Why has the Vodafone Idea stock plunged 13% on the AGR hearing on Thursday?

The Supreme Court hearing on Thursday regarding the Vodafone Idea adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case has led to a lot of volatility in the Vodafone Idea stock price. The court adjourned the hearing till June 18. After the hearing, the share price of the telecom major fell 11%, hitting the lower circuit. However, later in the day, the stock closed 13% lower at Rs 9.39 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.Ahead of the hearing, at 12.25 pm on Thursday, Vodafone Idea was trading at Rs. 9.74 on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The price was 10% lower from its previous close. At the same time, the benchmark Sensex was down 0.85% at 33956.67. After the hearing, the stock hit further.According to the Department of Telecommunications estimate, the company owns over Rs. 58,254 crores. Out of this amount, the company has paid Rs. 6,354 crores. As per the DoT, the company still owes a whopping Rs. 53,000 crore which includes interests and penalties for non-payment of the statutory dues. However, the company claims the dues to be Rs. 21,500 crore. The Supreme Court had earlier criticised the self-assessment of AGR dues by the company, therefore it is likely that the final verdict will be in favour of the DoT’s figure. The court asked the company to file the affidavits in 5 days as to how they are proposing to clear the above dues. Vodafone Idea pleaded before the court that the amount is huge and currently they are not in the position to file the affidavits in the time mentioned. The company further mentioned that they do not have enough funds to even pay the salaries of their employees or meet other expenses and therefore need more time. Now the further course of action will depend on whether the apex court permits Vodafone Idea staggered payments i.e. payment in instalments over the next 20 years or more. According to the Supreme Court, the staggered payments over 20 years cannot be done without any security. To this, the company expressed its inability to provide the bank guarantee for the same.Because of the above case, the Vodafone Idea stock plunged 13% on Thursday after AGR hearing.

What are your thoughts on President Trump seeking to appoint Sidney Powell as special counsel to investigate his loss in the 2020 U.S. presidential election?

Just when I started hoping that with the vote of the presidential electors this week that we had perhaps reached the peak of crazy, Donald Trump is talking about naming his former attorney and certified Bat Shirt Crazy™ conspiracy theorist, Sidney Powell (also attorney for Michael Flynn), as a special counsel to investigate the 2020 election. On the surface (and I mean the oil slick surface) one notes that Powell has been a federal prosecutor in the past, but seriously, the ghost of Hugo Chávez flipping votes across the Internet of things[1][1][1][1] with a supercomputer?More seriously, Powell made false statements in her Kraken lawsuit, and included a affidavit that is a lie (a solid factual falsehood), which makes her either complicit in perjury or inexcusably negligent in vetting the material she submitted to the court in a complaint she signed. See: Open letter to Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.President Trump himself cannot appoint a special counsel; that would be the job of acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen, a 2019 Trump appointee with no previous experience as a prosecutor.Footnotes[1] Exhibit Affidavit Redacted Affidavit of Cyber-Security Expert – #1, Att. #9 in Pearson v. How on Earth could a "Voter ID" be contentious in any way?

When you were born, a doctor filled out two birth certificates. One was given to your parents. The other was given to the state records office. If you should ever lose your birth certificate, you can apply to the state records office, pay a small fee, and a new birth certificate will be issued to you.But if your family is poor, with no car and no phone, living in a rural area with no ambulance service and no hospital or clinic within twenty miles, it is very likely you were born in a bedroom of your apartment. No doctor in attendance. NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE ISSUED OR FILED WITH THE STATE.Without a birth certificate, you cannot get a Voter ID. You could use your driver’s license, but you cannot get a driver’s license without a birth certificate. You could use your passport, but you cannot get a passport without a birth certificate. In some states, you can use your Social Security card. But guess what. You cannot get a Social Security card without a birth certificate. To obtain a birth certificate, years after the fact, requires lawyers and a judge. It requires sworn affidavits from family. In an increasing number of cases, it requires several DNA tests. It can cost tens of thousands of dollars to get a birth certificate if one was never issued. If you’re poor, you cannot afford that money, nor the time off work.It is estimated that 11% of American citizens do not have the documentation necessary to get a Voter ID. Most of them are poor. Many are minority. Voter ID laws are preventing American citizens from voting.Voter ID laws combat in-person voting fraud. It is the least common, and least effective form of voting fraud. Less than 0.001% of votes are even suspected to be the result of in-person voting fraud.Voter ID laws solve a problem that barely exists. But they prevent 11% of the population from exercising their rights as American citizens. If a law is not solving any real problems, but is, in fact, causing a significant problem, that is a matter of concern for many, many people.Conservative political groups have spent millions of dollars trying to push Voter ID laws. Is it just a coincidence that the people prevented from voting by these laws usually vote for Democrats? There are other forms of voter fraud that are much more prevalent. Conservatives don’t seem concerned about actual voter fraud. Voter ID laws do nothing about those other forms. Conservatives are not proposing a single law to combat any of the more prevalent forms of voter fraud. What could be the point of pushing for laws that are ineffective in their stated purpose, but directly impact the voting rights of poor minority voters?
