I feel like no one actually looks at material there anymore and is only out for views. I've abandoned hope of making it work.Tumblr is good if you’re a fan-artist. Aside from that it’s very VERY slow and doesn't reap very good results. I've tried this three times. Idk why I thought any of those times would be different.Twitter seems to be working for a lot of people- but you need to be active (just like everywhere else, really) and have your information pinned on your profile. Include commission information, portfolio urls and/or other places to find you. Maybe even a Kofi or Your Creative Toolbox - Commiss.io link.Please don’t use Pinterest for your work. The amount of people stealing there is appalling. If you want furry art communities I’ve got links coming out of my ears. I’m not a furry but furry art sells *very* well. Adoptables also sell like hotcakes there.Aside from these two places you’re going to get smaller, less active communities. It’ll almost seem quiet— maybe dead at some times. They even had a tool to watch all of your friends from furaffinity— if they had already joined (long dramatic story that eventually died down) However, this had the same issue as wysp. Not as bad— but still very quiet and not as many active experienced people there. I do still like their options there compared to other art sites. If you want a quieter place that has neat extra things you may want to start there.Art Workshops | ConceptArt - I do get tired of seeing this link. I personally like to learn and progress at my own speed. For some reason this place makes me feel pressured to get better or get out. That’s my sensitivity though. If you need motivation that’s probably your best bet.ArtStation - I've never actually joined this website. I've only ever heard good things about it. The main thing I hear is that if you want to be commissioned or are looking for work in the art department- you go there. I felt so helpless, though, since I didn't understand foreign languages and translate would always butcher everything. I wanted to connect to other members. While I was there I felt so distant and alien. It was a sad, lonely feeling. Incredible art everywhere to be seen, though. I think they even have an editor.Behance - I've never actually used this. From what I do know about it- it’s a very professional platform and not really hobby/fun oriented. But it’s been around for ages and I’ve never heard anything negative about it.The Internet Pixel Art Gallery - I’m an avid pixel artist and lover of. However this community strikes me more along the lines of what the ConceptArt website seems like to me. They both use editors on their site instead of allowing just any type of media. So this actually has a downloadable editor that isn’t too bad. It’s a lot like ClipartStudio. Obviously you can make your own mangas or you can just draw. I personally loved the mirror brush and I still have the program installed on my desktop. However due to their TOS I refuse to upload anything. I’m not keen on people using my work to advertise for them unless I’m provided some form of compensation.Digital Art Community - ArtRift - I’ve never seen this one before. It doesn’t advertise itself very well on it’s front page so I’m not entirely sure what it’s center is. I’ve seen people do content packages or mail out pins. I’ve seen people take requests only from people who pay or have access to art ages before it’s posted along with WIP files and even the actual PSD they used so you can see how they created the art.Your Creative Toolbox - Commiss.io is my first choice. It’s still being developed but they have a lot of options artists have been craving for ages. One in which is selling projects, folders of content (even photoshop brushes or templates, recipes or directions), specific commissions and more. They’re working on a beta of a site like Patreon that you can sign up for here Commiss.io Subscription TestersHowever if you drop into their discord channel ( Discord - Free voice and text chat for gamers ) you can simply ask if you can have access to the service (at least this is what I’ve been told).Streaming is really popular as well and recently more sites have been popping up to directly cater to artists wanting to share their work processes (other than youtube)Creative live streaming service - Picarto is probably the only “specifically made for art” streaming service I know of. Don’t use a sledgehammer to hammer in a nail.We’ve all dealt with the Nick Burns character that Jimmy Fallon plays on SNL. He’s the uber-computer geek that scoffs at your lack of enthusiasm for the biggest, nerdiest and best technology out there. He wants to set up servers and load up the beefiest database technologies on there to manage any job, big or small. He gets off on nerding out in databases and want to always use his database-sledgehammer no matter how big of a nail you got. He will roll his eyes if you mention Microsoft Access to him.If anyone tells you that Microsoft Access isn’t useful anymore, turn your geek radar on. I’ve been developing with Access for over 20 years and have seen it’s role in technology change. There are things I wouldn’t recommend using Access for but there are plenty of other scenarios where Access would be my first tool to use.Here are five areas where Microsoft Access leads:Small business applications: Access comes with dozens of pre-built database templates for managing employee and customer lists, business inventory, time sheet tracking, finances, budgets, sales, events, and projects. These templates can be used as is but the real magic comes from customizing these databases to the exact needs of your business. Also these templates are free so the only expense is your time customizing the database. No monthly costs for hosted software either. Many people already have Access on their computers and you don’t have to hire a geek to set up a server and load it with database software. There is no setting up needed with Microsoft Access.Custom software applications: When businesses have unique software needs that can’t be fulfilled by off the shelf software they have a choice of hiring a software firm to build them a custom solution costing five figures and more or they can build a custom solution in Access themselves. Access provides forms and reports with automation features to connect with other Office applications like Outlook and Word to automate business tasks. Access can also import and link to data files from other applications to serve the needs of any industry.Data analysis: Much of my job requires me to do data analysis for medical research using small data sets. Small for me is less than 200,000 records. The tools I have loaded on my computer are Excel, Access, SAS, and JMP. Hands down, the tool I use most is Microsoft Access, followed by Excel, SAS, then JMP. Access is great at number crunching. The combination of using queries and writing Visual Basic code lets me summarize, iterate and perform statistics quicker and easier than the other programs I have. (Excel’s Data Ribbon is a fantastic 2nd choice).Personal databases: Most people use Excel or Google Sheets to manage their recipes, contacts, or media collections. These spreadsheet programs do an OK job but if your needs are a little more sophisticated, then you need your spreadsheet tabs to interact with each other which essentially is a Microsoft Access database. The worksheets are tables in Access and sorting and filter in worksheets are saved queries in Access, but even better. Excel doesn’t have reporting or forms that Access provides and you don’t have to worry about losing unsaved data since Access saves entries as they happen. Finally Access has free pre-built database templates to organize recipes, contacts or your book collection.This next bullet is where Microsoft Access’s future shines the brightest.Big Data for small and medium businesses: Big Data is all the rage today. Large corporations who are dealing with millions and millions of records of data employ Data Scientists to manage and mine this data using Hadoop and other similar programs. However, medium and small businesses can rely on Microsoft Access to manage and mine their data. Microsoft’s Office team states: “Access is a great database management solution for small businesses because it makes collecting and storing data accessible on the desktop—without requiring support from an IT administrator. Access enables users to develop business applications, collect and analyze data from multiple sources, and track any kind of data, from a customer contact list to robust asset management.”[1] Microsoft has added data connectors for Salesforce, Amazon Redshift, OData Feed, Dynamics CRM and others. Since I am old, I favor the old-fashioned way: a recipe box. I print my recipes with a Word template on card stock, which allows me to cut them to 3″ by 5″. I also have my recipes organized with tabs by category, i.e., Beef, Cheese, Chicken, Snacks, Italian, etc. You can use whatever categories work for you. Sometimes I print a recipe twice, if I am unsure of the category in which it belongs, just so that I will not have to remember how I originally filed it.I have this great recipe card hold which I made for holding the cards while I am cooking. You cannot misplace the recipe and minimal handling keeps it from getting soiled.
