PDF Editor FAQ
Should the Constitution be amended to require Senate-approved members of the executive branch to appear before House or Senate when called to do so?
That’s a very big, solid, “NO” from me.To give Congress the power to “call on the carpet” members of the Executive Branch would transform its appointment and oversight authority into a sort of “co-managerial” authority alongside the President. It would make Executive officers partially beholden to the Legislative Branch. We need far more strict Separation of Powers, not less.Original Question:“Should the Constitution be amended to require Senate-approved members of the Executive Branch to appear before House or Senate when called to do so?”
How was it being a banker during the 1978 demonetization drive in India?
How was it being a banker during the 1978 demonetization drive in India?[Was there large scale panic among the public since there weren't many other alternatives in a cash based economy at the time?]RTA. Thanks Doctor Raghuraj HegdePersonally speaking, in January 1978, I was working as a clerk, with just over three years of experience, in a big branch of my Bank in Chennai. I was working in what is called “Accounts department” which was almost entirely segregated from the “Cash department” and therefore never even entered the cash cabin of the branch or handled any cash transactions. So at a personal level, this had no practical impact on my experience as a Bank employee.(In fact most of us have never even seen any of these notes in our life around that time)But even on a macro economic scale, I do not remember any big fuss or turmoil among the general public, and probably a very large percentage of the population did not even know anything about this news. I think this must have been because of the following major reasons.> The currency notes demonetized on that occasion were INR 10000, 5000, and 1000. In those days these were really really very BIG amounts, even for a rich person, unless he was a very big businessman or a top level politician [;-)] The monthly emoluments of people very high up in official hierarchy were in the range of a few thousands, (I remember mine was not even thousand) and most of the Matrimonial Ads of those times used to scream pompously about the “four figure salary” of the bride/groom, though this may mean anything between rupee 1000 to 9999. So, one can clearly see that in such an economic climate why there was not any major impact on the common people of the day.> There were no internet, social media, Facebook, Twitter,Whatsapp, or Quora in those days. (What a huge relief it should have been compared to today!) Coming to think of it, there were not even any Television sets in Indian homes of the day, and thus any dissemination of information or discussion on issues were restricted only to the English or vernacular print media, and even the Press(titutes?) in those days were quite restrained and laid back.> The time allotted for the Exchange was only three days then (unlike nearly 5 months now) and exchange also had to be made mostly through only Reserve Bank of India, or the State Bank of India. Thus if the present demonetization drive looks like a pompous and colorful first day first show of a Khan movie, the 1978 was like a drab, black and white Films Division documentary on Assam floods or Bihar famines ;)

My First Uber Ride:Place : MumbaiI along with some of my friends decided to spend the whole night working and partying at the company's office where we all are interns. Although it ended up being an Omegle chat night!!Next morning 7 am : It started raining heavily so we decided to call acab instead of travelling by the local train. We chose Uber because of it's First ride free policy. We checked out all it's swaggy features, believe me after a night-out interns do weird things.Western Exp Highway : We were travelling at a fairly high speed when we saw big branches of a tree, fallen on the road, obstructing the traffic. Now our driver showing disappointment asked us:"Bhaiya apko jaldi nahi hai na?""Brother, you are not in a hurry, right? We said we are not in a hurry.Interns are never in a hurry :P.That guy then did something that won our hearts. He came out of the car and started removing all the branches of the tree that were there on the road in that heavy rainfall. Me Nitesh Vijay and Harshvardhan then went to help him out. A lot of people then stopped their vehicles to praise us.He then said:"Everyone want to be a part of the solution not the problem but very few do.Everyone blames the government for the small things that we are responsible for."We found someone who in his own small way is a part of the solution. Thanks a Lot Sonali Jain for promoting.Didn't Expect such a response. I would like to thank Amith Shetty Anurag User-11473958948675599104 Shyam Jalan Ashish Kumar Yuganshu Sharma Shreeishita Gupta and Prateek R.
