PDF Editor FAQ

What's a good way to show articles you've written?

My chief method is LinkedIn, where I post special-purpose short articles as examples in my profile.Since I’ve written literally hundreds of articles for others (ghost writing), and hundreds more under my by-line, it’s impractical to put them all on a website. However, I could (and you could) create a free WordPress website specifically to showcase your articles. For not much money, you can get a hosted custom URL such as http://KathiKalinowski.com and present your portfolio. Try GoDaddy and Network Solutions.WordPress offers lots of attractive and functional free themes for the purpose. As a freelance writer, I hand-select from my writing samples for each proposal. But I’ve been thinking about the WordPress solution. Instead of attaching PDF files to my proposals, I could simply include clickable titles. Good idea?

Sometimes entrepreneurs like to buy already established websites that they can use for their own businesses. If you can build a WordPress blog and start getting traffic to it, then you can sell it and make money for your efforts. This requires knowing the type of websites in demand, and how to price and sell them. There are websites like Flippa that serve as auction sites and brokers for selling websites.7- Sell Ebooks on WordPressEbooks are an obvious choice for creating digital products. They are relatively simple to write and produce. If you’ve been blogging for a while, then you can collect some of your old blog posts and turn them into chapters of a book.Once your book is written, you can design a cover using a tool like Canva and create a PDF of your ebook.8- Sell Online CoursesSelling an online course is another great way to make money online.Courses usually sell for a much higher price point than ebooks. You can charge a premium for your expertise. You’ll need to create the lessons for your course, plus any supporting materials that you want to include such as downloads, slides, checklists, templates, etc.You will also need to decide whether you want to offer personalized support for your course. Some sites offer two tiers of each course: a basic version without support, and a premium version with email support.Once your course is ready, you can use a learning management system (LMS) plugin to deliver the course to your audience.I would recommend using LearnDash or MemberPress.9-Sell WordPress ThemesIf you enjoy web design and development, you could start creating your own WordPress themes to sell. This requires both design and technical skills. You can sign up for free and start testing websites. You can make $10-$15 for every test that may take around 15-20 minutes or so.12- Design LogosI still continue to be amazed by the phenomenon made possible with the Internet. It seems like there are hundreds and hundreds of new businesses coming online on a daily basis. While this intensifies as competition, it also creates business opportunities for others – for example, people who are well-versed in designing logos (the conventional thinking is that every business needs a logo). So, if you are good at the creative stuff, it is an excellent time to start a new business catering to this need. This is one business that truly cuts across industries, so naturally, the upside is tremendous.A great place to find log design projects is DesignCrowd.13- CPA MarketingIf you find affiliate marketing tough to handle, then CPA or Cost Per Action may be a more suitable option. If the person who heads to the merchant’s site through your links commits to a specified action, like agreeing to receive newsletters, opting for email updates, taking a poll or whatsoever the merchant can think of, you will be entitled to a commission. In that sense, the commission scheme is not solely dependent on sales, so this CPA marketing idea surely has an upside about it.You no longer have to wait for your prospects to come to a buying decision before you are assured of your commission. At the same time, the challenge to entice people for their purchase is far greater than getting people to think about whether opting for free things or not!Sign up with a few good CPA networks, find a few good offers to promote and start your journey.14- Upload filesOnline sharing is not just restricted to photography. You can do the same thing with documents and files, as you do with images. There are some sites that specialize in file sharing and it is entirely up to you as to what files you are willing to share. If your files are deemed useful enough and get downloaded, you will make some commission. These sites do not specify the kind of format