PDF Editor FAQ

How can I have a top-end software engineer job if I am from a tier-3 engineering college?

I feel myself to be the most eligible guy to answer this question as:-1. Spent 4 years in IIT-JEE Preparation2. Base of my career is B.Tech from a tier-3 college without CAT/GATE :)3. On B.Tech base, was able to add toppings of Work experience and PG/MastersActually I had spent 4 years (3 attempts) in IIT-JEE preparation, chasing dream of IIT. Throughout these 4 years, i tried my best, did sincere studies. I was good in national level mock tests but somehow failed in actual one. Third attempt was during my first year of Engineering in a tier-3 college which requires 3 digit state rank..Anyways coming to point, and sharing my story. There was no regret in preparations/strategy but somehow i was not able to do it. While going through failure of not being able to crack IIT, at a moment a thought of suicide also came to my mind. Believe me, suicide is actually a state of mind for a moment and luckily i was able to handle it. That day, I was having some money, a silly thought came to my mind that better to spend the money, eat something and then die. :PI went to college canteen, where I saw some seniors were discussing interview questions. I observed I can handle it buddy. I was just thinking about it, when i saw conductor of one opf the college bus having his lunch in college lawn. I sat next to him and just talked casually and got to know he worked before in Canada and Dubai.. He was such a calm and happy soul who is happily passing time and supporting his family at native place.I realized Coaching Institutes make us fool that if you are not IITian, you are good for nothing, Guys, we can at-least do something to survive. That day I thought, my college requires 3 digit state rank i am still better than many others, still capable to atleast something. While i was in 2nd year i realised that this (Tier-3) college is my fate and people here also somehow, earn their bread and butter and I should also get something useful for life out of this. Moreover there are colleges, where no company comes for Placement, they might also be doing something today or tomorrow. While realising all this, my 2nd year B.Tech also passed. While i entered 3rd year, my profile was:- 10th 84%, 12th 58%, B.Tech 19 backlogs. Also, i had joined a local computer diploma institute to cover gap year but all exams were pending. So it was in third year when i actually started studying or rather I should say passing the engineering.. During third year i had lots and lots of stuff to doFirst hurdle was that with low 12th grades, i was not able to apply for placements and due to gap, not eligible for improvement exams at CBSE..During 3rd year of my Engineering, i realised, some guys in that college were very serious about their career, luckily few of them became my friends. With their support, was able to make smart and sincere efforts to settle the things.1st - Joined NIOS (Open Board) to repeat 12th exams for better grades2nd - Requested computer diploma institute to allow me appear for exams3rd - Discussed my scene with college faculty along with juniors/classmates to get specific notes.4th - visited another local computer institute for C, C++ and Java CoreDuring third year i appeared for 50+ exams:)5 exams (12th), 11 exams (Computer Diploma), 19 backlogs, 10 regular exams, 3 exams (C, C++ and Java) along with college session examsWas preparing very sincerely and wisely, target was to get eligible for placements. Basically I had to prepare answers and presentation be done in a way that i should at-least get passing mark, if not good grade. I realised the difference, for IIT-JEE have to cover the topic thoroughly but for university exams, specific topics are to be covered. I was focusing on previous papers and 30–35 pages Xerox notes for most of Engineering exams. As there are many comments about 12th from NIOS, check below link, shared few detailsGaurav Wadhwa's answer to How much time does it take to pass 12th class from the NIOS board? When 3rd year ended, my profile was:-10th 84%, 12th 67%, B.Tech 68%, Diploma 81% and certificates of C, C++ and Java. I wish, I should have taken practical exams seriously at Open Board, They don't give full marks like CBSE guys. :)Was given a nick name “Cheetah sir” by my juniors, who were actually helping me with notes and all..During Final year, initially a thought of CAT came to my mind.. But somehow i was not willing to spend time on these preparations. My mindset was like, i need a job to earn skillset, work experience (and salary :P) along with my qualifications.Once third year ended, i contacted few guys1. Local MAT/Bank PO level institute2. NIIT for some certificates3. HCL Infosystems (CDC) for internship4. Same good local institute for C, C++ and Java CoreDuring 1st 100 days of my final year, I simply1. revised C, C++, Java Core and SQL concepts2. Sincerely prepared Aptitude and was doing full MAT paper or Bank PO (without GK) twice a week3. HCL and NIIT though not taught anything useful but added certificates to my CV4. I edited my CV almost daily, tried my best to make it perfect5. Prepared answers to common questions like introduction, strength/weakness.6. Prepared answers to expected questions like why did 12th twice, did diploma before BTech etc7. By own, prepared explanation and SDLC/STLC coverage of a Development Project which HCL guys gave us.8. Was applying every job, literally every job Banking, IT, Sales, Support whateverMy CV finally showcased below things:-1. B.Tech 70+2. One Year Diploma 81%3. 12th Repeat (NIOS-Open Board) 67%4. 12th CBSE 58%5. 10th CBSE 84%6. Skillset of C, C++, Java Core7. Placement Coordinator at college Placement Office8. Some Fest, Fairs, seminars etc9. Internship/Trainings from HCL InfosystemsWhich I guess looks good from recruiters point of view :PJob Application Targets:-In last 4–5 months of Engineering with CV, attire ready my simple target was to apply all jobs at college level and maximum clicks on “Apply” button in job portals.Infact often i ended up getting message that Maximum application for today reached, try tomorrow :DBasically i was applying to each and every option like Software-IT Jobs, Banking, Sales, Support, MBA Colleges and i had kept a target to appear in 50+ organisations (written/interviews) till last day of my B.Tech and i was able to achieve this number after one month of B.Tech completion. After one month of stepping out of college and 50 applications, i had below options:-1. Infosys and TCS offers in IT2. Internship offer from a Product based org3. HCL Comnet and IBM Daksh (Support Jobs)4. Merchant Navy offer5. Axis Bank Management trainee6. MAT 99.4 Percentile7. Calls based on good score in AMCAT, eLitmus, NITATI still remember my last day at my hostel, i was not willing to step out of my (Tier-3) college, I agree, it was not tier-1, but is close to my heart and in my memories. I often visit it, when i get a chance.Internship from Product based org was best option, but I was not willing to take risk. I analysed the options, discussed with knowns working in I.T. Sector and decided to go with Infosys as i was interested in Infosys Mysore training to work and improve my Software Engineering skills. With 3-4 months break after B.Tech and before Infosys joining i sent a polite mail to organisations, i was not willing to join.Joined a gym, revised OOPS, Java, visited my cousins, spent some time in Gurgaon and Bangalore. Finally i landed at Infosys, did training at Infosys Mysore, after which Got posted at Pune.I worked on Security domain in Finance project for 4+ years, was learning while earning and side by side did distance MBA from a valid university. With obvious reasons:-1. I was enjoying my work, and was not willing to prepare and spend time on CAT.2. Somehow, not willing to spend 15–20 Lacs on MBA, that too by leaving the job3. Did it in distance mode, along with good internships, online courses4. Total 50–60k Fees to be paid in Installments5. Online lectures, can attend as per my schedule.6. MCQ exams as per my schedule. I was not willing to give subjective exams with a datesheet.7. Certificate should be of a Degree and no diplomaFinally, I was able to mention my Masters Degree on my daughter’s kinder garden admission form :DThere is an interesting experience, like how i paid my fees of MBA along with my B.Tech and Bike loans which is shared in below link:-Gaurav Wadhwa's answer to How did you handle your student loan debt once you graduated college? Now people are commenting that Distance MBA is not worth, Guys i dont think we should compare it with top colleges. But compare below two profiles:-Guy1 - B.Tech, MBA both from 3 tier and hunting for job (No Salary for 3 years and pay the fees)Guy2 - B.Tech, M.B.A. Distance with 3 year experience and good skillset (Earned salary, fees I guess 50k total)I tried to be Guy2, as simple as that!!Where my batch-mates are today?1. Some did MS in USA from same institutes, where IITians/NITians join2. Some cracked GATE/CAT/GRE/GMAT/IBPS/UPSC etc.3. Some joined Govt Services in Engineering/Army/Banking/Police/Excise etc4. Some like me doing skills upgrades and serving in IT CompaniesWhat People of my age and similar profile are doing these days:-Most of them have became or trying to move to Management or Operations in senior profiles by promotions or earning certifications, diploma’s, degrees and making a switch.Do i still miss IIT/Top colleges? Where do IITians/Top