What will be the consequences of Asia Bibi's death sentence being overturned in Pakistan?

Supreme Court of Pakistan today overturned death sentence of Asia Bibi. This is historic moment for Pakistan and every Pakistani must be proud of it.Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours. She always maintained her innocence, but has spent most of the past eight years in solitary confinement. At the time of writing this response. Religious Cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi has appealed his supporters to come out from their houses and protest against this decision. Protests has been started in Karachi, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Lahore and Multan.Chief Justice Saqib Nisarm, who read out the ruling, said Asia Bibi could walk free from jail in Sheikupura, near Lahore, immediately if not wanted in connection with any other case.Asia Bibi reaction after court verdict:"I can't believe what I am hearing, will I go out now? Will they let me out, really?" AFP news agency quoted her as saying by phone.I know there will be countrywide protests and we should be mentally prepare for the consequences. Namoos e Risalat (Honor of Prophecy) is one of the most sensitive subject where a person may lose his/her life as well. During last 8 years Asia Bibi along with her family member went through threats and mental pressure. All those people who stood in favor of her were harassed. Both Salman Taseer (Governor of Punjab) and Shahbaz Bhatti (Minister for Minorities) were gunned down in 2011 for publicly supporting Asia Bibi. During all these years, Asia Bibi and her family member suffered a lot. I don't know how we could be able to compensate it but this judgement is indeed good gift to them. This is first step from getting rid of religious extremism in Pakistan. Due to our state negligence, these religious parties are becoming a threat to our sovereignty and state of Pakistan should strictly deal with them. Its time we should stand and completely support all minorities in Pakistan. You my visit to Facebook and Twitter where many Pakistanis are appreciating the verdict of Supreme Court and I hope this is starting point of our long term prosperity. Its not a win of Asia Bibi. Its a win of every individual who is fighting against injustice and bigotry which is being used in the name of religion.I’m a practicing Muslim and don't support people like Khadim Husain Rizvi who are giving bad name to my religion.Pakistan Zindabad! What do you think about Pak's court verdict on Nawaz Sharif?