required to be associated with your files. But in order to broaden the appeal of your files, you may want to output your files in the most popular formats, like Microsoft Word or Acrobat PDF, for example.Try DocStoc if you are interested.15- Re-Write Poorly Written Ads on eBayOnline marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay are full of ads listing all sorts of merchandise. Pick on those big-ticket items like cars and study their ads.If you are confident of improving their ads, write to them and propose that you will rewrite these ads at a fee.The acceptable going rate now is 1% commission on sales.16- Join a Revenue Sharing ForumIf it is just your nature to want to participate in online forums or you have been a member anyway in any forum, you can use this to great effect.Watch out for “Ad Share” symbol in your user CP. This refers to a sharing program where forum owners would not mind sharing with their members the revenue they earn from ads that pop up in their forums. In fact, increasingly more online forums, such as webmasters.org, are in two these “Ad Share” programs. You have so far chosen to be busy at the forum, why not trade your time with some real money that you can spend.17- Sell Ready-Made WebsitesIf you would rather sit aside and quietly built quality websites, why not turn your passion into a vocation. It is certainly a decent financial proposition as hundreds of new businesses coming online every day. With fantastic and user-friendly software like Kompozer available free, it certainly takes the cost and pain out of website design.Or, you could take advantage of open source CMS like WordPress too quickly and easily build professional looking websites.18- Get Paid To TweetIf you’re active on Twitter and have a lot of followers, then this gig is for you.PaidPerTweet is the site that you can sign up with for free and earn money by tweeting messages from their advertisers to your followers. The pay varies from a few dollars to upwards of thousands of dollars per tweet.Obviously, the more well-known you are and the more reach you have, the more are paid for each tweet.19- Get Paid To ClickThis is one of the oldest and most famous ways of earning pennies online.I don’t really recommend this since the amount of money you earn for spending so much time clicking on links is just too little to make this worthy of your time. But since this post is about available money making options, I am including it here.Basically, you are paid pennies for clicking on ad links. The page opens up and you keep it open for a few seconds and you earn your cash. Not much work, but not much earning potential either. If you’re interested, check out Clixsense.20- Answer Professional QuestionsAre you a professional in a field that can help answer questions for people looking for your expertise?Websites like JustAnswer and LivePerson match you up with people looking for answers to technical or professional questions. You can make money online by simply answering these questions and providing the right information to people based on their individualistic circumstances.Depending on your area of knowledge, you could either make a lot of money or just a little bit by answering questions professionally.Do your due diligence before signing up to any website where you're providing answers in exchange for money and be sure that it's a reputable source.21- Make Video Tutorials on YouTubeThis is certainly a long term technique, and you won't get rich overnight by doing this, yet making engaging and well-thought-out video tutorials and posting them on sites like YouTube could make you a lot of easy revenue in the long term depending upon exactly how generally welcomed those videos may be.Discover a specialty or niche and stick to it. Fabricate a YouTube channel and discover something that you can do that will add a whole lot of value to the people that might be interested in that field or niche. However, keep in mind that this will require a significant amount of time and upfront investment before this pays off at all.Why So Many Money Making Ideas? This is just a list of opportunities and possibilities. A list of what’s out there. I just wanted to include different options so anyone could find a few that fit their skills, interest, and lifestyle. The main reason of this post is to create a resource for everyone.Bottom Line:Please keep in mind that until you take action and do some work, you won’t make any money, no matter how many articles or posts like this one you read.Remember, the online world may be a virtual one, but there is nothing virtual about the money you can make from it.

