PDF Editor FAQ

How would you structure the DCEU lineup?

Alright [cracks knuckles]. Just as a bit of fun, I’ll lay out the skeleton of my own personal DC cinematic universe under the presumption that I have powers that far exceed even the most iron-fisted Warner Bros. executive. There are aspects of the current DCEU that I do like and see no reason to dispense with in my hypothetical franchise. My familiarity with the full roster of DC comics is uneven so some of my suggestions will be comprehensive while others will be bare bones. Hopefully my personal fan-casting won’t come across as too silly.-THE DC CINEMATIC UNIVERSE-PHASE ONEMAN OF STEELDirected by George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)Pitch: Borrows several elements from Snyder’s film but dispenses with the morose moral arc and livens things up with more color and aspiration. Metropolis has a distinctive retro-chic aesthetic. Mirror the 1978 film’s sweeping narrative by beginning with the destruction of Krypton (by Brainiac in this origin), Kal-El spending some time in Kansas with childhood like Pete Ross & Lana Lang to him moving to Metropolis and becoming a reporter for the Daily Planet. Dispense with the flashback-structure of the Snyder film. Kal can reveal himself as Superman to the world at the midpoint before Zod and a small band of surviving Kryptonians arrive to conquer the planet (or for a more specific purpose that I don’t have the mental energy to devise as of now). Characters casually reference the existence of Batman and Lex Luthor. Emphasize how Superman is a breath of fresh air that gives hope to a jaded America and the broader world.Cast:Kal-El aka Clark Kent (Superman) | Henry CavillLois Lane | Mary Elizabeth WinsteadJimmy Olsen | Lakeith StanfieldPerry White | Lawrence FishburneGeneral Zod | Jude LawFaora-Ul | Antje TrauePa Kent | Kevin CostnerMa Kent | Diane LaneJor-El | Russell CroweTHE BATMANDirected by Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)Pitch: Bruce Wayne has been the vigilante Batman for several years already and has a notorious reputation in the Gotham underworld. He is still youthful but haunted by the torture and death of his protege, Jason Todd (who was like a younger brother to him in this franchise and not like a son). The Joker, Todd’s murderer, is incarcerated in Arkham Asylum but hangs over proceedings like a lingering menace. Bruce resists Barbara Gordon’s entreaties of apprenticeship while fending off assassins hired by the mafia kingpin Roman Sionis. Gotham is a rotting Rome crippled by corruption and buckling under the unification of the mafias, who are rallying together to take down the Dark Knight. A chiaroscuro noir aesthetic with more attention paid to how crime impacts the communities of Gotham. Per the suggestion of YouTuber ComicsExplained, implement Bruce’s relationship with an orphaned kid from the ‘War on Crime’ story arc as a subplot that serves as the picture’s emotional spine and provides its redemptive ending after the main conflict is settled. Lex Luthor can appear in a nifty cameo as a fellow titan of industry meeting with Bruce. Heavy emphasis on Batman’s detective skills.Cast:Bruce Wayne (Batman) | Jake GyllenhaalAlfred Pennyworth | Jeremy IronsBarbara Gordon | Jane LevySelena Kyle (Catwoman) | Rebecca FergusonJames Gordon | Bruce GreenwoodRoman Sionis (Black Mask) | Vincent PiazzaOswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) | Timothy SpallFloyd Lawton (Deadshot) | Will SmithGarfield Lynns (Firefly) | Sharlto CopleyLex Luthor: Cory StollWONDER WOMANDirected by Patty Jenkins (Monster)Pitch: I have nothing to add to the film that we got. It worked like gangbusters: don’t change the script, the cast or the production team. Don’t change a damn thing.GREEN LANTERNDirected by Brad Bird (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation)Pitch: The Green Lantern Abin Sur is mortally wounded following a skirmish with the Red Lantern Corps. He crash-lands on Earth and his ring finds a successor - Hal Jordan. The 2010 film is grotesquely bad but it had the right inciting premise. Hal is a brash pilot who has an indefatigable willpower that is fueled by a burdensome chip on his shoulder. He is whisked away to the Lantern Corps and agrees to his role as a space patroller under the guidance of Thaal. He is thrust into the war against the Red Lanterns, who are lead by the justifiably-aggrieved Atrocitus. A space adventure that broadens the franchise universe to galactic proportions. Hal must learn to harness his indomitable spirit without succumbing to his anger.Cast:Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) | Alden EhrenreichCarol Ferris | Zoë KravitzThaal Sinestro | Luke EvansAtros (Atrocitus) | Bobby CannavaleAbin Sur | Iain GlenKilowog | Kristofer HivjuCYBORGDirected by Anna Rose Holmer (The Fits)Pitch: The origin of Vic Stone, a young man who was maimed by an accident and resurrected by his father using alien technology. Emphasis on feelings of alienation from the world and your own body. Luthor comes into play as an antagonist working behind the scenes. Use this opportunity to add connective tissue across the cinematic universe. Lean on the cyberpunk elements.Cast:Victor Stone (Cyborg) | Ray FisherSilas Stone | Joe MortonJohn Corben (Metallo) | Dan StevensLex Luthor | Corey StollTHE FLASHDirected by Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert (Swiss Army Man)Pitch: Use this film as an opportunity to inject some anarchic fun into the cinematic universe. Barry Allen is gifted with supersonic speed after being mysteriously struck by a bolt (which we will learn was delivered by his future self in a later installment). A well-meaning but antisocial