PDF Editor FAQ

What’s the most unusual item landlords have found left behind after someone moved out?

I rented my home for 8 months.I immediatley got calls about police visits, fighting, parties, and questionable ambulance calls. After having junk cars towed and evicting 4 people not on the rental agreement, then the couple who violated every single agreement in the lease agreement, I entered my home even worse that it was when I began restoration.Abandoned dogs, poop and pee stains in every room, dope needles, literally hundreds of cheap liquor bottles, and had to tow an old RV out of my yard.Never imagined so much damage could be done to a solid 110 yr old home barely 900 square feet. How do you squeeze 6 adults and 1 baby into a then 1 bedroom cottage home?Took 6 months alone to gut out the trash and get the yard looking decent. Another 3 months to restore the original floors. They even broke the toilet!I adopted 2 of the 6 dogs they abandoned and burned everything that wasnt nailed down. They DESTROYED ALL the appliances I left them.

If I have a written lease agreement and lease an RV from my brother, can he just come take it without notice?

Depends, I’ve never dealt with an RV lease, but that would fall more with repossession laws than real estate laws.but at the end, he had to give you notice that you were in some sort of violation, you just can’t take something without following the law on how to get it back.

What happened to the ships the United States gave Britain during WW2?

HMS Campbeltown rammed the dry-dock at St. Nazaire, France, in March 1942. Her bows were packed with explosives timed to go off after the ship had been evacuated (they exploded the next day killing over 360 germans and putting the dry dock out of action for the rest of the war).I’ll not repeat Wes Frank’s excellent answer on the ‘Bases for Destroyers” deal, except to add that many of the 50 flush decker destroyers purchased from the USN were converted to long range anti-submarine escorts and some were transferred to allied nations (Poland, Norway and the USSR) as new ships became available. One of these venerable destroyers, HMS Campbeltown (formerly USS Buchanan), was very famously used to ram and blow up the dry dock at St. Nazaire in 1942 as part of ‘Operation Chariot’, the most successful commando raid on occupied Europe. The damage put the largest dry dock on the Atlantic seaboard out of action for the duration of the war[1][1][1][1] . In the 1980s, the Royal Navy named a Type 22 Frigate in her honour. The most recent HMS Campbeltown escorting the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the 1990s. Named in honour of the former USS Buchanan, she supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.Apart from the WW1 vintage flush decker destroyers, which were traded for bases, the Royal Navy received 36 new build Avenger, Long Island and Bogue class escort carriers and around 36 Everts and 46 Buckley-class destroyer escorts, in addition to a few submarines and PT boats and a large number of smaller support vessels such motor launches and yard minesweepers under lend-lease. The lend-lease destroyer escorts sank an impressive total of 36 U-boats and some were used as command ships for MTBs during the Normandy landings. US yards also built 21 colony-class frigates for the Royal Navy to a British design under the lend-lease agreement.HMS Stayner, a Buckley class Destroyer Escort supplied to the Royal Navy as lend-lease in 1943. She was used to command a flotilla of Motor Torpedo Boats in the English Channel. Lend-lease destroyer escorts sank 36 U-boats in RN service.Of those lend-lease ships which survived the war (two carriers and six escorts were sunk, mostly by U-boats), all were returned to the US Navy in 1945. On return to the USA most were either scrapped or sold into merchant service (the escort carriers were built on C3 merchant hulls and could be reconverted into merchant ships). One of the escort carriers, HMS Reaper (USS Winjah) was used briefly by the USN for ‘Project Lusty’, which transported captured Luftwaffe ‘secret weapons’ (aircraft and rockets), back to the USA for analysis. One destroyer escort, HMS Hotham, was retained and served as a floating power station for Singapore post-war. Her loan to the RN was extended under the 1950s Mutual Defence Assistance Programme and she was later used as a trials ship for marine gas turbines.Dixmude, the former lend-lease carrier HMS Biter, in French service in 1957. After she was returned to the USN she was loaned to France from 1945–65.Another escort carrier, HMS Biter, was lent to France by the USA after Britain handed her back. The French Marine Nationale commissioned her as the Dixmude, equipped her with a squadron of Douglas Dauntless dive bombers and used her in SE Asia from 1945–49, and then as a helicopter carrier after a refit in 1952. On return to the USN from France in 1965, Dixmude/Biter was converted into an accommodation ship, and then expended as a target in 1966. Britain also lent the French Navy one of her own home built escort carriers at the same time, which was used by the MN as an aircraft transport during the war in Indo-China.RV Calypso at Montreal in 1980 (formerly HMS J-826, was built in Seattle and returned to the USN at Malta in 1945). Captain Cousteau’s vessel became a TV personality in the 1960s and 70s.One ship that became a TV personality originated as a lend-lease vessel provided to the Royal Navy. The Research Vessel Calypso, operated by French oceanographic researcher and scuba diving pioneer Captain Jaques Cousteau. The ship served in the Royal Navy at Malta from 1943–45 before return to the USN. The USN laid her up in Malta until she was bought by the British drinks magnate Loel Guinness for use by the Cousteau Foundation, who leased her from Guinness for a nominal 1 franc a year. The Calypso was damaged in Singapore harbour in 1997 and languished in Marseille slowly deteriorating for many years. The Cousteau Foundation has been trying to get her restored in La Rochelle and now Turkey, but has found finance a problem - I’m not certain but I think the Maltese government has stepped in to help the restoration project. The modern HMS Biter, named for her lend-lease forebear, is the Manchester and Salford University cadet training vessel.Footnotes[1] Facts About The Greatest Raid of All: The St Nazaire Raid[1] Facts About The Greatest Raid of All: The St Nazaire Raid[1] Facts About The Greatest Raid of All: The St Nazaire Raid[1] Facts About The Greatest Raid of All: The St Nazaire Raid
