PDF Editor FAQ

What is your review of Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology, Ghaziabad (KIET)?

I am a 2017 pass out from KIET (EC branch). I originally wrote this answer in 2018.This answer has been updated with the latest information (15/07/2020) about the changes in KIET. Thankful to my junior from Electrical Department- Aman Khan (Batch of 2020).Well before reading the answer, please keep in mind that you are not supposed to compare it with IITs and other top government colleges. I'll review it as an individual college. It is amongst the top most colleges of AKTU (UPTU). Since it's a private college the fees is going to be on a higher end but still less than other private owned universities like SRM, Manipal etc. KIET has been growing ever since we joined, studied and left the institute. The administration is working towards creating a holistic environment towards the development of students.Academics: Students from KIET have been in the top academic ranks of AKTU for past many years. The college has produced university gold, silver and bronze medalists in each passing year. In first and second year, you will be taught really well in all subjects. 2/3rd of the faculties in the first year teach really well. There will be assignments, lab tutorials, quizzes and exams from time to time so you need to invest time into academics to perform better. You might feel a little pressure initially but you will adapt with time for sure. If you learn to manage the academic pressure in the first year itself, you won't have troubles later on in adjustments. In the following years, academics remain good but since student interests depreciate with time and so does the teacher's interest for such students so it's highly variable in the last 2–3 semesters. There are a few faculties who flaunt more than their actual ability to teach. Lab facilities are really good but it's not a 100% practical approach that is followed over there. Few of them really have a good learning outcome while others might appear as a burden to complete the lab manual from time to time. But ultimately, if you are interested you can utilize those resources to the fullest. Don't expect SPOON FEEDING at all. Overall academics are very good for first 4 semesters, good for 5th semester but since most of the students get involved in GATE/CAT/IES/UPSC/GRE/PLACEMENTS/GMAT/GOVERNMENT EXAMS and so the studies in classroom depreciate for last few semesters.College life: The college life is really interesting if you choose to live in the hostel. You get to meet very interesting people and make new friends. It's one of the best parts of college life. Apart from that just roaming around the campus after classes is a pleasure in itself. Campus life is chill. There will be rules from time to time but you will adjust with it. Rules are more stern for girls. Their time for hostel entry is much before boys. Girls have to be in hostel by 7 PM while boys can roam the campus throughout the night. Don't worry, girls have an area in their premises for gym, quick bites and all. It's just the timing for them. But even for boys, they cannot leave the campus after 10 PM. These rules are enforced because the surrounding region of Murad Nagar around the college is not safe during the night hours. So even if you have an urgent requirement to move out, make sure you do it in a group of 4–5 people.Placements: Decent enough placement opportunities are present. For CS/IT, some companies offer 10 LPA+ but only a few students make to it who are seriously good at programming and computer science principles. Recent offers (updated from 2019, 2020 batches onward) have been as high as 27 LPA by Adobe, Amazon (15 LPA+), Kronos (13.2 LPA), and Byju’s (10 LPA) etc. Most of the firms from CS/IT sector demand a strong foundation in Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming, Database Management, OS and Cloud Computing Systems. Make sure to study these subjects if you are planning for such firms. Byju’s and similar other companies offered business development roles which can be taken by students who are not interested in IT sector. To prepare for such roles, you will need to show your skills in managerial, verbal and leadership areas. Some core companies with decent packages visit for Electrical, ECE and Mechanical too but again the vacancies are less. For e.g. HUL, Airtel, Pernod Ricard, Torrent Power, Broadcom, Indian Navy, Ericsson, Atlas Copco etc. I have heard that Civil Engineering students have also paced up their placement stats in the past 2–3 years (Don’t have exact figures). College tries to get diverse opportunities for the students in their final year. The major recruitment is through mass recruiters (Tech Mahindra, Capegemini, TCS, etc) and the packages remain in 3–4 LPA range. If you prepare properly then you can target beyond 5–6 LPA too. So if you have a Good Academic Record, Personality, Relevant Skill Set and Profile, then you can get the big fishes too. It's not a piece of cake so work hard with it to ensure a placement. So overall, placements are above average to good (with respect to a B.Tech fresher) depending upon the level of preparation you do. Focus more on developing skill set rather than just bookish knowledge. Strike a balance between both. You need to work on your subjects, skills and to some extent coding if you want to get a decent placement. The Placement and Training Cell regularly organizes soft skill sessions to prepare the students and their resumes for interviews in various profiles.Internships: Since 2018, the