What are some good examples of a cover letter for an internship?

Most cover letter samples on the web are fake… they are made up. I recently collected a bunch of real letters (with the names and personal details changed, of course) into an ebook: 10 Great Cover Letters. The letters cover a range of jobs and career levels. A few are for internships or entry-level positions. You have to read a bunch of real cover letters to get a sense of the genre, just as you have to read a lot of novels to write good fiction. If you need some help writing your letter OR need someone to read it, I’m here for you.

How important is it to write a cover letter for an entry-level job?

It’s super important to write a cover letter for an entry level job because you don’t have much else to lead with.Your cover letter will be mostly soft skills and education that relate to the position. Here is a sample of cover letter with no experience:We wrote an awesome post with templates that shows you how to write a cover letter with no experience:Writing a Cover Letter With No Experience (Example Included) - ZipJob

How do you apply for a job at Family Guy?

***I’m no longer working on American Dad, but the info still applies.***It depends on what kind of job you want at Family Guy. There are jobs for artists and jobs on the production side, and also, of course, the writers. All have different requirements and people to contact. Note about the following: I do not work at Family Guy, I work on American Dad, across the hall. When I say we, I mean the people evaluating your portfolio, not me personally. These same guidelines apply to all Fox TV animation shows, i.e., the Seth MacFarlane shows. If you are looking for an artist's position, there is an entry-level position, storyboard revisionist, and a more advanced position, storyboard artist. There are a few other positions, (colorist, bg designer, prop designer, character designer,) but they rarely come up, as there are only a few people need for each. Family Guy is not usually looking to fill revisionists positions, but all the Fox TV Animation shows need skilled board artists. You will need: a resume, a brief cover letter about which position you want to apply for and a portfolio. If you are applying for boards, your portfolio should have about ten pages demonstrating solid drawing skills. We need to know you can think 3-demisionally, and have a sense of composition and acting. If you have board samples please include them. When looking at board samples, we are looking for a strong sense of storytelling, acting, framing and continuity. A page or two of life drawing is often shown, please be advised that this can work for you or against you. The most common mistakes you see on a life drawing page is the artist not drawing the hands or feet on a model. be sure you are drawing these, as it shows a lack of confidence, and although the style of the show is "simple," the artists need to have a knowledge of how the human form works. I was told by a Disney rep once that my life drawings were not, in fact, life drawings, because they did not look like a certain Southern California drawing teacher's work. As far as I know, Fox is not like that.If your portfolio is good, you will be asked to take a test. Tests are standard procedure Fox. They, especially the Family Guy test, can prove extremely difficult to pass. I am not trying to scare you off, I'm just letting you know what you will have to do. The test consists of 1-2 pages of script, which you must board in the Family Guy style. That would be the difficult part. The "trick" is to keep the characters on model in every drawing. This means they need to be proportionally exactly the way you see the character on TV. You also, again, need to demonstrate good framing, cutting, and storytelling ability. Watch the most recent Family Guy episodes you can, and just imitate the cutting and framing style. The best tests are not the ones that have crazy angles and hilarious gags, but the ones that look exactly like the show already looks. That is why it can be difficult to pass.It is worth noting that if you take a test for Family Guy, and they think it's decent, but not what they are looking for or need at the moment, they may pass it on to American Dad and The Cleveland Show. (I wrote this more than a year ago, apparently) We all work in the same building on the same floor, and occasionally share artists. If one of the other companies calls you, I would not pass the opportunity up. In fact, you may find that you would enjoy it more than working for Family Guy. If not, it's possible you could still move over, or pick up Family Guy work once you are in the studio. For a production job: Production jobs start with the production assistants, or PAs. It is not the most glamorous position, but at Fox anyway, they do move up. I believe you just submit a cover letter and resume. You can specify which kind of PA you would like to be, there are PAs for the writers, artists, and production itself. Unless you already have experience in this field, you will need to start there. You will also need to move to Los Angeles. If you do not live here currently, or know someone who does, you will need to make some friends. On a PA's pay, you will not be able to afford to live here without at least three roomates, or wealthy parents who are willing to help you out. I wish I were joking.Writers: The Family Guy writers are hired the same way most TV writers are. You need a spec script, an agent, and other things I know nothing about. There are writers on Quora who could answer this question in more detail. I am guessing you would have said writing if that's what you wanted, so, I don't feel terrible. They do not take unsolicited scripts at this time.Voice Actors: if you're famous, they'll call you.***I’m serious about being a voice over actor. I can NOT help you. Also writers (it’s a job, there’s no script/joke suggestion box,) also PAs, also music. All I know is the art stuff.***
