School Emergency Contact: Fill & Download for Free

Depending on where you are, you’ll need to go to a police office.The sooner, the better, as having ready access to your legal documentation is beneficial and the police have powers to protect you from possible familial endangerment. They can also most expediently forward you into emergency contacts within whatever your version of Children’s Services.This will mean that you can go to school as soon as possible, so that you’re not left with a gap that might stymie your education, as well as provide shelter and financial support sooner rather than later.Depending on the nature of your social services, or the reason you were kicked out of home, I wouldn’t suggest religious institutions.

I had several methods but these are the ones that I remember.Exhibit A: Be a blanket.One time I decided that I was too tired to get up for school. I contemplated the 45 minutes it would take me to get to school (If I caught the bus and train on time) plus that 1 hour it would take for me to get ready. I didn’t have an excuse ready for my mom so I went for the easiest solution… to become part of the blankets that were on my bed.In my mind this made sense since I had a lot of blankets. I would just hide under the pile and stay there until my mother and my brother left.This would have worked too if my brother didn’t walk in on me coming out for air!He ran to my mom and told her I was still home. I’m still mad at him for that one.Exhibit B: Updating emergency contact.Every year our homeroom teacher would give us a blank form to update our emergency contact information. This is where I took the chance to select a few adults who I trusted for actual emergencies and I left my own number as the main contact.One time I even tried to call in sick at the school and I tried so hard to fake the accent my mom has. The conversation went a little like this:Me: *terrible spanish accent* Elo, yes, cesilia no come to school yes? She has cough and hot! So bad.Secretary: Ah, that’s too bad. Tell Cesilia to tell her real mom to call the school, okay Cesilia?Me: *facepalm*

9/10 of the time, just politely refuse to talk to them.“Are you (your name)?”“Yes.”“I’m from CPS. We received a call about (your child).”“Oh.”(This will throw them off right away. 9/10 of people start incriminating themselves or asking questions. Don’t)“Are you aware of____” Or “did ___ happen to your child” For example “Are you aware that your child threatened suicide at school?”(Give only non incriminating yes/no answers)“Are you aware____”“No.”“The school thinks your child needs mental health support.”“Oh.”“Is your child getting mental health support?”“Yes.”“May I have the name of the counsellor?”“No.”“May I ask why not?”“No.”“May I come inside.”“No thank you. Have a wonderful day!” And you shut the door.Follow your “visit” up with a letter stating that a strange person who gave their name as X showed up at (your address) at (time and date) claiming to be a CPS worker. You were clearly concerned that this person with no ID but an easy to print business card was at your door. If the person was from their agency, the agency should contact your lawyer to set up a meeting at his/her office.Most often the result will be a letter saying they’re closing your case but that you can always “call if you need them”…as IF.If they had enough evidence to take your child, they’d have taken your child from school. Which in and of itself is ridiculous because making best efforts to find an appropriate relative to take the child SHOULD mean calling the emergency contacts on the school’s list. Not kidnapping the child and placing him/her with strangers!