college is taking responsibility for internships as well. Earlier students finishing their 6th semester, used to hunt for intern/training opportunities on their own but now their are companies visiting the campus to offer internships as well. Students from 1st year to 3rd Year can apply for these roles and depending upon the level of expertise needed by the company, they are offered respective roles. Internships are really important in the development of a student’s corporate persona and learning opportunities. Kronos, NEC India etc offered internships to students recently. A few students were able to receive foreign exchange opportunities as well. Keep that in mind, these opportunities are very much limited but if you want then you can definitely grab them. In case you don’t receive any internship from college then go for Internshala, Linkedin, etc. to search for opportunities on your own.Annual fests: by the time I left we had 4 fests annually. The main show stealer used to be “epoque”. You can expect a lot of activities and superb musical and dance night with a celebrity performance too (Sunidhi Chauhan, Benny Dayal, KK, Neha Kakkar, Kanika Kapoor, Mika etc. have visited the college). It is a 2 day blessing to explore some adventure and entertainment. One technical fest—“innotech” and one sports fest--rann. All these are managed well. One more fest was added on our times by the name of “prastuti” for inter college events and fun activities. I've heard that they are gonna combine prastuti and epoque into one.Location and infrastructure: The campus is not very big (18.2 acres) but it's well framed within the limited space too. Actually the problem is that land acquisition is not easy around KIET. Management tried to enhance campus but there are certain restrictions so the college develops within the limited space than expanding. The location is on outer of Ghaziabad, near Murad Nagar area. The Hostel Rooms are big and spacious and you won’t have any troubles adjusting to them. I have heard that the new hostels are even better with new furniture, air conditioning (with higher prices), wall papers and flooring. Soon, the old hostels will also be air-conditioned, this is what I have heard since the students have been demanding for it. The food quality is average. The problem is oily food and repetitive menu which adds boredom to the taste. But, that's what hostel Life is like. The new hostels have a better menu and taste (again, this is what I have heard from my juniors). You will get local amenities nearby very easily. There is a market and a lot of eateries around the college. But if you wanna hang out for a movie or some mall or branded shopping then you will need to travel to RDC area (around 12–15km) which is reachable by both auto or bus. The bus directly connects to Anand vihar and vaishali metro station as well so you can plan your weekend outings to Delhi. Location is actually near a lower developed area but it doesn't affect the inside campus life. You will find a few restaurants nearby the college itself if you want to fulfill your craving for outdoor food. We had Aggarwal Restaurant, Pakwan, Chaap joint, Pizza zones around the college and some not so hygienic non veg joints. You can explore that on your own.Sports: Almost all the sports are available in general. A football field, cricket field, basketball court, lawn tennis, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, pool table and a well equipped gymnasium. All these are free for hostellers and are actually very well maintained too. Though it doesn't have a swimming pool and regular training coaches for these sports but it's good enough for recreation and fitness. I'll go for full marks with this one. Not everyone is involved in regular sports but I suggest that you should be a part of it. You have paid for it and moreover physical fitness should be a priority alongwith learning. Try to be as involved as you can into sports regularly. It helps you to bond with seniors, other branch people as well.Cafeteria: One of the best cafeteria in any college of NCR. It was renovated recently (2016) and we were really impressed by the makover! An air-conditioned ambiance with a food menu ranging from parathas to sandwiches, south indian to Chinese, tea to juices and lunch to junk. You'll spend hours waiting for your crush to pass by the cafeteria and offer her/him the likings of the menu or maybe just chill around with your friends. When you are sick of mess food, you can rely on the masala dosa of the cafeteria. It's a pure vegetarian cafe though.TBI: (Technology Business Incubator): This place has the base for entrepreneurship in KIET. It is available in few colleges only. It functions really well. Any idea for a startup or a group can be implemented here with support of TBI members. To some extent it receives government grants too. So if anyone with such interest/hobby can definitely contact TBI team. Many companies and groups are functional within it. The administration tries to support for start up innovations but be sure that you are yourself firm and dedicated to opt for such plans. You should have a plan of action in advance and then proceed to the administration.Associations and workshops: Many student clubs working on social causes, drama, dance and technical stuff like electronics, mechanical and electrical are present. SAE group for mechanical students is one of the most prominent one. They participate in annual events related to car designing and vehicle modelling. Recently they received a prestigious honor for securing