I personally think that this verdict will ensure that the future Prime Ministers of Pakistan, will suffer from a very low sense of self esteem. This verdict, is actually a judicial stamp of approval, for the continuation and further strengthening of the undeclared martial law, in a nation which has prosecuted 5 out of the 8 elected Prime Ministers it has had so far; while failing to bring to trial even a single dictator, dead or alive, who abrogated and made a joke out of its constitution. The Origins of the Rot.In the 70’s, Pakistan was an internationally popular hippy destination[1]- The Americans and the Europeans seeking all the colors of a ‘rainbow’, loved the cultural diversity, freedom, beauty, safety along with the famed beaches of Pakistan.Despite the setback of 1971[2], The Pakistani economy was on an upswing through the 70’s, growing faster than India’s[3], even becoming a subject of academic interest, among the economic experts of Singapore and South Korea[4].This insanely great period in Pakistani history lasted till 5th July 1977 - when it all came down crashing - thanks to this guy:On 5th July 1977, The Chief of Pak Army, General Muhammad Zia Ul Haq, become the new Dictator of Pakistan. The same Muhammad Zia ul Haq, who, as a Brigadier in the Pak army, had lead Pakistani forces in the now infamous Black September operation in 1970[5].The Black September offensive, which claimed the lives of 25,000[6]innocent and unarmed Palestinian civilians - still distinguishes Pakistan as the nation, responsible for killing the most number of unarmed Palestinian Muslims in history. But who cares about facts, right?Poetic Justice? The same Muhammad Zia ul Haq, while rewriting a new future for Pakistan, giving birth to the Mujahideen/Taliban offensive against Soviet Union etc, also did two very interesting things.1.) He adopted a 20 something, right hand batsman[7]and proud offspring of a Kashmiri Industrialist, with an average total of ‘zero’ runs in first class cricket, as his spiritual son[8]. The boy was soon annointed as the finance minister of Punjab[9].2.) Zia also brought an amendment in Article 62 and 63[10]of the Pakistani Constitution, making it mandatory for a member of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) to be, Sadiq and Ameen (Truthful and Trustworthy). The same article 62–63 of the Pakistani Constitution, was cited this week, by the 5 member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, to disqualify[11]and debar the sitting Prime Minister of Pakistan - the same failed cricketer and the spiritual son, who’d grown out of the cradle, custom built for him by the Military and ISI.The charge on him - Failing to disclose in his nomination papers in 2013, the potential remuneration of about Rs 2 lakhs[12], that he ‘didn’t’[13][14]receive (but could have) as the chairman of the board for - Capital FZE, a company owned by one of his sons.No country for Truthful and Trustworthy Men?While the Supreme Court of Pakistan has given a verdict - declaring Nawaz Sharif as corrupt (perhaps rightly so), the ones distributing sweets in the light of the verdict (read - Sheikh Rashid and Imran Khan) should realise, that Article 62–63 is a double edged sword.Since the interpretation of this law is open ended - it is actually impossible today, to find even a single citizen in Pakistan, who can even stand in the next elections, without getting disqualified.Under such conditions - only those who are ‘pliable’, will surviveWhat it basically means is as follows:Note: The word ‘Kaum’ means peopleHey Jude,Don’t make it bad.Take this sad kaum - don’t make it better.Remember, to let us in your heart,Or else we’ll look for another. You may preside, but you cannot rule,You can be the PM, but hey, April’s fool.As you can see, the sky is blue,The capital of Pakistan, is GHQ.Hey Jude!Whoever loses or wins, as they say - in Pakistan, the final victory always belongs to the Halwai (sweets shop owners).Thank you for reading. Cheers and peace.Footnotes[1] Also Pakistan[2] Fall of Dhaka: Memories of a bloody December[3] http://www.iba.edu.pk/News/speechesarticles_drishrat/Indo_Pak_economies_compared.pdf[4] South Korea’s transformation[5] A leaf from history: Enter: Ziaul Haq[6] Ziaul Haq in Jordan (1970)[7] Nawaz Sharif[8] Footprints: Ziaul Haq alive and kicking [9] Connecting People Through News[10] Article 62 — a law that Nawaz's party had defended becomes his undoing - The Express Tribune[11] Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Is Toppled by Corruption Case[12] The technicality that led to Nawaz Sharif's disqualification[13] The technicality that led to Nawaz Sharif's disqualification[14] How Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was brought down by a font

Why did it take India 4 years to execute Kasab? Are we too soft as a nation? Are we too dominated by the west? Are we afraid? He first pleaded guilty in July 2009, and was pronounced guilty and sentenced to the death penalty in May 2010.

The basic reason why it took 4 years for Kasab's case is simply the sheer number of witnesses! They were over a hundred!Other factors like less number of judges, India's huge population, etc. did not make any difference in Kasab's case. His case right from the special court to the Supreme Court was heard on every day basis. So the time taken was absolutely necessary and in fact the minimum most possible!I would also like to tell everyone here that it is very easy to blame the Legal system, millions of pending cases etc. But what we need to understand is that in each and every case, one party always wants to prolong the matter. Just as one half of the litigants are struggling to fight the cases, the other half struggles to protract them and does all that can be done to achieve it .This is also a major reason why it takes time for courts to dispose the matter!Lastly, I am very proud of the fact that India gave Kasab a full trial. A full chance at defending himself. A lawyer was provided up to the Supreme Court. There was mercy petition. And it was rejected by the President. Law of the land was followed to the last letter. So, Kasab's execution was extremely legal and right. Following Rule of law and doing full justice to Principles of Natural justice. This is also what distinguishes us from the US in the sense that Osama Bin Laden's killing wasn't just. (This is not to say I support him. I am talking purely from a legal perspective). While killing him, the US violated the sovereignty of Pakistan. And I say this despite the fact that I have very little sympathy for the state of Pakistan.Nevertheless, I am proud of my country for we truly believe in the rule of law even when the Accused is Ajmal Kasab.