Colleges guys have edge and how to move? The answer is NO, looks strange, let me explain. My immediate neighbour is a BITS alumni. We often spend 15–20 hours per week together.. The thing is, Once we are in job and are in stable salary to support the family, then everything is same.Yes, they guys have edge while making the things stable. But they too have to struggle..Here is a plan for guys who are younger than me and trying make the things work:-1. Be eligible, make sure grades (Marks>60 etc) are good enough to apply companies2. Keep updating your CV, keep editing it.3. Do internships/ trainings as per interest and market scenario4. Do Online courses from Udemy, IIT’s online classes etc.. They do not help directly but help to earn skills and can also mention in CV5. Keep a formal attire ready for interview.6. It may happen that one has to join some other job. But even then we can keep applying to job of interest. To mention, If i would have done suicide, i would have missed the beautiful life ahead, which was waiting for me. My parents would have missed me with no fault of theirs.Sharing details on point 6 about other job:-I know one guy who stepped out of Tier-3 college without a job (happens often). He immediately joined a Tech Support job (can say Technical BPO or call center).Joined Post Graduate DIploma and also did internships and courses online..He was able to join a Product Based company in less than one year, before he got his diploma.Actually our parents dont know BPO/Software whatever, they say that our son is working in Noida. Ghar walo ko nahi pata, what is BPO/Software/Product. Special father ‘s say unhone B.Tech karai, pehle 8K salary thi.. abb company badli to 22k ho gai.. and he is proud of it. Let them be happy in this (can say) illusion. Ultimate goal was this thing only :DBackup option to maintain:-Do not spend whole of the salary, your primary duty is to support your family and not to impress the society. Infact we are not here just to publish data on facebook :DCalculate minimum monthly expense which you need. Suppose it is 35K per month, then 2Lac+ should be kept separately.// Reason: It gives support mental peace that just in case something in career goes wrong then we get 6–7 months to revise, study and apply job again :)Things which i suggest should be always maintained at my age without a miss.1. Documents file and xerox copies2. Short notes in a notepad like Java/OOPS/HR questions.3. Bank balance say 50K or whatever for emergencies4. Power bank charger and phone charger in your bag, it avoids panic5. Keep phone numbers of plumber, electrician, carpenter, grocery, ambulance, security, doctor, CA, Advocate handy6. Maintain your own playlists, soft songs, DJ songs, bhajans, kids songs, old songs.. just play them at home or in car and see reaction (happiness/excitement/satisfaction) of your family membersWhat i improved in last few days:-1. I recently worked on my Data Engineering skills using a formal course. Also I improved my Technical skills.2. I have reduced my caffine intake from 7–8 cups a day to half cup two times3. I stay away from my smartphone for 20+ hours.I have bought Nokia 105 for my primary number and most of the times, i myself dont know my smart phone is.4. Joined a team of friends, who have adopted one family for 2 Years by providing them monthly food (rashan) and paying school fee of kids. (They somehow lost their bread earner)What i am planning to work further:-1. Job: Plan is to spend time in new organization and work on new skills2. Personal: Will try to spend more time with my daughter and wife.3. My daughter wants me to completely quit drinking caffine, gande bache peete hai :D4. I want to wake up early morning without an alarm clock5. I do simple walk, jogging in park, just thinking if i should join gym :)Where i am today after 9 years.Personally: These days, I am more comfortable to be with spiritual guys, happily married to love of my life. Blessed to have a sweet daughter. Love to do meditation, be in a park, Watch Tarak Mehta show :DI often watch Sadhguru, Sandeep Maheshwari, beerbiceps and fit-tuber on youtube.Professionally: B.Tech MBA with 9 year experience, just completed Big Data course from Great Lakes and have an offer of 17+ at Gurgaon.I have seen guys earning 25, 40 and 50 lacs based on their skills with a non-iitian degree. This is just my story, there are may be lacs or crores of people like me, we often meet daily and are stable with non-iitian degree. Keep trying to move as per directions shown by life, something will happen for good.Financial/Status: Meri zarurate kamm hai, isliye mere zamir me damm hai.. :DBasically, I am not so crazy about brands, i ride my splendor, drive Swift, use Nokia 105 as my primary phone (Mi Note7 for