I joined Microsoft on 2016. Currently I’m SDE 2 at Microsoft IDC. I will post my numbers which are at / above average in Microsoft IDC.Base salary: 21 lpaBonus Cash: Variable (0–20%). I get around 3 lpaBonus Stock : 1 lpa (5 lacs split over 5 years)Stock Options: 10 lpa (I got 5 lpa durin placement, due to stock price increase, its current valuation is 10lpa)Total: 35 lpaApart from this, I get tax benefits from the car lease policy I have , Medical Options, Medical/ dental/Vision / fitness reimbursements, lunch subsidy of 100rs per day, company transport shuttl to and from work, gym facility, Employee Stock Purchase Plan at 10% discount and much more.

With time and some experience, I would say that benefits shouldn’t always be looked in terms of money. There are things that people often overlook and undermine in early phase. Healthy environment, competent peers and work-life balance Remember, work contentment is more important and it’s what would keep you going in the long run. Okay! Enough lecture on these. There’s an important production comparison to be made.Looking at major warships, over the course of WW2 Britain produced 41 aircraft carriers, 6 battleships, 102 cruisers and 240 destroyers. In contrast Germany produced 1 aircraft carrier (launched, but did not become operational), 2 battleships, no cruisers and 18 destroyers.This is important because, looking at the map, there’s what is technically called “some wet stuff” between Britain and the Continent, which tanks can’t drive on and which needs things called “ships” to cross.To defeat Britain, Germany needed to achieve sea control over “the wet stuff” so that they could send troops and tanks and trucks and ammunition and fuel and food and all the other essentials of modern warfare across “the wet bit” to defeat Britain. Unfortunately, Germany was never anywhere near controlling the Channel, making any effort to get troops across comically suicidal.The other option would be some sort of blockade, perhaps using submarines: Germany build over a thousand U-boats (each one using as much steel and skilled labour as an entire battalion’s worth of tanks) to try to starve Britain into submission, but by May 1943 the U-boats had been so comprehensively hammered that Doenitz withdrew the handful of survivors from the Atlantic.Now, Britain was going to struggle to find a way to defeat Germany alone… but that’s not the same as “unable to survive”. Lend-Lease allowed Britain to take more offensive action that it might have otherwise, but Britain could survive and defend itself in a stalemate; while Nazi Germany’s economy was stumbling towards collapse, and by the end of 1941 they’d voluntarily added the USSR and the United States to their list of enemies.
