Is it legal to have an unregistered off-the-grid (no birth certificate) baby in the USA?

I was actually roommates with someone in College whose parents decided to have him “off-grid”. Let me just say this: Stop even entertaining the idea of having a baby off-grid. It really makes your child’s life unnecessarily hard and your kid will forever resent you for putting that pain on them.I’ll get into the details in a moment, but first let me address the question proposed above. Yes, technically speaking it is not a crime to have your baby off-the-grid in the U.S.A. However, a lot of details surrounding the event would be illegal. First of all, any licensed midwife or doctor is required by law to file a birth certificate or they actually risk losing their license and getting a misdemeanor. If you forced them or threatened them to not file the birth certificate that would make you a likely accomplice and would not go over well with the authorities. But let’s ignore that for a moment and just assume you know how to birth a child on your own and can do it in your basement without any professional medical physician there to oversee you (which would be the only way you could pull this off). In this case you wouldn’t get thrown in jail for failing to get a birth certificate and no crime would have been committed. However you just set up a very difficult life for your child. These are some of the things I was told from by my roommate who didn’t have a social security number until he was 20 years old.No, he could not get a (legal) jobQuite literally he didn’t qualify to get even a job at McDonalds. If you remember the last job you got no matter how prestigious or demeaning it was, you had to fill out a bunch of paperwork. Most of these forms require you to have a SSN (social security number) to properly fill them out. However the important one is the form labeled I-9. This form is required to be submitted by every employer after hiring a new employee. This form serves only one purpose, to determine that you are eligible to work in the United States. Your child (and my roommate) would not be able to complete this form which every employer must get filled out before starting employment with a new employee. Your child will not be able to get a job because of this.Yes, he can evade paying taxes.Okay, so this sounds like a perk I guess. But my roommate did not have to pay taxes. The government basically didn’t know he existed, so they never knew he was not paying. But then again he didn’t have a job. So would you rather have a job and pay some taxes or not ever be able to work except under the table for below minimum wage? Given that choice, taxes sound pretty awesome! Keep in mind that this also means your child is not eligible for any tax benefits or credits such as those that students get while going to college. No, You as the parent can not claim him as a dependent on your taxesYou’re already dealing with a child, wouldn’t it be great to get that child tax credit? Every year you'll basically be paying out of pocket for deciding not to get them a SSN.Yes, he can attend public school through 12th gradeHe would be able to attend school through high school without a social security number. No, he can not attend collegeWhile high school and lower education is okay, your child will never be able to attend collegeYes, he can go to the doctorThe doctor will still see your child and provide him his shots. However…No, he will not be covered under your family insurance (or qualify for Medicare/Medicaid)So you’ll need to plan on paying for all doctor appointments out of pocket. No, he can not travel abroad (even to Canada)You’d best hope none of your child’s friends decide to go to Cancun for spring break. Your child will not be eligible to leave the country or return to the US if he manages to leave (unless he plans to climb Trump’s wall)No, he will not be able to drive a carOkay, well nothing is stopping him from physically driving a car, but he would not be able to get a driver’s license and thus, can not LEGALLY drive. Hope he doesn’t get pulled over. No, he will not be able to voteOnce old enough he will not be able to register to vote.Yes, he can avoid the draftWell the good news is that like taxes, he can skirt the requirement to join the draft when he turns 18.No, he can’t get a loanThis means no credit cards, no car loan, no home, nothing. I’m sure plenty of people will claim these are all evil anyway, but these have powerful impacts on someone’s life. There might be times he needs it. (and when used properly none of these are bad things). No, he will not have a credit scoreThis goes with the above one, but he will not be able to work on this which affects your entire life/future. This also will disqualify him from renting most homes or apartments he is looking at.Basically your child will be treated as an illegal immigrant. Why put them through this when they are entitled to the benefits that the United States provides its citizens? There are people in other countries dying to get what your child is entitled to and you are (considering) denying your child those abilities? It just doesn’t make sense.Get them a SSN and if your child decides at 20 that he wants to live off-the-grid than he can burn his Social Security Card and go in the woods and hide from the government. But don’t be selfish enough to make that decision for them.My roommate resents his parents for not giving him a SSN. While all his friends in high school were driving, he couldn’t. While his friends go to Cancun for spring break, he had golden handcuffs in the U.S. and can’t leave. And worst of all he said was that while all his friends were earning money from jobs in high school, he couldn’t get a job.The job part was the hardest for him. He couldn’t leave the house or move out when he turned 18. He was stuck at home.Him working on getting a social security number was difficult and took him two years. He started when he turned 18 to get one once he realized he couldn’t go to college, he couldn’t get a job, he couldn’t rent an apartment, and thus will never really be able to be independent from his parents. It took two years and then at 20 he was able to get one and start working and going to school. He forever resented his parents. Don’t be those parents…

What is the youngest age someone can graduate high school?

Imagine a young boy, attending high school and getting his high school diploma by the age of 6.Michael Kevin Kearney was the youngest high school graduate, ever in the history of man kind.Kearney was a gifted Child Prodigy (a Child Prodigy is when a person under the age of ten produces meaningful output in some domain (or field of study) equivalent to the level of an adult expert). By the age of four months old, Kearney said his first words. By six months old, he said to his paediatrician, “I have a left ear infection.” It left his parents and his paediatrician speechless. He then learned how to read by the age of 10 months old. When Kearney was four-years-old, he was given a multiple-choice diagnostic tests from Johns Hopkins, for the precocious math program; where he did not studied for the exam, scored a perfect score. Damn.By the age of 5, he attended San Marin High School in Novato, California, for one year, where he graduated high school at the age of six (6) in 1990.After graduating high school, Kearney attended University of South Alabama. In 1994, Kearney graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology by the age of 10. TEN Y’ALL.He is widely known for the Guinness World Record certification as the World's Youngest College Graduate, and youngest high school graduate—a title he still holds till this day.So I guess you can say that the youngest age to graduate high school is the age of 6.Cheers,— Britney VuImage Michael K source. | School logo | Michael Kearney - Wikipedia

What are the issues of being raised and educated in a "Chinese way"?

