The calculator is very good at using ITERATIVE equations.Basically this means you enter a number into the equation, the calculator works out an answer and puts the answer back into the same equation over and over until the answers that come out are the same (probably to 10 significant figures)The Newton Raphson method does this and “calculators may well use this actual method but if not it will be a very similar method.Using this iterative formula we can find root 2 correct to as many decimal places as you like!I just did 3 iterations and already the answer is correct to 6 significant figures.Your calculator would do more calculations than the above and give you an answer to the square root of any number N that you type and it will take only thousandths of a second.(NB Your calculator would do this for any number, even perfect squares!)
