My squad has following roles2 Close Assault experts, medic and DMR expert and Sniper expert.Here one of the Assault expert is an Alpha who gives all the commands.Sniper expert provides information of the nearby or incoming enemy.Medic should handle DMR properly coz he/she might help in both the ways as a medic and as a mid to long range fight.Assault expert : M249, DP-28, M762, MK14(Auto mode) and Groza, the Over Powered weapons are used by Assault experts. They should always have the level 3 loot because that might help them in close combat.Sniper expert : KAR98K, M24 and AWM, the long range weapons are used by sniper experts. Ghillie suit is mainly used by Snipers coz that might help them to Snipe targets undetected.Medic and DMR expert : they are the helping hands in the game. Being a medic they should always have spare boosters and health kits with them. Added with the title DMR expert they should be marksman in DMRs. SLR, Mini14, SKS and VSS.The reason why medic should handle DMRs well because a little help can mean a lot to the whole squad….Hope this helps.

More importantly, why have such a divergence in platforms, one being an AK and one being an AR platform?For that, we need to understand what's really changed in the Indian Army over the past 4-5 years.The Protagonist-The role and scope of the Indian military has rapidly changed. General Bipin Rawat, the ex-chief of the Indian Army is a seasoned warrior, but more importantly, he's also an intellectual soldier.He has a BSc, MPhil and a PhD.He also happens to be a graduate of the illustrious US Army Command and General Staff college, where amongst the thousands of officers from around the world that have gone and trained there, he's amongst the 150 most decorated list of officers to have passed out, the likes of which include General Eisenhower and General Patton.He had a question when he took over command of the army- How do I turn a 1.3 million strong behemoth of an army into a leaner, fitter and more maneuverable strike force? A force that doesnt need to match another army soldier for soldier on a battlefield, but rather can take on a force 10 times its size and still come out winning? And more importantly, can I turn this into an expeditionary force that can deploy around the world for peacekeeping and force projection at a moments notice?The solution to all of this was revolutionary?The creation of an Integrated Battle group.What's an Integrated Battle Group?Basically at any point of time, the Indian army is involved in different types of warfare at the same time. There's the threat of a two front conventional war with China and Pakistan, there's a counterinsurgency warfare going on in Kashmir and there are ongoing UN peacekeeping missions around the world.An integrated battle group comprises of different units working under the same command- mechanized infantry, airborne infantry, special forces operators, armored, artillery, signals and intelligence, aviation and reconnaissance, logistics and medical. It's all of the army in brigade sized units which comes under an army corps.It was first introduced in 2017 with the 9 corps in J and K along the Western border and after working out the kinks, it was steamrolled in 2020 as the new way the army will conduct war in the 21st century.It's also the reason you hear news articles like thisIndia-China War: China Has No 'Military Advantage' Over 'Battle-Hardened' Indian Army - CNNBasically, even though the Chinese soldiers outnumber the Indian forces at 6:1 during the buildup, The Indian forces are far more maneuverable and aggressive in their posture with the ability to project force in a far more concerted manner.So you can have 20,000 Indian soldiers face off against even 200,000 Chinese soldiers and the end result will be the same, the Indian army would win because of its mobility and integrated units.This also works for deploying a small sized expeditionary force on quick notice around the world, based on logistical capabilities of the Indian army.So why an AK203 and a Sig Sauer 716 for the infantry?This isnt just change on a macro level, this also means change at a micro level. To have a force multiplying brigade, you need a force multiplying unit at its basic level.Let's understand what that means for the infantryIn the past, a standard infantry soldier of the Indian army carried an INSAS rifle that was chambered for a 5.56 mm round. And it was a standard infantry issue rifle.Which meant that a platoon of infantry soldiers all carried the same weapon and therefore could essential do only one job- fight the enemy at a limited range.The new proposed rule is to convert a standard platoon of the infantry into a force multiplying unit which has the ability to engage the enemy at whichever range it chooses, because the enemy fights on its terms not ours.Which is why a platoon will be broken up into a fire squad, where there will beA designated marksman who can engage the enemy at upto 800 meters and will carry this- the Sig 716 G2 DMR with a magnifying optic.2. A standard infantryman who can engage the enemy at 400-500 meters, who will carry this- The AK203 with a holodot, red dot, ACOG or EOtech optic.3. The designated machine gunner who will field a light machine gun that can provide a suppressive volley of fire at 200-400 meters with this- the IWI Negev with an opticThis is why the Indian army bought the Sig for designated marksmanship, the AK for regular infantry use and the Negev as a light machine gun.Now you'll notice another thing, all these weapon platforms are chambered for the 7.62 mm round. This is because the 7.62 mm round has a far greater stopping force and also better range and accuracy as compared to the 5.56 mm.The only drawback is, its heavier and so with a standard loadout, you generally carry far lesser ammo to fight. But that also means that it takes less bullets to kill or take your enemy out of the fight.One 7.62 mm round fired at a higher muzzle velocity is enough to take the enemy out of the fight.Do other militaries also do the same?The United States has the Brigade Combat Team or BCT which is similar to the IBG, but they're nowhere close to the rollout the Indian army is planning.They too have a fire squad that has a designated marksman firing the M110 rifle, the regular infantryman that carries an M4 and the designated machine gunner that carries the M249 SAW.But as things always go with the US military, while they pioneer, they're also prone to making monumental mistakes that cost them billions of dollars. So far the US is looking to replace the the M249 SAW with something more feasible and accurate and in general is going for a new 6.8 mm round and platforms that can fire them.