young man whose father is wrongly imprisoned, he is tempted to use his new abilities for self-enrichment and other unethical pursuits. Enter Leonard Snart, a professional criminal whose gang of flamboyant thieves are making a splash in the city with a series of theatrical heists, armed with high-tech weaponry that was secretly provided by Lex Luthor. Barry, while squaring off against Snart, he can’t help but feel drawn to the charismatic and persuasive thief. Colorful design palette and an ample helping of quippy humor.Cast:Barry Allen (The Flash) | Taron EgertonHenry Allen | Jerome FlynnLeonard Snart (Captain Cold) | Aaron PaulMick Rory (Heat Wave) | Caleb Landry JonesGeorge Harkness (Captain Boomerang) | Jai CourtneyJUSTICE LEAGUEDirected by Gareth Evans (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story)Pitch: Begin with a Dawn of Man sequence where a caveman’s physiology is forever changed by an extraterrestrial rock: the origin of Vandal Savage. Cut to modern day, where escalating attacks by two seemingly unstoppable beings bring all of our heroes together. The formidable opponents are Black Adam and Poison Ivy (refashioned in this franchise as an ancient being akin to the Gods established in Wonder Woman). The two Gods, in league in Savage, provoke the hidden kingdom of Atlantis and threaten a war between humanity and the ocean dwellers. Our heroes learn to work together to diffuse the conflict and fight back against the evil trio, only for Savage to reveal that his ultimate goal was to gather all of Earth’s super-humans together to form an all-powerful legion and impose order over humanity (except for Batman, who he rejects due to his lack of powers). The newly formed Justice League rejects the offer and bond together to defeat Savage and his allies.Cast:Bruce Wayne (Batman) | Jake GyllenhaalKal-El aka Clark Kent (Superman) | Henry CavillDiana (Wonder Woman) | Gal GadotHal Jordan (Green Lantern) | Alden EhrenreichBarry Allen (The Flash) | Taron EgertonArthur Curry (Aquaman) | Alexander SkarsgårdVandar Adg (Vandal Savage) | Oscar IsaacIvy | Riley KeoughTeth-Adam (Black Adam) | Edgar RamírezOrm Marius (Ocean Master) | Patrick Wilson-PHASE TWO-ARROWDirected by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation)Pitch: The origin of the Green Arrow himself, Oliver Queen. Introduce Dinah Lance initially as an antagonist who eventually aligns with Oliver as the two form a romance. They work to dismantle the drug operation run by China White while Oliver is confronted by his childhood hero, Merlyn. This installment gives the opportunity to ground the cinematic hijinks after the high-scale pyrotechnics of Justice League.Cast:Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) | Charlie HunnamDinah Lance (Black Canary) | Natalie DormerChien Na Wei (China White) | Sonoya MizunoArthur King (Merlyn) | Mark RylanceTHE BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUMDirected by Matt ReevesPitch: Bruce Wayne gradually opens up to Barbara Gordon as he contends with a mysterious new menace in the Gotham underworld, a masked man known as Hush. Meanwhile, the malevolent psychiatrist of Arkham Asylum, Hugo Strange, devises a scheme to fell the Batman. Hush, real name Thomas Elliot, is a deranged childhood friend of Bruce who has figured out his identity as Batman and teamed with Hugo Strange (he was a former patient at Arkham). They orchestrate Bruce’s abduction and incarceration in Arkham while Hush, who has underwent extensive plastic surgery to look like Bruce, assumes his identity at Wayne Enterprises. The second half of the film is Bruce Wayne trapped in Arkham and surrounded by some of Gotham’s most notorious criminals (Victor Zsasz, Harvey Dent, etc.). Only Barbara Gordon, donning the mantle of the Bat, can rescue him. As a capper, the Joker makes an appearance at the climax of the film, when Bruce is most vulnerable in Arkham. Keep his introduction in the cinematic universe under wraps (no casting announcement, no press hints, no nothing).Cast:Bruce Wayne (Batman) | Jake GyllenhaalBarbara Gordon (Batgirl) | Jane LevyThomas Elliot (Hush) | Jake GyllenhaalHugo Strange | Bill HaderThe Joker | Guy PearceSON OF KRYPTONDirected by Michelle McClaren (Game of Thrones)Pitch: Brainiac, the alien who destroyed Krypton, invades the Earth. Kal struggles to maintain his romance with Lois Lane as Clark Kent while keeping his identity as Superman a secret from her, which is further complicated by the return of Lana Lang (high school sweetheart who knew of his powers) into his life. Kal learns of Luthor’s machinations and vows to bring him to justice before he squares off against Brainiac’s invasion. The alien introduces the mineral of kryptonite as a weapon. Kal defeats Brainiac but the battle costs him his life after he succumbs to kryptonite poisoning.Cast:Kal-El aka Clark Kent | Henry CavilleLois Lane | Mary Elizabeth WinsteadLana Lang | Mackenzie DavisVril Dox (Brainiac) | Jared HarrisJimmy Olsen | Lakeith StanfieldPerry White | Lawrence FishburneLex Luthor | Cory StollSUICIDE SQUADDirected by Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room)Pitch: Amanda Waller organizes a band of incarcerated mercenaries to hunt and take down the on-the-loose Joker. This software is very convenient. As an insurance agent, I need many forms signed and sometimes it has to be signed immediately and the customer is not able to come into the office to sign so I can email it to them and have Them CocoDoc it right away instead of coming into the office. It is very easy to use, step-by-step they show you. In the beginning, it's a little getting used to but you get a hang of it after a little while of using it over and over again