What is the step by step process of delivering a website to client as a fresh new web developer?

I'll keep it simple for you and assume that the website is relatively simple. If you are a larger web development company, you might have different people handling the different stages depending on their expertise.Consultation. While it is ideal if the client knows exactly what they want and provides a written request detailing their expectations, this is rarely the case. Often they will need help defining their expectations, and may also want your ideas how to make their website stand out. Especially when it comes to content for SEO, clients typically don't know how to reach their ideal audience on the web, and they rely on your expertise. If you are working with a team, you might want to gather as much info from the client as you can, then have a quick discussion with your team before responding.Research. Yes, you should do research. Many developers consider themselves experts at what they do, so they fail to do more research. Even after 20 years, I allocate time for research on every project. Technology changes regularly and I want to be on top or ahead of it. And I treat each project, even simple ones, as unique. I want to make sure I match the very best tools for the client's needs.Proposal. You should write a detailed proposal outlining exactly what the client responsibilities are and what you will provide. While it could include options, the proposal really should sell your recommended solutions. Remember, it could be used to compare both cost and solution recommended by another developer or company. Your only insurance here is to make sure that your really do provide the best solution, and you can be confident in that if you have done your due diligence in research (2 above). The details in the proposal help the client see that they are comparing apples and oranges if they are just comparing cost. On a number of larger projects, I've even spent up to 30 hours building a working demo of the proposed website. For smaller ones, you can provide a PDF with some design ideas. These are meant to visually entice the client to work with you.Design. Once the proposal is accepted, it's off to the design stage. A design can send PDF files back and forth to narrow down exactly how they want the website to appear. If someone else is doing the design, I want the designer to send the proofs past the developer(s) before they go to the client in case there is anything which might go beyond the proposal on the development side. When the design is finally approved, it usually goes to the (front-end) developer(s) in parts, sometimes a mix of an InDesign package, AI and PSD files, PDF's and Jpegs. A front end developer should be able to handle pretty much any layout file type given to them, so I leave it up to the design to choose what is easiest for them.Local Development. I almost always develop the first version of a website or app locally using MAMP & MAMP PRO. Nearly every small to mid size business website I build utilizes a CMS as well, typically Wordpress for content based websites, Joomla for websites with online services and significant data processing requirements, and Magento for product based websites and ecommerce. To streamline the process, I have starting versions pre-built in MAMP which I can duplicate. They have the essential stack of plugins and frameworks installed which I use with nearly every project. I also have my own local stack of tools I've built to help automate and streamline the development process. My local system is setup for rapid development. If you have a larger team, your "local" system would be a shared system for your development team. Smaller projects rarely require more than one developer, so really local environments work fine.Live Testing. Once the development is finished, it might need to be transferred to a proofing area. Or your local development environment might have a method for live proofing. Ultimately, it's going to have to be tested in the production server environment, so I prefer to make a testing environment there for the first proof and future major updates. I want to catch any glitches on the website before the client does, so I proof it thoroughly myself, and I have at least one other person proof it, before I have the client proof it. I rarely get many revisions at this stage, but if I do, they will need to be finished and the site approved before taking it live.Finishing Touches. This is the stage at which I take care of everything needed on the site for maintenance, security and digital marketing. I make sure all the software is up to date. I'll make sure there is a backup system. I might add a soft firewall and customize the htaccess. I'll make sure any form processing is secured with Recaptcha and Akismet anti-spam. I'll put the site on a CDN and optimize it for SEO. I'll setup Google Analytics for tracking visits. I might automate some monthly analytics reporting to send to the client. The finishing touches are those added value elements which I would expect from a professional developer and are often missed by "fresh new developers" or primarily front end developers.Followup. To me, a website is a marketing tool, not a product. It serves a purpose. And if we have setup the Analytics well, its purpose has measurable goals. Followup is essential to analyze and report how well the website is achieving its marketing goals. It can also indicate potential revisions required to optimize visitor engagement, conversions, and content optimization for search positioning. I don't want to bang out websites and move on. I want to develop a relationship with the client so that they involve me in their digital marketing strategies. I also want them to understand that a website is software which needs regular updates and maintenance in order to maintain security, and manual checks for potential breaches. I have invested a lot of time into building the website, and I want the client to understand that I want the website to be successful for them. So followup and digital marketing is extremely import for my web development process. Ideally, I want to add enough value that I can create a client for life, and that the website is merely a small introduction to my services, support, and our relationship.I didn't include payment in the above list. Typically, I ask for the industry standard 50% down before the design stage. This is partly because some of the software might cost, and the designer typically wants to get paid for their creative concepts whether or not they get used in the final production site. The remaining 50% I get after the live proof is approved. They might also have agreed to monthly plans for continued work on the site, for SEO, and for digital marketing.

I like that basically all you need to do is read over the contract and sign it. It couldn't be easier, and then you have a record of what you have signed for legal purposes.
