Amara S, if you have a Platinum membership to Airtel Thanks then you will get a 1 Year complimentary membership on Shaws Academy. This means you can select as many courses as you like/can, within 365 days of becoming a member. Do note: while membership is free, the Shaw Academy folks charge you for “Course Toolkits” and “Certificates” which you may ask for in hard copy. However this is much lesser than what it would cost you if you signed up on Shaw Academy directly. Been using Shaw Academy since Jan 26, 2020 and recommend it. I still remember signing up for Zomato Gold almost a year and two months ago because of intense peer pressure amongst my colleagues. It was really a "too good to be true" offering and hence the FOMO made me buy it.Almost 2 months back I got a call from an enthusiastic Zomato sales guy asking me to renew my membership at a "throwaway" price again bringing the FOMO back.As enthusiastic I was about asking him to send me the payment link for renewal , I immediately had a flashback.Flashback of all the times I went to a restaurant just to see it jam packed with a lot of customers waiting to get a table.Flashback of all the times I chose to pick a "not so highly rated" restaurant over a regular one just because it had a promise of 1+1.Flashback of all the times the management of the restaurant had a different interpretation of what constituted as a food item right from the soup to the Mocktail to even denying a lot of "exclusive" or "platter" items not eligible for Gold.Flashback of times when I had to present my ID proof to establish "I am the one who unlocked"And how can I forget the most important of all these flashbacks - The magical downsize of items being served with almost 20–50% of their regular portion size the moment I said I have Zomato Gold.Coming back to the call, I told the guy No. To which he asked why?I only quoted the last flashback. He heard very patiently and disconnected.To be honest, the membership may be a “good to have" thing to boast about but not something which is essential.Edit 21st April, 2020 - This has become my highest viewed answer on Quora. It is quite simply, the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.Extensive Problem StatementsThe problems involved in the competitions are standard and involve a good amount of knowledge of algorithms and apart from knowledge, it also tests the application of those algorithm and problem solving techniques. Preparation will itself make you learn many such algorithms and their applications.Exposure and networkingYou get to meet various people of same interest. You can learn a lot by seeing those people and working with them. You get to network a lot at these events.Job opportunitiesIf you clear even the regional levels or perform well, you get recognized. You get the bragging rights and also you get enough confidence to tackle interviews or major companies which are largely based on these algorithms. Since, this competition is for university students, you can get a little but ahead of the pack in getting a job offer from Tier 1 companies.TravellingYou get to travel to different places and that can be fun. Though the expenses for regionals are borne by candidate, ACM and directi[1] can sometime sponsor the team for onsite travel for finals. You get featured in interviews and see new places. That opens your mind to different possibilities.Nice remunerations:In terms of prize money, the top team takes home $12,000 along with the ACM ICPC Gold medal.Three other teams getting Gold Medal are awarded $6,000. Each Silver Medal team gets $3,000 and each Bronze Medal team is awarded $1,500.Apart from that, Participants, coaches and registered staff (including volunteer helpers) receive complimentary membership to the ACM for a year.
