While policy matters when governing, this election is not about a public health insurance option, investment in renewable energy or child care. This election is about competence and just plain decency. As long as we have a president who cares about nothing but himself, nothing gets fixed, and the country continues to circle the drain.Getting into the weeds about policy is something Democrats love to do. Republicans love it when they do because Republican operatives can pick a policy, find some detail in it that some group doesn’t like and then use their BIG DATA to target advertising to people they figure won’t like that little bit. Republicans want to make the election about provisions in a Democratic wish list that would likely never survive the give and take involved in passing real legislation.The real issue in the 2020 election is whether Donald Trump a good or a bad president, and whether Biden would be better. Empathy is one thing Biden has in abundance, and Trump lacks completely.I listened to Biden’s speech and frankly I thought it had too much policy in it. Biden was preaching to the choir, and that’s largely a waste of time. Biden needs to convince Americans that he will be a better leader than Donald Trump, not that his wish list is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Target replaced Zellers, which was a well established business. Target did not do pre-opening advertising and relied on Zellers customers to stay. That didn’t happen for several reasons.Target closed all the stores to renovate instead of staying open and renovating in increments while customers still had access to the stores. During the months that the stores were closed, customers went elsewhere, and they had lots of choice.When Target reopened, the regular customers checked it out. This is what they found: the lighting was low, making the store look less than sparkling clean. There was very little stock. Many shelves were empty.What stock existed seemed to be stock sent north because it failed to sell in American Target stores. I don’t know if that really happened, but Canadian Target stock looked like it had been remaindered from elsewhere, right down to one price tag slapped onto another price tag. People who didn’t like being the target of remaindered goods left and didn’t go back.The stock that was available was priced significantly higher than it should have been. A lot of people were insulted by the impression that Target was using Canada as a dumping ground for undesirable, unsold stock and being asked to pay a premium. So they didn’t go back.Zellers employees were told they would have equal employment in the new store when it re-opened, but that didn’t happen. Canadian employees were laid off and not recalled. Canadians didn’t like this. Some people never entered the store because Target employment practices were suspect and un-Canadian.Target assumed that the Canadian market was the same as the American market; they did no research at all on Canadian culture. That was a problem.Target knew nothing about their Canadian market.I went to a store a few days after the Grand Opening and the whole place looked shabby. Cheap stuff was expensive, employees were guarding the change rooms as though there was gold in there, and entire areas of the store had no stock at all.Meh.Edit.
