I don’t know German, but I do know history.The Germans named things in a quite… shall we say… literal way compared to the way most other countries do. For instance, may I present to you the Panzer IV F2:Or, as the Germans call it in the full name, Panzerkampfwagen IV F2. Loosely translated, you can break the name down into three parts:Panzer: the closest English word that has a similar definition is “armor.”Kampf: this one can mean a few different things in German. To my knowledge, it’s usually used as a word for “fighting” or “combat.”Wagen: again, it’s got multiple meanings to my knowledge. That’s kind of a normal thing with German words, as I’ve seen. Some common translations would be “car” or “vehicle.”So, using context clues, we can find out that a rough translation of the German name for the Pz, IV F2 in English would be Armored Fighting Vehicle, model IV, variant F2.Now, I used the aforementioned tank for a specific reason. It was one of the tanks that got Germany really started into tank-on-tank warfare, rather than just using them for infantry support. Seeing as most everyone else called their tanks, well, tanks, the translation of “panzer” evolved to mean “tank” instead of “armor,” which (in the modern sense) means heavy vehicles and tanks.So, to conclude: while the literal translation of panzer does indeed mean armor, it can also mean tank. Generally, when someone says panzer, they are referring to a tank, not actual armor that you would wear.

In C++, if you attempt to write a function that returns a function by value, it will not compile.
