Growing up there was not a good time. I know a lot of people who moved to Chapel Hill, either for school or work, and stayed because they really enjoy it. When I went through elementary school, the Orange county school system was great, by the time my youngest sister (nine years my junior) was coming out of middle school, it was awful. At one point about a decade ago, all of my friends became junkies, I'm not friends with a lot of them anymore because most of them are still junkies, and some of them are dead because they were junkies. I know other people who grew up in Chapel Hill who have had the same experiences. If you want drugs, you can find them just about anywhere (so, yay if you're into popping pills or shooting up?). You wouldn't guess it if you were just to visit and walk the nicely maintained campus area, or drive through neighborhoods where the cheap houses start at $400k, or go to University Mall, which used to be quaint and have a nice little candy shop, and a pet store, but is now filled with over-priced merchandise and in the process of adding a theater where tickets will sell for $16, but Chapel Hill isn't as it appears on the surface. The longer I'm gone, the more I realize just how toxic a place that town was for me. I've not been back since christmas.Carrboro is intertwined with Chapel Hill, and is a nicer place overall.Props to Chapel Hill for at least being more progressive than most of the rest of the state, though.

Firebombing one Republican office in one county in one state benefits the Clinton campaign how? Brute intimidation only works when it’s intimidating—when any Republican worker in any Republican office in any county in any state is made to believe there’s a good chance they’ll be attacked.Bombing one out of many hundreds of offices nationwide doesn’t do that, to put it mildly. The Clinton campaign people—and Clinton herself—would have to all be complete morons to think otherwise.Clinton graduated first in her class at law school at Yale. You may not like her, but stoopid she ain’t. Nor, of course, does she have a track of doing anything of the sort, during her previous two election campaigns. Nor could you accuse her of desperation, since the pollsters give her around an 80% chance of winning the election.Attacks like this make sympathetic martyrs of the victims. So someone would have to be stupid to think such an attack would help the cause of the other party. If/when the attacker(s) is found, I’m sure it will turn out to be a real meathead. Probably—given the locale—a black guy enraged by the blatant racism of Trump and his “basket of deplorables.”So anyone who accuses the Clinton campaign of being behind this would have to be as bereft of common sense as the attacker.The odds of this being a false flag operation orchestrated by the Trump campaign is equally dubious, again because doing it just one time in one place makes it seem unlikely to be a top-down attempt at intimidation, so it wouldn’t have the effect desired of a false flag operation. It looks too idiosyncratic.I’ve gotten accustomed to the Republicans making preposterous accusations about Clinton, so it’s no surprise that GOPers would defy reason to say Clinton was behind this.And of course they are desperate, given a presidential candidate with the maturity of a spoiled 13 year old boy…

There are a few, some of which are only practiced by far left extremists.College campuses suppressing far right speakers. Sure the far right speakers spew horrible and hateful views. But suppressing their right to speak only gives them a louder megaphone.Political correctness at an extreme level. E.g., there are movements at far left schools (I’m looking at you, Oberlin) where people of European descent eating Sushi is deemed “cultural appropriation.”Label shaming. Many of us get shamed if we don’t use the term-of-the-day for certain historically discriminated against classes of people. “Trans-” is now considered offensive (or so I’ve been told). And “African American” is now falling out of favor and we’re supposed to re-embrace “Black.” Changing terms are fine, but don’t shame people who didn’t get whatever memo officially changed it.Well intentioned liberal policies, especially at the local level, can raise taxes and create, however unintentionally, havens for the liberal elite. In my county (Orange County, NC) there are vast tracts of land with aggressively reduced taxes, in order to subsidize agricultural and environmental easements. This yields beautiful stretches of countryside, but coupled with a general hostility to businesses locating in the county, creates a disproportionate tax burden on the residential property owners. This pushed poor people into more affordable areas.Urban liberals who just can’t understand the rural mindset of wanting to be left alone by government. Of course, there are many reasonable protections (or “regulations” as the right calls them) that need to be in place in the rural areas, but to just dismiss the natural rural mindset of opposition as ignorance comes off as elitism.
