The electrical grid that covers most of Texas is not physically connected to any other state. Most of Texas can’t import electricity from other states. Yes, this turned out to be a bad idea.I will note that much of the Texas Panhandle—the rectangle sticking up to the north—is connected to the multistate Eastern Interconnect grid. So is the area along the eastern border with the state of Louisiana. The area around the city of El Paso is connected to the multistate Western Interconnect grid. Those regions did not experience significant loss of electricity. At most, they had brief “rolling” blackouts. The areas shaded in blue are covered by Texas’s electrical grid, ERCOT. The areas in white are connected to multistate power grids outside of Texas, and they’re the ones that didn’t lose power during the snowstorm. Update: thanks for all the great feedback. This happened when Tim was 7. He is now 25. Tim just graduated from Boston University with his masters in Biomedical engineering.One thing that I wanted to add is that the whole IEP team thought Tim’s answers were strange and part of his problem so their attitude was that he failed the questions because he couldn’t give typical answers.We need more room in our classrooms for kids who think differently and don’t always give the expected answer. Especially when you are considering a kid’s aptitude and where they will be placed academically.Original answer:Not actually taught, but tested on. I have three smart children, but my son, who is on the autism spectrum, is really amazingly smart. At one point, as part of his IEP, the school decided they wanted to do IQ testing. They did the Woodcock-Johnson cognitive abilities test on him.When we got the results back they said his combined IQ was 104. We were a little surprised and had them break it down for us. Turned out he did really badly on the general information section. So, being new to the Woodcock-Johnson test, we asked for examples of the types of questions and his answers so we could understand his deficit better.Here are the questions and answers they gave usThe moon is in the sky? True or false.Tim said false, because the sky includes the atmosphere and it is in space not the atmosphere.Name two coins. Tim said Sacagawea dollar and buffalo war nickel (Tim was a coin collector). They wanted penny, nickel, dime, quarter.Why do your parents tell you to turn off the lights? Tim said that power is a finite resource because most are petroleum or coal based and we need to not waste electricity when we can help it.They were looking for “save money.”We realized then that the school was not smart enough to test him. We got the school to send him to an external neuropsychologist and he tested above genius level.

Yes, they did. It was in 1969, and was made at the Queen’s instigation.It was a warm, pleasant little film, and was watched by more than half of the UK population. The critics didn't like it much, but I think the general public mostly did. I remember watching it, but the only parts I recall clearly are a sequence in which they were having a barbecue while on holiday at Balmoral, with Prince Philip and Princess Anne doing most of the cooking.
