How was your UPSC CAPF 2019 interview?

I was alloted RN choubey sir board(1984 batch IAS, ex Secretary of ministry of aviations)I was alloted morning shift for the interview. After going in and while waiting for the interview, I drank one redbull to become more alert. I prepared for 2 months for the interview and I left my current job at that time so as to prepare nicely.During this time, I paid special emphasis on reading about the internal security issues of india and how to resolve them. Also I prepared important questions from my DAF. I also gave one mock interview which really helped me in evaluation of some mistakes I was making. Here is my interview transcriptChairman1. What is the meaning of parth? He wanted me to answer in sandhi vicched form.Ans. Parth is someone who never misses his target. Also arjun was called parth. I told him i dont know the exact meaning.2. Are you happy with ur present job?why you want to join Capf?Ans. I told him after my graduation I started preparing for this exam and due to my failure in my first attempt I started working to become financially independent but kept on preparing for this exam. My aim was to clear this exam and my working in that company was only a means to clear this exam so that I can get rid of lot of societal and personal pressure which was effecting my preparation and I also had to wait for 1 year to give my next attempt. As I had almost finished my syllabus by then, I moved to delhi and started working. Also this is my story. I didn't say anything wrong.3. Tell me the mandate of all the capfs?Ans. I gave detailed insight about the mandate of all the central armed police forces viz bsf, crpf, itbp, ssb, cisf. These forces have a clear mandate to maintain the internal security of India.4. Why don't govt outsource the work of cisf to private agencies as we are wasting so much in salaries. He also gave examples of many countries who are following this.Ans. I told him that cisf is protecting the crucial government infrastructure like Isro, metro, airport, Psu, in which government has invested lakhs of crores of rupees, so the private sector will be very risky and not accoutable. He again asked me to think and answer again. I said sir we can try doing it with psu and can seriously examine its functionality but I don't think we should even think about airport, nuclear installation, isro, metros etc as we will not have the same accountability of things in private sector as we can have through the elitist of all, the mighty Cisf.4. Why do we need to spend so much money on itbp if we already have army? Why don't army protect india china border?Ans. I said sir it is an international convention that paramilitary forces are deployed to protect border during peace time. Even china has deployed chinese paramilitary force on the indo china border and people ‘s liberation army is stationed behind them . Deployment of army in the border will be an act of agression. Army, navy, airforce are the part of indian military which has the mandate to protect India from foreign agression while Capf are tasked with the responsibility to maintain the internal security of india and work in close coordination with the state police.5. Tell me the recent bilateral agreements between India- srilanka?Ans. India with the help of japan is helping srilanka in ports development especially columbo port. I said they also have agreements on anti piracy, joint surveillance. Then I started talking about the strategic aspect of having good relationship with srilanka and also about the srilanka - china issue with respect to Chinese investments and Sri Lanka leasing hambantota port to china but the chairman told me to strictly talk about their bilateral agreements.Member 2He said he didn't want to ask any questions.Member 31. You were cricket captain of your University. How do you motivate them?Ans I gave them few examples of my experience as captain. I told him the importance of boosting morale of ur players, to give them proper direction etc. Here he told me suppose we are your team, now motivate us in the same way you do it with your team. I tried doing then he interrupted and said, Is this the way you talk to your players? Seriously. I was shocked but confidently said yes sir.2. Do you know about virappan?Ans. Yes he was a smuggler who operated between tamilnadu kerala border.3. So why the paramilitary wasn't able to catch him after struggling so much amd finally TN stf was able to catch him. He asked whether paramilitary is needed at all for internal security?Ans. I told him the capability and efficiency of police of different states is different and we cannot compare police of Tn or kerela to that of Chattisgarh. I added even in andra, the state’s grey hound were able to eliminate naxals from their borders effectively. I told him the importance of paramilitary in the overall internal security of India is paramount.Member 41. She asked from my hobby. I mentioned listening western rock music as my hobby. So a lot of discussion on the musical instruments and difference between different genres of music.2. She asked lot of questions related to banking abbreviations. In most of the cases I said that I don't know mam. In between even chairman said laughingly that even he don't know the answer. Finally chairman said that your interview is over. You may leave.I scored 97 out of 150 in UPSC CAPF interview.AIR 270

I greeted L1 and took a seat. She started going through the Personal Data form.L1: So you are a computer science engineer, tell me what’s Agile model?Me: Told. The discussion moved to other software models and I was able to answer.L1: Read my answer for the first question (of form related to workex and learnings) and asked me to explain certain things.Me: Answered.L1: What’s ERP?Me: Gave a basic answer. (Didn’t have a good idea)L1: So you are a tester, tell me different types of testing? I stated the facts of the case and the ongoing investigation and said that considering these facts it’s likely that Kejriwal is at fault.L1 (sarcastically): You’ve really strong opinions. Then M1 takes over and starts accusing of dominating the whole GD. I tried to justify that it’s not that I didn’t let others speak, in fact a lot of key points on the flip side of the ongoing discussion were put forward. But he’s not persuaded and accuses me of bullying others. He doesn’t let me speak and goes on to say that you should listen to others, many of them are from IITs and are very senior to you in work exp.I again explained my stand but he isn’t convinced.M1: Should a leader be dominating?Me: A leader should be assertive but respectful of other’s opinions and I did that.L1: You may be a good boss but not a good leader.I smile weakly.L1: Thank you, you may leave now.

Is teaching in a private academy considered work experience in IIM interviews?

Given that I have spent considerable amount of my career post IIM Calcuttain Test Prep, let me share share my perspective.1. What kind of experience do IIMs consider?Let me take IIM Bangalore as an example:This is the criteria for IIM Bangalore:For all candidates in the first shortlist as stated in (1), the score / weight for work experience is calculated as: Pre PI score for Work Experience = 8x/36 if 0 < x < 36 = 8 if x >= 36Where x is the months of work experience up to July 2017, as captured in CAT application form (and substantiated in the application to IIMB). This implies that the score will peak at 36 months work experience and will remain at that level for candidates with work experience exceeding 36 months. The work experience score (maximum 8 in the pre-PI stage) will be multiplied by the quality of work experience score on a 5 point scale (0.25 - 0.5 – 1 - 1.5 - 2) as given by interviewers in the PI process in Phase 2 to then arrive at a weighted work experience scoreIn English: the pre-PI score of work-experience is solely based on the #of months of experience. Then, what happens in the interview? This is what IIM B says:The work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score, as evaluated by the interviewing panel as an assessment of the relevance of the work experience to the program. The quality of work experience score will be evaluated on a 5 point scale (0.25 - 0.5 - 1 - 1.5 - 2) by each member of the panel during the interviews. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the pre-PI work experience score and accordingly the work / professional experience component score used in Phase 1 will be revised to arrive at a weighted work experience score.2. Let’s consider the important part:quality of experience score, as evaluated by the interviewing panel as an assessment of the relevance of the work experience to the programSo, the real question is relevance of work experience to the program. What is relevant?Let’s look at what the IIM B alumni are doing today. These are some of IIM Bangalore’s notable alumni (From wiki!)Some have got into arts & literature:Karan Bajaj (PGP 2002), author (“Keep Off the Grass” and “Johnny Gone Down”)Nila Madhab Panda , film maker and director, (I Am Kalam and Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid)Nityanand Misra (PGP 2007), Sanskrit scholar, editor, and translator.Ravi Subramanian (PGP 1993), author (“If God was a Banker”, "The Incredible Banker" and "The Bankster")Some are into public service:K.