My 7-year-old son is coloring a picture at a training agency.I am a Chinese mother and my son is 7 seven years old. He was born in Beijing and studies at the Primary School affiliated to China Agricultural University now. He is being raised and educated in a Chinese manner, or to be more accurate, a typical Beijing way.My son is having an online Chinese class at home on a summer vacation day.Selecting a safe infant milk powderAfter my son was born, the first issue I had to resolve was to select a milk powder, since I had to return to work when he was five months old, so breastfeeding was difficult. That’s the same for most Chinese mothers who go back to work after maternity leave. Parents are cautious about the infant milk powder, particularly after the Chinese milk scandal was exposed in 2008. That year, milk powder for children, produced by Chinese dairy giant Sanlu Group, was contaminated with melamine, a chemical used to make plastics. Many children who were fed with it had fallen ill and the kidney damage led to six fatalities. The incident was a devastating blow to China’s infant formula milk market and boosted the introduction of foreign brands. The incident cause a panic among Chinese parents and they try all means to buy foreign brand milk powder. Over 100 foreign brands have been introduced into China since 2009.After brand comparisons, we chose the German brand Aptamil. Each can of milk powder cost 250 yuan. We first selected the milk powder from a local Germany supermarket, then chose a local express company to deliver them to Beijing customs. Thanks to the Overseas Germany Hunting website. There is random goods inspection at customs. Our packages “escaped” every inspection and it saved money to pay tax. I could not remember how many cans we bought in two years, but it cost about 20,000 yuan in total.Selecting a kindergarten and primary schoolIn China, children begin to receive education at 2 years old. What a sad fact! Parents with children aged 2 set about selecting a proper early-age training class to help with brain development. My husband and I paid no attention to these types of classes, because we believe brain development is natural which doesn’t need extra interference. My husband works at the Institute of Semiconductor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the boy can go to a public kindergarten affiliated to CAS without offering any other certificates. At kindergarten, children are taught to develop good habits. There are other courses such as swimming, Taekwondo, and drawing, speaking for choosing.Parents pay high attention to primary school selection, especially for those who put higher expectation on their children. Because my husband holds the title of post-doctoral from Tsinghua University, the boy is entitled to get enrolled by the Primary School affiliated to China Agricultural University, no matter which district our house is located in. It saved us a lot of trouble. If the child does not have a permanent residence, the parents are required to submit many documents or certificates for their children. Some parents plan the primary school selection two or three years in advance. They sell their big houses in districts outside the fourth of fifth ring road and spend several million yuan to buy a not large one in the so-called “school districts,” a prerequisite for their children to be admitted by better primary schools, such as Zhongguancun No. 1 and No. 2 Middle Schools. If a mother could not list the six best primary schools in Beijing’s Haidian District, she would be mocked. Not heavy at-school studyMy boy started his primary school study on September 1, 2018. On August 28 and 29, the school spent two days to hold training for our parents. It was called a parents’ meeting, but it was a brainwashing. Each speaker, including the headmaster, the dean of study and the class teacher, were all well prepared. They introduced how fierce competition Beijing’s students face and the school’s teaching principles. They emphasized several points: Happy learning is a joke; your child/children are not the clever one, and he/she must study hard; the fundamental purpose of education is to create gaps; extracurricular study is a must. Naturally, the next issue is about the “extracurricular classes.”Textbooks for extracurricular Math classHeavy extracurricular class studyThe school class ends at 3 p.m., Monday–Friday, but this is not the end of a child’s studies. At school gate, some students are picked up by teachers from training agencies and are escorted to after-school classes which offer various options. Students can draw, practice piano, do their homework. Other students will be picked up by their grandparents and sent to different education agencies to learn Olympic math or English. In Beijing, extracurricular classes remain indispensable for each student. The only difference is how many classes a child attends. It is a phenomenon with Chinese characteristics. It is weird if a student has no after-school classes. There are 30 students in the class, and each has two, three or four extracurricular classes and the fee ranges from 5,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan per year. Parents usually have a long-term plan, according to which they choose and arrange the classes. Our family is no exception. My son loves drawing and started drawing at 3 years old. Until now, he has great interest in it and keeps learning drawing.I am told several times that “Math” and “English” are very important. Therefore, my boy attends a Math class at Xue Ee Si, a renowned education school nearby Peking University every Saturday afternoon and learning English in another agency close to Zhongguancun No.2 Primary School. The competition is fierce for both the students and parents. After a year studying, the boy can write down simple English words according to pronunciation, read English picture books, do reading comprehension exercise. And he is excited when solving complicated math problems. I am glad to see all these and all our efforts deserve. In Haidian, a district known for its education and competition, students shoulder great pressure on study, much more than people can imagine. It breaks the rumors that native Beijing children can access to top universities easily, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University. There, parents are always nervous. They are worried their children will get left behind. So, they work hard, to earn more money, only for creating better conditions for the children’s education. Such a fate seems frightening but Beijing parents have no choice but to accept it.
