PDF Editor FAQ

My mom is crazy, and my dad is getting remarried on Sunday, but I haven't told my mom yet. What do I do?

When my step son was 12 years old I married his father. His mother was legit crazy (cluster B narcissistic personality disorder). I’ve been with my husband since my stepson was 5 years old, so this was not a new relationship, or a quick rush in marriage. However from the day I met my stepsons mother, she has hated me, and has done everything possible to interfere with our lives, including badmouthing me and husband in front of him on every conversation they had. My husband and her were never married. In fact, they had only dated a month or two before he realized she was crazy and broke things off. Unfortunately, she was already knocked up by then. I truly believe she got pregnant on purpose to try and trap my husband, and when it didn’t work, she did everything possible to interfere with his custody time, relationships, etc. but let’s get back on track. After fighting for custody for several years, and the awful court system that doesn’t recognize emotional abuse as abuse, we shared custody 50/50 during his youth. When we requested our vacation time so he could attend (and be in) our destination wedding, she did everything she could to stop it. In the end, we had to pay an additional 6k just to get a judge to force her to sign the passport document, and allow him to go on our week long vacation, despite the court order already stating we’re entitled to two weeks vacation a year. A few months after the wedding, we decided to relocate to our home town to be close to family (as we had 2 other small children of our own, and it was hard living so many states away with no family). After another 30k in court costs, we were awarded primary physical custody and my stepson was able to move with us, but his mother did everything in her power to stop it. 3 months after we moved, she relocated herself to another state (despite all her arguements as to why she and my stepson needed to stay in that area)The point of all this is: how crazy is she? Is she going to interfere with the wedding and cause drama? Are you a minor that’s going to get sucked into her controlling and manipulative behavior like my step son did? If so, I’d ask your dad to be the one to notify her, and also consider getting primary custody of you. I know it’s expensive and time consuming, but it’s not healthy to be around toxic people, especially if they’re your parents. However, if you’re close with your mom and genuinely concerned about her emotional well-being, and by crazy you mean that she may be sensitive to the issue and extremely upset, then I’d recommend breaking it to her gently, and let her know you are there to support her and spend time with her. I think it all just depends on the definition of crazy, and your age of course. My husband and I have been married for 4 years now, and as of a year ago my stepson no longer visits his mother. He still talks to her on the phone a few times a month, however most conversations end up being terminated by him as she continues to badmouth us, his siblings, and him. As a mother I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to not have a relationship with my children, or my own mother, but I also did not grow up crazy or with a crazy mother. I know it must hurt my stepson that he doesn’t have a good relationship with his own mother, but he couldn’t be a better, happier kid now that he doesn’t have to put up with that emotional abuse on a daily basis. Good luck dealing with your mother, hopefully she isn’t as crazy as what I presume.Edit: thanks for all the upvotes. Let me say, things have only improved in our lives. My SS hasn’t spoken to his BM in years, but is perfectly content in his life. He is 5 months shy of turning 18, and even though BM still calls the school, drs, dentists, etc, to make sure he’s being seen and grades are up to par, Everyone in our life finally understands that she doesn’t matter, so his appts get scheduled as needed without her involvement, grades and school work are worked on regardless her interaction, and he’ll continue to play sports even though she’s told the coach he’s had a phantom injury for the past 4 years. 😢 I’m just so grateful he doesn’t have to answer to her on a daily basis.

I've turned 18 and my minor passport has expired. What procedure should I follow?

Passports are not renewed. A new passport is issued on expiry of the old one.Your case is the same. Apply for and obtain a new passport. For this open the online passport site . Fill it as per instructions therein. Schedule and attend your appointment with the regional passport office. Take all original documents with you when attending the appointment. Not a big issue. But I personally advice you to go to the local courts and get the online form.filled by a person dealing in this line. I fear that if you go about it by yourself then you may make a mistake in its filling which may hamper your interests more than what you may save from professional advice.Disclaimer: above is not a legal advice to constitute a client attorney relationship between us.
