There are many cultural differences, but I will touch on only one that will be important for you. You say you want a cook-housekeeper. First of all, this is not common in The Netherlands. People where both partners in a couple work, may get some help once or twice a week for housekeeping, but having a cook-housekeeper permanently is not standard.Since people work 40 hours here, you will also need to have at least two, if you want them to work 7 days a week. If you want them to prepare 3 meals a day 7 days a week, I guess you will need at least 3.Now come the most important part. You are their employer, but you are not above them. Everybody is equal. An employer is no better than an employee. You must treat your cook-housekeeper with the same respect you will treat your friends. If you can not do this, do not get one in The Netherlands.

I met him twice at his Casino. He fired a housekeeper because the bed wasn't made correctly. I didn't see anything wrong with it. Then he fired my friend, who was the head housekeeper, since she didn't train properly. His stooges were with him, & he probably wanted to show off. I don't know about waiters/waitresses. I do know he looks down on working people in general.

I was always surprised by those people who would make their bed before leaving. There is really no need to do that because all of the bedding has to be stripped off and recleaned.If you want to be helpful, think about it like this. The housekeeper will be expected to clean your room in 20–30 minutes. This can vary based on whether you are staying over or checking out, whether your room has one or two beds, whether the guest has stayed one night or ten, etc.The housekeeper will enter through the door and then clean clockwise or counterclockwise based on where the bathroom is. Anything you can do to facilitate that is appreciated. If there is garbage (pizza boxes, chip bags, etc.) to be tossed, gathering that near the garbage can is great. If you’ve used several towels, wash cloths and hand towels, if you want to help, leave them all in a pile in the bathtub. These are just a couple of suggestions that will enable the housekeeper to clean as she goes. Obviously you’ve paid for the room and you can leave it as you wish, however.Housekeepers are the most underpaid and overworked of all employees in the hotel. They have to get down on their hands and knees to clean the tub and toilet, under the beds, etc. All of this and they are usually the lowest paid staff in the hotel, often making only minimum wage. Many, many of them leave their housekeeping job when they are done and go direct to their second job of the day.They really appreciate it when they are left a small tip. If you are kind enough to do so, leave a tip each day of your stay. Housekeepers don’t always clean the same rooms every day. So if you leave e.g. $10 for a four-day stay, one housekeeper may have cleaned your room the first three days but have your entire tip go only to the housekeeper who cleaned your room on the last day.Many thanks to all of the housekeepers I’ve worked with over my hotel career.
