If you left a survey for burglars to fill out the next time they ransacked your home, how would they rate the experience?

What is something a guest in your house did that made your jaw drop? How did you react?
I had a friend from high school come to visit me for a week after I moved to the MD/DC area from TX. She brought her son with her who was around 10/11 years old. It was an ok visit for the most part. I fed them daily, let them borrow my car to sightsee daily, took them around myself as well. Well, after my husband took them to the airport when the visit was over I went into my sons bedroom ( they stayed in his room the entire week) so I could change the sheets & clean up. I noticed a smell that was really gross near the bed. I took off the sheets & noticed a stain on the bed that was so large it covered the entire width of the full size mattress! It was PEE! She or her kid, or both of them had been pissing (a full bladders worth) what looked like every single night for a week on my little boys NEW mattress. It was ruined obviously, but I didn’t have the money to buy a new one. Why wouldn’t she of brought a plastic cover & put it on the mattress ( she had to know this was gong to happen ahead of time), so as to not RUIN her friends property. Put some Depends on that huge kid of hers! Something! Anything! How gross that they laid in that perpetually wet, piss filled bed! She never said a word to me after the fact, or offered to replace the mattress. I was so disgusted by her I never called her again. Years later she sent me a “ friend request” on FB….I blocked her. The Unmitigated gaul of it all!
What was the strangest thing that happened to you as a foreigner in Japan?
Well, this happened to me within the first 3 months of my stay in Japan. I and my future roommate had purchased some second hand household appliances from a seller here in Tokyo, as were planning to move in together. We wanted to ship all the appliances and furniture directly to our new house on the day of our move in. But due to the unavailability of the seller, we had to call the items a day before our move in. This got me really worried, because the transportation cost is expensive here and would have been a real pain in the a@# if we were to ship it to our current place and then ship it again to our new house location. This situation left us perplexed and we booked the delivery not knowing where to store the items due to the conflict between the two occasions. With no choice left we went ahead and requested some help from our future neighbours. We talked to one of our neighbours explaining them our situation and requested them to store our objects in their house for a night and that we would pick them up the very next day. Although it was hard to explain them due to language barrier, they happily agreed. On the eve of delivery, while loading the items in their house, the lady seemed uncomfortable stuffing the huge appliances like fridge and washing machine inside, considering the small size of the houses here in Japan. Noticing the discomfort, we came arbitrated to keep the huge items outside the house under the building's shed. She assured us the security of the items and that we will find them tomorrow in the exact same condition as now. She even offered some plastic sheets to cover the appliances as there was a probability of rain that night. At last she wrote a note in Japanese on behalf of me, which translated to allow to keep those objects until 22nd December, which was the next day.We came the next morning only to find our items in exact same condition, and in fact covered with more plastic sheets which were not used earlier. This really amazed us. Later we came to know that the extra sheets were put by other neighbours who read the note and added extra protection due to rain forecast out of concern. Although it didn't rain the previous night, but I experienced the real "omotenashi" culture of Japanese people which is more than genuine kindness towards the visitors. It’s also a sharp eye for detail, awareness for individual needs, and the effort to always go the extra mile. This type of kindness and hospitality is an integral part of what Japanese means.18 months down, we still meet our dearest neighbour and hold occasional Hanami(The Japanese custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers).