a position in a competition conducted by NASA for engineering students all over the globe. Dinobots for EC/EE students, is also reaching heights. They work on robotics and embedded system projects for various events. Recently they were among the top 2 ranks of Robocon-India where they competed with top colleges of the nation. E-Cell handles the college website for various events and updates. They manage all the web portal and application related activities for the college. Famgrid, Uddeshya, Creative-Cell, and many more. Recently (in 2020), ECE department has opened a Space Technology Cell in collaboration with ISRO and they are working on projects related to satellite technology. They are planning to enter into the league of colleges who put their satellites into the orbit. I don’t have exact details but this is something really fascinating. Some are technical clubs while others working for cultural and social activities like dance, music, managing events, teaching poor students, helping in old age homes etc. To be a part of either of them, you need to apply for getting selected. It is advisable that you join some workshop and excel on the practical skills of your field too. Grades along with the work experience of these workshops can be an added advantage to your CV. And moreover you explore a lot of other aspects of college life apart from academics and placements as well.Department Activities: There are many departmental events organized from time to time including seminars, literary fests, some kind of paid skill development program or workshop of your field.Eateries: you will get an amul parlor, a cafe named big treat, nescafe, and a coca cola owned food point for some junk snacks, maggi and beverages throughout the night in the campus. The Maggi during winters is a bliss. Nescafe is sometimes open and sometimes it doesn't open up for months while coca cola point is only open during day time.EDIT POINTS (after 2018):Mercedez Benz Diploma: College offers a one year intensive paid course for practical learning in the field of mechatronics. The projects and the diploma is associated with Mercedez Benz.Innovation Center: A whole building equipped with 3D printerns, GPU computers, CNC machines etc have been established for students. Well, I am not sure that how much students are allowed to use them. You can explore that on your own. It also encourages students to offer innovations and learning in machine learning, deep learning, advanced circuit designing etc.Skill Development Classes: From first year itself, students can enroll in learning skills related to AI, Blockchain, Web Development, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, IoT etc. By paying some extra fees, there are on campus classes for German, French and Japanese and also classes related to GRE, GMAT etc. from Jamboree education. People from international universities visit regularly to assist students.Having said all this, if you come to KIET you will enjoy the life over here. You may get frustrated with some professors who have lesser knowledge and are unable to teach but in the end it's all sorted out. Definitely if you get better colleges, then go for it, but if not then the campus life is not gloomy, it's very colorful in KIET.The major plus point is that the college is trying to introduce diverse opportunities and learning experience by various tie-ups and extra programs. How much you gain out of it, totally depends on how much you invest time in your development. You can either make use of these platforms and excel or just pass with a stamp of engineering on your degree. There will be students of every kind. Make a choice on what you want to become. To sum it up: KIET is a good college with bright minds (again, don’t compare with IITs/NITs and all). It is trying to take off and soon it might make even better impacts because the management and the students are constantly endeavoring towards improvement. The only downside which I feel is a lack of motivation from the professors towards the students. They don't get beyond classroom studies. Focus will be on study and give exam. On the contrary, some professors are really good at teaching and motivating for your growth in terms of learning new things. Despite so many facilities in the campus, only a few students opt for utilising them while others just spend their time in vain. Therefore, individual push will definitely matter a lot.You might feel the lack of IIT/NIT infrastructure but towards the end it will be good. You will not lose anything after joining KIET. There will always be good takeaways for sure. Whatever you do in your 4 years of KIET will decide your future. If you utilize the resources judicially you will do good. If you continue to crib about the absence of certain things, then you'll lose your time only.Keep in mind, that a good percentage always matter. Try to stay above 75–80%+. If you are above 80, you will be among the elite of your branch. It's not mandatory but sometimes during placements or for higher studies it plays a role. Don't risk on your percentage.Along with percentage, get involved in as many workshops or PROJECTS you can to have a good CV and knowledge with a good personality. For the first three years do all this stuff, and for last year focus totally on gate/cat/IAS/placement or any other exam, if you want to. Leave all the workshops at that time but till third year, do get involved in as many learning opportunities and workshops as you can.The one who works, prospers, and the one who doesn't, suffers. That's my review of KIET…!!