Jio Sim :P), gifted tablet to my daughter (allowed 20 minutes per day) Thanks to my wife, we will be completing EMI’s of 3-BHK at Gurgaon in next few years.Am i thankful to my (Tier-3) college?Yes, It was my last and first regular degree… My 3rd year made me something that i can try to face pressure in personal and professional life..I paid my education loan and did MBA distance on my own..With blessings of my parents, i can say that I have earned the things, not just did it.That college gave me platform to learn skills (technical, personal), Manage multitasking (my 3rd year..), eligibility.. and my wife… yes, she was my classmate and we actually talked first time in my 3rd year…My B.Tech degree is base of my career, on which i was able to add MBA and PG Diploma along with work experience and skills…I am really thankful to my college for providing me a base to live my life ahead..Future Plan: Once EMI is paid, will continue cashless insurance for my family. Long term plan is to do some other job, may be Placement Officer in some college just to keep myself busy, keep interacting and pay the bills. I wish to do M.Phil and land in Operations/Managerial/Consultancy/Speciality after 10–15 more years which is my retirement plan, once i quit from technical stuff! Now thats again my own choice as i want to be fit, satisfied as i feel that I am there for sometime on this planet, want to spend time with my parents, my family, inlaws. Do meditation, Be a good citizen, Plan short trips, see my daughter growing. With calmness, satisfaction leave this planet thinking Mazaa aa gaya bhai, badia life thi..Jitni chaabi bhari Raam ne,Utna chale khilona :)

Be they funny, emotional, inspirational, or the like, what are some of the best random conversations you have ever had with an autorickshaw or a taxi driver?

This was the time when I was interning in CNN IBN, Mumbai. A brief background before I get into the story. So basically I am someone who loses stuff pretty frequently. Mind you, none of it was actually stolen. I lost it because of my own carelessness. Like putting my mobile phone on the stand of the pani puri cart before eating and then totally forgetting about it later and losing it. (Yep, I take my food seriously :P)Anyway, I lost my wallet while travelling in the local train one unfortunate evening. It had everything including my room keys and my debit card. I was hardly carrying any money. Thanks to few friends and my uncle, I managed my expenses. As for the room key, I had to get a new one made. So the next day, I take an auto and asked him to take me to the nearest chaabiwaala. Known for being very outspoken, the driver started a conversation with me and here it goes.Him: Kya hua madam? Chaabi khogaye kya?(What happened madam? Lost your key?)Me: Haan Bhaiyya. Meri wallet khogayi.(Yes. I lost my wallet)Him: Aila. Toh Paise sab kuch gaye?(Damn. All money is gone then?)Me: Haan. Waise bhi itna zyaada paise nahi haain usme. Poora paisa card main hi hain.(Not really. I was not carrying too much cash. Everything is in the card (bank))Him: Acha. Debit card main hain kya.Me: Haan. Pin hota hain na. Tho safe hain.Him: Toh card pey aapne pin number nahi likhi?(Didn't you write down your pin number on your card?)Me: Nahi bhaiyya. Main yaad karti hoon. Waise bhi pin number aisa likhna nahi chaahiye.(No. I remember. You're not supposed to write down the Pin number like that)Him: Aisa kya madam. Mera bhi debit card hain. Dekhiye. (Shows open his card)(I have a debit card too)Me: (Observing his pin number on the envelope of his card) Bhaiyya aapne pin number kyoon likha isme? Agar card khogayi toh poora paisa chori hojaayeka.(Why did you write the pin on the card. If you lose it, you'll lose all your money)Him: Haan madam. Yaad rakhne ke liye likha.Me: Yaad rakhna hain to mobile mey save kijiye. Aisa likhna khatarnak hain.(If you cant remember it, save it on your phone. Writing like this very dangerous)We reach the destination. He saved the pin number on his phone and tore the debit card envelope right in front of me.This is one particular incident I remember in my two-month stay at Mumbai. Felt really good that day :)P.S: Excuse my bad Hindi. Its not my native language.

I ordered the MAC platform TunesGo after being led around in circles for ages. Confirmation arrived but all the links sent me opened blank pages. Downloaded the MAC trial thru google search and successfully registered it, but then it unregistered itself when I checked for updates. This is how I discovered I was sent a code for a windows platform. When I finally found the CocoDoc website (thru google again) they had a notice in support that they were on vacation for the next 10 days. What? But I only have 7 days to get a refund! Buyer beware!
