a minute!”We kicked in the front door and had the guy in custody in less than a minute. The caller was in the same room with him and amazingly was still on the telephone with dispatch. He was charged with violating the no-contact order and also false imprisonment. Even after our entry, he still didn’t figure out she was on the phone with the police. That’s the only incident I can recall which comes close to your question.

(to Jaydon) Take one more breath, one more breath. there you go Jaydon! Good job! Just stay with me, okay? Okay? There you go, Good job, Jaydon!Dispatcher: Is he breathing?Caller: He’s barely breathing! How many times do I have to f***ing tell you?Dispatcher: Okay, you know what ma’am? You could deal with this yourself. I’m not going to deal with this okay?Caller: No, my friend is dying, I-The dispatcher hangs up. Jaydon later passed away.The lady was stressed and young and didn't know how to deal with the situation, she was scared as anyone else would be and the dispatcher kept on asking the same question!! The dispatcher choose his feelings over this young boys life. It was his job to help them and he denied the help that could've saved the life of this teen.Did he go to jail? No. This is his face:The dispatcher known as Matthew Sanchez lost his job as a result of hanging up. He tried to sue the county, saying he was fired unfairly and is suffering "psychological injuries" as a result. They settled for $25,000.So, not only did this guy indirectly kill a kid- he got rewarded $25,000.
